In any house or apartment, the kitchen is one of the most important rooms where the family often spends quite a lot of time. Decorating the kitchen in one style or another, choosing furniture, appliances and a chandelier, you should also think about the selection of the necessary things that will help make the room cozy. These are towels, curtains and tablecloths.

Requirements

When choosing textiles for the kitchen, it should be remembered that it should not only serve as an element of decor in the interior, but also be functional and practical. Of course, it will be great if the towels and tablecloth are selected in accordance with the overall design, and their colors and patterns are made in a certain style. However, do not forget that the kitchen is not only a place for cozy family tea parties. All surfaces are exposed to steam during cooking and can be exposed to water droplets, food particles and grease, and textiles are no exception.

Therefore, certain requirements are imposed on such products.

  • The main requirement concerns the quality of the material of manufacture. The fabric should be durable, easy to clean, not lose its properties after repeated washing.
  • The fabric should be absorbent and dry quickly. Natural materials fully possess these qualities. Therefore, it is best if your towels and napkins are made from linen, cotton, or a mixture of both.
  • It should be taken into account that the color scheme of textiles should correspond to the general color design of the room. Products can serve as a beautiful accent or be in the same color scheme with walls and furniture, complementing the interior. However, it is necessary to avoid the complete coincidence of the shades of textiles and walls - the room will become boring and expressionless.
  • Textiles must match the style in order to create a holistic, harmonious perception of the interior.

For example, for a rustic kitchen, a large number of brightly colored products are appropriate, but for high-tech or minimalism this is absolutely inappropriate.

Curtain selection

You must be very careful about the choice of curtains. Designed to protect from prying eyes, they often help to solve another, no less important task: visually expanding a narrow room or enlarging the space, as well as adjusting the window proportions. For kitchen curtains, durable fabrics are suitable, undemanding to care. You can choose both natural materials and artificial ones, specially created for the kitchen.

Modern manufacturers produce them in a fairly wide range. Materials are not afraid of exposure to steam, grease and soot do not accumulate on them for a long time. But, although they remain in their original form for a long time, they may require special care.

Color is also important. If the window is large, then the color of the curtains can be any.

However, it is worth considering which side the window faces. If this is the north side, and there is little light in the room, then dark curtains will make it gloomy and uncomfortable. Conversely, insufficient protection from bright light on the south side will make cooking uncomfortable.

Other accessories

In addition to choosing curtains, attention should be paid to purchasing important components such as tablecloth and towels.

Towels

Towels are an indispensable attribute in any kitchen. Even in the most minimalistic kitchen, you will need them to wipe dishes, dry your hands, and place them under washed glasses and forks.For these purposes, hygroscopic materials are needed. For this reason, many housewives prefer waffle cotton or linen towels.

They, made from environmentally friendly natural fabrics, perfectly absorb moisture, do not harm human health, do not leave lint on the wiped surfaces, have the necessary strength, and are resistant to washing. Today they are not only white: manufacturers produce them in various tones and shades, put on them a variety of patterns and designs, embroidery.

Towels are so beautiful that they are sometimes used as decorative elements, and their functions are shifted to paper roll counterparts.

However, these commonly used items should be comfortable - not too small or too large. Although there are different options on the market, the standard size of a kitchen towel is 70x40 or 60x30 cm. Manufacturers often release them in sets of several. Towels can be of different colors, but are united by a single theme of decors and a common design.

You can also purchase a set that includes a tablecloth, napkins, an apron and other kitchen textiles. Today, bamboo fiber is often used as a natural analogue of flax or cotton.

Towels from it absorb moisture well, do not accumulate foreign odors, which is great for using them in the kitchen, in addition, they are not susceptible to mold or mildew.

Tablecloth

A tablecloth on the kitchen table will create a special atmosphere and add coziness. The choice of tablecloths in modern life is not a difficult task, since their rich assortment is presented in a wide range of sizes, colors, and decors. If the tablecloth is needed not only for performing decorative functions, then it is advisable to pay attention to inexpensive, practical materials that do not wrinkle and are easy to clean. Kitchen products are often specially coated with water-repellent coatings such as Teflon or acrylic.

The kitchen is often used for cooking, so use oilcloth to cover the table. Oilcloth has sufficient strength, perfectly preserves the table surface. The degree of its wear resistance depends on the material of manufacture. Oilcloths are of the following types:

  • cotton;
  • teflon;
  • silicone;
  • oil;
  • polyvinyl chloride.

It is worth remembering that the drawing can be erased from the oilcloth, it can be cut with a knife. However, the affordable price will allow you to change it as needed.
