When the upholstered furniture wore out, our grandmothers found a simple solution - they hid it under a blanket. Today on sale you can find a large assortment of covers for armchairs and other upholstered furniture. These products are selected not only by the size and color of the furniture, but also by the style of the interior.

Covers have become a hot commodity, they are used for various reasons:

  • when they want to hide aged or damaged furniture;
  • want to update a boring interior;
  • there is a need for a certain color of furniture;
  • there is a need to hide it from the encroachments of pets.

For some people, the ideal condition of the furniture is fundamentally important, and they put on covers on the day of purchase.

Let's note two more points for the sake of which it is worth buying these products:

  • furniture in modern covers looks much more spectacular than without them;
  • stains and dirt are easier to remove from the cover than from the upholstery of the chair.

On sale there are products of different sizes, which can be used to cover not only traditional chairs, but also easily pull on rare corner models. In addition, there are covers for the shell chair, as well as for various kinds of bean bag chairs. Covers are selected for models with soft and wooden armrests or for completely plastic products.

Standard

For standard furniture, there are much more possibilities in the selection of covers, you just need to correctly measure the parameters of the chair. According to the features of the cut and the method of fixation, the covers are divided into the following types:

Drawstring

The products are made of inelastic fabrics, they represent a canvas with ribbons, into which the chair is packed. The appearance of the model is formed by strings. Such options are used not only to cover standard chairs, but also for rocking chairs, shells, bags, since the size of the canvas allows you to use furniture of different parameters. Tie covers are suitable for shabby chic, Provence, chalet styles.

Cover-covers

Products in the form of compact separate bedspreads for an armchair and handrails, which do not completely cover the furniture, leaving small openings with a covering visible. Such covers do not completely protect the chair and, as a result, allow it to become dirty.

Stretch

Today, stretch covers are considered the most popular and widespread. These include euro covers made of rubberized material and other options made of very elastic fabrics. In a compressed form, they are small, but as they stretch, they fit tightly on any type of chair, ideally repeating their shape.

Cases with a skirt

They suit the same styles as the models with ties, but differ from them in a beautiful skirt, lowered to the floor. Such products protect new furniture well from dirt and perfectly mask old chairs, creating their updated image.

Corner

Corner chairs without armrests are a rarity in the interior, and removable covers on them are rare. But there is an alternative solution - a dimensionless euro cover created using a special technology - bielastico. The fabric is pierced with thin rubber threads and acquires such elasticity that it can completely repeat the shape of the chair without creating voids between the cover and the furniture. It is capable of stretching and contracting, literally wrapping around the backrests and handrails. Depending on the fabric itself, the elongation can reach 20 to 100%.

To purchase such a cover for a corner chair, you should measure its back and the protrusion adjacent to it, but usually finished products up to 2-2.5 meters long will fit a chair with an angle to either side.

In addition to fabrics created using the bielastico technology, there are other superelastic materials. For example, for non-standard armchairs, free-style covers made of stretching stretch fabric are suitable, where only the dimensions of the back and the ledge should be measured. Corrugated crash fabric fits perfectly on any shape of furniture.

Anyone who decides to use other types of materials should take into account which side the protrusion is on his model - to the left or to the right.

If this fact is ignored, it will be impossible to put the cover on the chair. Corner chairs are non-standard types of furniture and need custom-made covers.

Materials (edit)

Thanks to good air permeability and high elasticity of modern materials, the covers are beautiful, comfortable, with a perfect fit on curly furniture. The voluminous texture and colorful palette can decorate the most inconspicuous armchair, giving it a delightful look. The fabrics are selected harmless, not causing allergic reactions. Eurocovers tend to neutralize the smell of old furniture.

Many types of materials, both dense and elastic, are suitable for the manufacture of covers.

Velveteen

Dense cotton-based fabric is characterized by the presence of ribs on the front side. Thanks to them, the covers have a longitudinal relief texture. The fabric is durable, does not fade or change during the washing process.

Velours

Due to the fleecy surface, it is sometimes confused with velvet, but the pile of this fabric is shorter and costs less. Velor is made from synthetic fibers with the addition of cotton and wool. The fabric does not cause allergic reactions, is easy to clean, tactilely soft and pleasant.

Gabardine

The texture of the gabardine has an oblique rib formed by a tight weaving of woolen threads, the so-called twill weave. Gabardine covers attract with their texture.

Jacquard

A complex textured fabric with a variety of patterns and amazing shine, consists of weaving threads of various structures: silk, wool, linen, synthetics and cotton. Jacquard is an eye-catching, lightweight, durable and tear-resistant material.

Crash header

The beautiful crinkled structure of the fabric is obtained thanks to the pressing technique. The header is practical, tear-resistant and does not need to be ironed. It contains fibers of silk, wool, linen, cotton and polyester. The fabric can have a matte and glossy thin base, but thanks to the crinkled effect, the case still looks voluminous.

Design

Covers are decorated according to the taste of the owners and based on the style of furnishings. They can be decorated with bows, lace, zippers, buttons, rhinestones, beads. But sometimes the cover itself becomes a decor in the interior, for example, a product with a 3D image or with a mother-of-pearl sheen visually enlarges the chair and makes it an accent among other types of furniture.

To support the design of the room, it is necessary to choose stylized covers for upholstered furniture.

Provence

French country-style coverings should be whitewashed like faded textiles from grandma's chests. They can have even pastel colors or a delicate floral print. Provence loves ruffles, lace, bows and other decorations.

Minimalism

For minimalism, simple covers with an even texture, completely repeating the shape of the chair, are suitable. They cover all the details of upholstered furniture in such a way that you don't immediately understand the presence of the cover itself.

Minimalism

The armchair and its protective covering in this style are extremely simple and do not have much decor. Rough fabric of red or brick color goes well with brickwork, which is usually introduced into such interiors. The only decoration can be considered large zippers, with the help of which the product is removed or put on a chair.

Baroque

The baroque armchairs themselves are decorated and pretentious, have a complex shape and are decorated with carvings. Putting on them the usual cover means to hide all the beauty that they are trying to convey. Therefore, for armchairs in the Baroque style, overhead small bedspreads are sewn from expensive fabrics, decorated with buboes, rhinestones and other glitter.

Classicism

A classic-style case should look rich, but restrained, without ostentatious beauty. Often, during interior decoration, they resort to using identical textiles on covers, curtains or bedspreads.

Pop Art

The owners often do beautiful and variegated coverings for pop art with their own hands.

Manufacturers

In the domestic market covers for armchairs and sofas from Italian, Spanish and Turkish manufacturers are presented.

  • Ga. i. Co - a famous Italian factory that specializes in the production of exclusive covers for upholstered furniture. The factory is constantly modernizing its equipment and updating the design of its models.
  • Belmarti - a Spanish factory specializing in the production of covers for all types of furniture. The goods of this manufacturer have been entering the Russian market over the past five years. They are actively gaining popularity due to their excellent quality, convenience and variety of products.
  • Karna - a company from Turkey. Produces stretch wraps made of corrugated fabrics with a honeycomb-like texture. Thanks to the tension, they wrap around chairs of different sizes. The color palette is varied, but has a monochromatic focus.
  • Arya - a Turkish factory for sewing stretch covers from reaper fabric. Produces products from both cotton and synthetic versions of different colors.

How to put it on correctly?

Euro or any other elastic fabric cover is easy to put on. It is necessary to spread it out on the armchair, then put it on the armrests and backrest, smooth out the folds well, distributing the fabric over the product. To improve the coverage between the back and the seat, you can slip some blankets between them or seal the joint with a roller.

Covers, sewn to order from fabric that does not stretch, are also pre-laid out on the chair, then put on the back and armrests, and gently smoothed.

You should inspect the product from all sides so that the seams sit correctly, and only then fasten or tie the cover.

Beautiful examples

Spectacular covers adorn not only furniture, but also the interior as a whole. You can be convinced of this by looking at the photos of the products.

  • A furniture cover made of denim trousers of different sizes and a table lamp with a denim skirt shade make the interior surprising.
  • Light covers, homely cozy, are presented by a set for an armchair and a tea table.
  • You can decorate your computer chair by sewing a patchwork protection for it.
  • A simple cape helps protect expensive leather furniture from rapid wear and tear.

A cover for an armchair is both functional and decorative; it is able to refresh old furniture, decorate and protect new furniture, and emphasize the style of the interior.
