The choice of finishing materials for walls is not as simple as it might seem. Even true construction professionals cannot always immediately determine which solution is best for a particular case. However, there are general recommendations, rules, which are not recommended to deviate from. If you follow these rules, you can choose a good washable paint, which will prove to be no worse than ceramic tiles, wallpaper, decorative panels.

Peculiarities

Washable wall paint helps you create the color background you want in one or more rooms, while greatly simplifying repairs. All such coatings, after application and drying, can be washed off with a damp cloth, you can even use detergents. Do not use abrasive products as they will leave deep scratches that will be very difficult to get rid of. The only way to deal with such a defect is to re-stain.

Coloring is much easier (when compared to wallpaper), and there will be no need for a systematic update.

Most often, washable paints are recommended for families with small children who love to paint on vertical surfaces and on anything they can reach.

The stained surface of the painted wall is easy to clean, scratches are painted over, and in extreme cases, a complete replacement of the coating will take several hours. In order not to confuse anything and not to distort the color, it is worth remembering the brands and names of colors or save the remaining cans and labels, checks (just in case).

In the kitchen and in other rooms where the air humidity is high, washable paint works better than ordinary dyes. By covering the walls of the bathroom with it, you will reliably protect yourself from condensation. There will be much fewer problems associated with removing grease and grime around the stove.

The advantage of such coloring compositions can also be considered a fairly even layer and high resistance to mechanical abrasion, the action of harmful substances. The chemical composition of washable paints varies.

This paint can be used not only for walls but also for ceilings. It is easy to cover glass and non-woven wallpaper, concrete and brick, wood and plasterboard surfaces with it.

Varieties

According to certain characteristics, oil paints can also be attributed to this type - however, their fire hazard, the presence of a strong unpleasant odor, toxicity and a long drying time make this option impractical. Few people already use such coatings in general, they are superseded by materials that are more convenient to use.

Acrylic interior paint is recommended for living rooms and bedrooms, it can also be used in the nursery without any fear. The initial components are resins of the same name, which provide excellent elasticity of the created coating. It can be applied to wood surfaces. This paint can mask minor imperfections. Periodic wet cleaning of such surfaces is necessary, washing with not very active detergents (up to 3 thousand cycles).

Latex paint can be used when increased durability is required. Most often, such coatings are needed where a very powerful load is created: on a staircase, in a business center or an apartment building, in school and hospital corridors that need to be constantly washed.

In an apartment, latex paint can be recommended for finishing kitchen walls. It will then be possible to wash the surfaces even with the use of brushes with soft bristles - such a high resistance of such coatings to mechanical stress. In the bathroom and other areas with high humidity, the advantage of latex-based coatings is the minimum risk of fungus.

For interior decoration, you can also use water-based paints (only in dry rooms), water-dispersion paints. Silicone formulations are vapor permeable, not just water repellent. Polyvinyl acetate mixtures themselves dissolve in water, so there is no question of any resistance in this case.

Latex formulations, which surpass all other options in terms of practical characteristics, are significantly more expensive. Consider this and decide if you really want the benefits of these materials.

Matt paint (as well as semi-matt, glossy) can be created on any chemical basis. You need to select such materials, focusing on your own taste and on the interior design in general.

However, remember: if you have to constantly wash certain parts of the walls, then even the most persistent dye will change its appearance over time. The difference will be noticeable, which will negatively affect the interior.

Various brands

Having familiarized yourself with the possibilities of washable paints in general, it is now worthwhile to figure out what they are capable of, what the materials are intended for, which belong to certain varieties produced by specific manufacturers. Since it is not possible to get to know all the manufacturers of construction paint on the market, you can limit yourself to those companies that are leading in the rating and are highly valued by experts.

Acrylic compounds from the brand Caparol designed to paint various surfaces for interior work. They are characterized by a high drying rate. Products and services Sadolin bindo (latex-based) is useful for painting plastered, concrete or masonry walls. It can also be used for gypsum boards and can also be applied to wallpaper.

Materials (edit) Kolorit can be used for different surfaces: both during the initial painting and when correcting the shortcomings of the existing coating. Compositions Eskaro more resistant to abrasion, but at the same time they cannot be used where there may be contact with water.

Work process

Washable paint (like regular paint) should only be applied to perfectly flat surfaces. A water-dispersion primer helps to save some of the material, which also helps to improve the surfaces. When the walls are assembled from gypsum plasterboard, it is required to close all joints with putty and bring the surface to a perfectly even state.

Areas affected by fungi must be impregnated with special agents before applying the primer, and the remains are removed mechanically. In case of a very severe infection, treatment is sometimes carried out repeatedly.

So that quick-drying washable paint shows all its advantages, store it only at positive temperatures, and in case of freezing, keep it in the room where the work will be carried out (at least 24 hours). Stir the contents of the jar thoroughly. The paint for the first layer is diluted by 5 or 10% with clean water, for the second one cannot be diluted. Provide ventilation for the room to be painted.

It usually takes about 90 minutes for the first coat to dry at normal temperature and optimum humidity, but you will benefit by waiting a little longer. This will help the paint to lie better, to form a more durable coating that looks as attractive as possible. Safety measures for staining are the use of rubber gloves, immediate removal of all stains on the skin. The use of respirators is quite effective in preventing vapor poisoning.

Color solutions

It is possible to determine which washable paint is the best only in a specific case, but the selection of color is subject to fairly strict rules. Bright reds, oranges, greens and some other shades do not provide high coverage. The first layer should be lighter, then it is already covered twice with paint of the required color.

You can vary the shades by changing the roughness of the coating. The color is also influenced by the absorbency of a particular surface and the characteristics of the lighting in the room. Consider all these factors to get exactly the result you expect.

Selection Tips

It can be very useful to be guided by the reviews of other consumers, but you should not be guided only by them. Otherwise, you are unlikely to make a truly informed choice. When contacting a store, always ask for official certificates and other accompanying papers, and in case of refusal, do not have anything to do with such a store.

Buy neither the most expensive (the price is almost always overpriced) nor the cheapest paints and varnishes. Simple white paint is found in the can. The necessary shades are given by the colors, the tubes with which should be purchased additionally.

If you decide to paint with a brush, you must choose a paint with a viscosity index of 40 to 45. When using a spray gun, these numbers must be halved. For kitchens, it is recommended to use formulations with a spreading rate of 6 to 8 sq. m per liter (in this case, there must be an amendment that takes into account the constant overestimation of the real hiding power by all manufacturers and sellers).

Resistance to water at room temperature must be at least 24 hours. Good paint has a light fastness of at least 95%. Abrasion indicators - from 60 to 70 micrometers.

Since not everything is written directly on the bank, you should be guided by references to compliance with GOST. Pay more attention to reading reviews about the functionality of the paint. By following these simple rules, you can choose the most suitable washable paint and apply it in the most effective way, ensure the aesthetics of the surface and keep it for a long time.

Color matching is no different from the same procedure for non-washable formulations. Think about your personal taste and the overall design of the space.

Taking into account the recommendations of experts, you can easily choose the option that will be ideal for you. Remember to give preference to paints and varnishes from reliable and trusted manufacturers. So you can purchase a coloring composition that will not disappoint in terms of quality and will last as long as possible.
