A brick brazier is a special brazier for cooking barbecue, built of bricks. A solid brick brazier is often more functional and is used as a grill and barbecue, often other dishes are prepared on it, they even just heat up food. It is also an interesting art object on a suburban area. It is pleasant to gather around such a building in a large company.

How to choose a seat?

  • Do not forget that this structure is an object of increased fire hazard. It should not be located next to a house, wooden or other flammable outbuildings.
  • The building should not be too far from the resting place. Ideal - near the gazebo or near the summer kitchen. You can put a wide canopy, which will not only protect the brick brazier from precipitation, but also cover a couple of benches and a table.
  • Be sure to equip the site. There should not be flower beds or beds nearby, since the grass will simply dry out from the high temperature. You should think about a convenient approach, or better several. Toilet and waste containers should not be located nearby.
  • If the wind is constantly blowing in one direction, make sure that smoke does not enter the windows of residential buildings.

What do you need for construction?

The best building material is fireclay brick (stove). It can withstand large temperature fluctuations and does not deteriorate. Use clay with sand as a mortar for masonry. But it requires pre-soaking.

For an outdoor brick barbecue, you will need a good base, which means you will need building material for the foundation (cement, sand, rubble stone, plywood or formwork boards, reinforcement, stones and crushed stone).

You will also need metal corners, grilles, latches, an iron sheet. If you plan to make niches and a work area, then you will need a stone countertop, the doors can be made of wood or metal.

Of the tools required:

  • shovel;
  • Master OK;
  • level;
  • buckets for solutions;
  • concrete mixer or trough;
  • Circular Saw.

A project is definitely being developed or a ready-made one is taken. It is not only convenient to carry out work on it, but also to calculate the required amount of materials. A small supply never hurts, but large surpluses are useless.

Pouring the foundation

A stationary brick brazier requires a foundation:

  • It is necessary to dig a hole according to the dimensions of the project.
  • Lay out the bottom of the pit with rubble with rubble, formwork is installed (it is better to moisten it).
  • Next, the pit is poured with a concrete mixture of cement and sand in a ratio of 1: 3, but with layers and laying of a reinforcing mesh. Under no circumstances should the fittings lie at the bottom of the pit. If the pit is small and the walls are flat, then no formwork is needed.
  • From above, the foundation is covered with roofing material or an ordinary film.
  • When the weather is hot, it is recommended to sometimes sprinkle the base with water for even drying. It will take 1-2 weeks for the concrete to set and dry. Brick laying is carried out only after the foundation has completely solidified.
  • During this time, you can prepare a clay solution. It is necessary to soak the clay in a tub for a week, stirring occasionally and adding water if necessary. Then add sand. A good solution resembles thick sour cream in consistency, it should be easy to handle and not spread.
  • It is easy to check the quality of the solution. To do this, mix a small amount of clay with dry sand.Roll it into a rope with a diameter of 1 cm. It should not lose shape, crack or spread.

Bricklaying

The day before laying, the brick is recommended to be poured with water or dipped into it for 20-30 seconds immediately before laying. This will provide better grip and the material itself will not pick up moisture from the clay.

The order of the brick brazier is shown in the following figure. If you want to draw the order yourself, then it is most convenient to do this on a piece of paper in a cage.

brazier ordering

The easiest way to masonry for a barbecue is made of bricks - each row is shifted by half a brick in one direction or the other. Begin laying the basement from the corners to the center along the pre-marked lines. Every 3 rows, check with a level and a plumb line, and also lay a reinforcing mesh.

The first row of masonry, like the second, is made solid. The plinth can have different heights, depending on the project, and several compartments in which it is convenient to store firewood, charcoal, some utensils, etc.

Next, we go to the laying of the firebox (central part).

For the brazier, you can use a pre-cast concrete base with reinforcement or lay it out of bricks.

Brazier

If the firebox is planned to be arched, then a circle is used. A gap of 1 cm is left between the bricks. It is best to use chips for this. This will distribute the bricks evenly. Only after that, the space is sprayed with water and filled with a solution. The kruzhalo is left for 1-2 days.

Brazier made of bricks with a circle

From above, the firebox is covered with a reinforced concrete beam or an iron corner. One more row of bricks is laid out on the jumper from above.

It is recommended to leave small gaps when laying, this will allow air to penetrate and the combustion will be better.

If you plan to use a brick grill as a barbecue, then you need to think in advance about the location of the grill. For this, small protrusions are made. The lattice itself is placed on the reinforcement rods embedded in the walls of the building. Several protrusions can be made to be able to position the grille at different levels.

Next, wind walls are laid and a smoke collector is made. The pipe is attached to support columns and gradually tapers. This is the simplest design. And to protect it from rainfall, a metal visor is installed above it.

In simple schemes of brick braziers, the pipe may be absent altogether, as well as wind walls.

Finishing and canopy

In order for the building to serve as long as possible, it is necessary to build a canopy.

He might be:

  • general and cover the entire recreation area;
  • be directly above the barbecue.

For this, concrete bases are made under the canopy posts or fixed to the plinth. Supports can be metal or wooden. In the latter case, according to fire safety rules, they must be at least 16 cm away from the structure and treated with special antiseptics.

Canopy on the grill

The roof for the canopy is made of absolutely any material. But if it is combined with the roof of the house and other outbuildings, then the brick brazier will harmoniously fit into the overall landscape.

The structure can be left as it is, only slightly passing through the grinder. Can be coated with special paints for brick ovens. The decorative stone trim looks interesting. You can also use special plaster.

Also, use various decorative elements not only on the grill itself, but also on the doors of built-in wardrobes, shelves, etc.

Projects, diagrams and drawings

There are many ready-made projects of brick braziers, varying in the level of complexity of execution, costs and decorative options. You can develop your own drawing based on existing diagrams.

We present a brazier scheme, according to which it is easy to build a brazier out of bricks with your own hands.

Brick barbecue scheme

Typically, the height from the ground to the brazier is defined as the distance from the hand to the floor.If the owner is tall, then the firebox will be high enough. The width of the brazier does not exceed 30 cm, otherwise the standard skewer will simply fall into it. In length, most often it does not exceed 1 m, per 10 skewers.

You can build a brick brazier with your own hands according to the following drawing.

The easiest option

The simplest brick brazier has only a base and a brazier, sometimes projections for the grate. It is not difficult to lay, it does not require a little space and materials. This will be an excellent option for a barbecue for a small company or a family of 4 people.

Simple brick brazier

If you plan to build a solid structure that could be used all year round, then a stationary brick barbecue is placed, supplemented with wind walls and a chimney.
