Indoor plants are present in almost every home, creating coziness and decorating everyday life with pleasant greenery and colorful flowering. Timely watering is an important prerequisite for healthy plant growth. But how difficult it is to achieve the desired effect if the owners have to leave the house for a long time or, in the cycle of modern life, remember in time to water the flowers. So that watering indoor plants would not create problems, a flower pot with automatic watering was invented in Denmark.

What it is?

A pot with auto-irrigation is a decorative flowerpot into which a planting container is inserted. There is a free space between the bottom of the inner and outer containers, where water for irrigation and liquid fertilizers is poured. Watering is done through a special water conduit. A special float is used to control the water level. Moisture enters the plant roots through the drainage holes in the inner pot. Depending on the volume of the storage tank and the needs of the plant itself, moisture is sufficient for a period from several days to 2-3 months.

Instructions for use

While the auto watering pots are easy to use, there are several rules for more efficient work of the flowerpot.

  • When planting a plant in a pot, the first time you need to water it over the ground. This is necessary in order for the soil to settle, and the flower to sprout roots into the ground. With the right pot, it will take several days. But if the pot is too big for the plant, then they begin to use auto-irrigation after three months, there will be no point earlier, since the roots will not reach the moisture.
  • Water is poured into the storage tank up to the Max mark on the float.
  • The water in the tank will be consumed depending on the volume of the pot, on the needs of the plant and the development of the root system.
  • When the float drops to the minimum mark, you should not immediately add water. Let the residual moisture be used up and the soil in the pot dries out a little. You can determine the dryness of the soil by using a moisture indicator or using a dry wooden stick. If the soil inside is damp, then a dry stick stuck in a flower pot will get wet. The rate of drying of soil depends on the volume of the container and exposure to heat and light.
  • If the water in the tank is consumed for a very long time, then in order to prevent stagnation and decay, you need to pour half the norm.
  • All plants are unique and should be watered according to their needs. Then they will delight others for a long time with bright greenery and lush flowering.

And self-irrigated pots can save you time and effort by making it easier to care for your plants.

History of creation

Among the variety of planters with automatic irrigation systems, the Lechuza flowerpots produced by the Brandstätter Group, located in Dietenhofen, Germany, are well known. In 1998, the head of an old toy company, Horst Brandstätter, needed a flowerpot that would suit his aesthetic preferences. Among the proposed products, he could not find anything suitable and as a result came up with his own version of a flower pot with automatic watering and suitable for use in the house and on the street.

The smart pot created is capable of professional plant care and is an elegant interior decoration. For this combination of qualities, the line of flower pots with a built-in automatic irrigation system was named Lechuza, which means "owl" in Spanish. And already in 2000, the production of new flowerpots was launched on an industrial scale. Now Lechuza pots are elite products and are used at home, in the office and on the street. The wise and beautiful flower pot has earned the recognition of flower growers all over the world.

Specifications

For the production of Lechuza pots, a special porous plastic was developed, resembling ceramic in structure, only it is much lighter, more practical and stronger. It can easily withstand temperature extremes outside and is resistant to fading. The irrigation system for the pots is almost the same, but the Lechuza planter has a special soil moisture indicator, suggesting the need for watering. The planting tank contains the Lechuza Pon substrate specially designed for these flowerpots, which creates a drainage layer and contains nutrients and fertilizers.

When using this type of flowerpot outdoors, there is a danger of overflow during rains. The developers of the "smart" Lechuza pot made a drainage hole in the bottom of the outer container with a screw plug, which is removed when the flowerpot is on the street.

Most Lechuza planters are interchangeable, making it easy to change the decorative containerby simply rearranging the flower in the planting container from one planter to another. To facilitate this process, manufacturers have come up with retractable handles, and carrying even heavy plants will not be difficult. It is even easier to move the outer container, the size of the plant will not create problems, since the flowerpots are equipped with special platforms with wheels.

Smart flowerpots models

The developers have created many models of planters with exquisite designs to suit any style. The richness of textures and colors is highly appreciated by flower growers, giving preference to this brand. For lovers of mini-gardens in one flowerpot, the company has developed a beautiful model of the Cascada and Cascadino flowerpot. The convenient shape allows you to place up to 13 plants in one flowerpot. Having assembled a column of two or three containers, you can get a whole garden or a vertical berry plant, which will take a place with a diameter of 60 cm.If there is not enough space on the floor, then a single Cascadino planter can be successfully combined with a special suspension, and then a small garden can be placed in a convenient place at the level eye.

For balconies and vertical landscaping, the Balconera and Nido series hanging planters are suitable. The round Nido planter with stainless steel hanging mount can hold up to 15 kg, and the flat, flat bottom allows the planter to be used as a tabletop pot. The Balconera planter is specially designed for balconies. The narrow drawers are attached to the wall or balcony railing using specially designed holders and fasteners that take into account the particular features of the balcony railing.

Fashion collections

Developers of "smart" flowerpots are closely following fashion trends in design and create new collections of pots that will become a highlight of the modern interior. Stylish collection Glossy and Glossy Kiss are the trend of the upcoming season. The elegant lacquered sides of the Cube Glossy planter will look original with flowers or herbs, and the Cube Glossy Kiss planters in cream, cherry and pale pink, varnished, will decorate a young girl's room.

Another trend of the season is the “green wall”. Ampel plants, beautifully arranged on a vertical surface, will liven up empty spaces, and the Green Wall Home Kit Glossy will help you with this.
