Subtleties of connecting a gas hob

Gas kitchen equipment, despite all the incidents with it, remains popular. If only because it is easier to provide cooking from bottled gas than from an electric generator (this is important in case of interruptions). But any equipment of this kind must be connected according to the rules - and this also applies to hobs.

Peculiarities

First of all, it should be said about the "golden rule" of installing gas appliances in the house. It sounds the same as in medicine: do no harm. In this case, it is interpreted as follows: there is no confidence in success, which means that you need to entrust the matter to professionals. Connecting a gas hob only seems to be a simple matter. In reality, however, you will have to make a lot of efforts, and for a start, you will have to study the regulations and learn the requirements specified there.

How to proceed?

Any of the steps below are at your own risk. The site administration is not responsible for any negative consequences associated with such an installation. For work you will need:

  • jigsaw (can be replaced with a circular saw);
  • FUM tape;
  • adjustable wrenches;
  • toilet soap solution.

To properly connect the hob, you first need to choose an installation location. Most often, they try to bring the equipment closer to gas pipelines. But if redevelopment is to be (or possible), bellows corrugated hoses are used. Next, a hole of the required size is prepared in the tabletop with a cutting tool. Remove all dust and remaining sawdust.

It is better, of course, to contact the gas workers immediately in order to suffer as little as possible from mistakes. But if, nevertheless, work on its own continues, the cut line must be treated with sealants. Then moisture will not penetrate between the layers of the countertop.

The next step is to stick a special foam tape around the perimeter of the recess. It is either taken from the delivery kit or purchased separately in specialized gas equipment stores.

Attention: the contact between the panel and this tape should be as tight as possible, because reliability depends on it.

Next, you need to connect one of the ends of the flexible hose to the main pipe or to the cylinder. The opposite end is connected to the inlet of the hob. The required opening is located at the bottom of the household appliance.

That's why when connecting the gas hoses to the built-in model, open the doors and remove the shelves on the appropriate cabinet. The hose is screwed on tightly, it must be sealed with FUM tape. Next, the valve is scrolled to the "fully open" position. The burners do not light up.

It is necessary to cover all joints with soapy water. Normally, no bubbles should appear. But suppose the foam still appears. Then it is necessary to tighten the nut again in the problem area. Then check it again with foam. The procedure is repeated until even small gas bubbles stop appearing.

But you cannot clamp the nuts all the way. Excessive force is especially dangerous when using paronite gaskets. Such gaskets, despite their fragility, can completely replace the FUM tape. But the installation has not yet been completed.

Most standard kits include two types of jets. The one with a thicker hole is for main gas.The one with the smaller inlet - for connecting to cylinders. It is always the nozzle for joining with the gas pipeline that is installed by default. If there is a need to change it, the keys included in the kit are also used.

Gas panels with electric ignition will need to be connected to the mains. You need to put an outlet near the household appliance. Its load capacity is determined very carefully. Ideally, not only the maximum current consumption should flow freely through this outlet, it should provide a margin of somewhere around 20% in power. The hobs are always mounted in thick worktops (at least 3.8 cm wood layer).

If you try to install the panel on a thin base, the system may fail suddenly. According to standard rules, electric ignition hobs are installed using any hoses other than those with a metal sheath. As good as these hoses are, they can cause a fire and gas explosion if a short circuit occurs.

Recommendation: before starting all work, you must carefully study the panel diagram. And draw up another diagram on your own - this time describing the entire connection.

Additional nuances and requirements

The importance of hose selection should not be underestimated. When they buy it, they must inspect it completely. The slightest deformations are categorically unacceptable.

    Important: it is always worth checking for a gas hose certificate. Only as a last resort, you can purchase a rubber sleeve, and then only with the expectation of its prompt replacement.

    When all the components are purchased, you will have to thoroughly check the dimensions. Most often, the package contains a so-called template. Sawing in the countertop is required to be done exactly according to it. But it is advisable to check everything one more time. After all, the slightest mistake can result in serious losses.

    When choosing a place to install a hob in a country house, in an apartment or in a private city house, be sure to pay attention to the following points:

    • constant access of fresh air;
    • lack of contact with water;
    • safe distance to furniture and easily catching fire objects.

    Attention must be paid to the correct cuts. The contours of the mounted devices are drawn on the countertops as accurately as possible. Then all that remains is to cut them with a saw on wood. Important: professionals advise you to step back from the edge a little inward. To process the obtained sections, silicone sealants are most often used (as the most resistant to moisture).

    It is worth considering that it is impossible to cut it with your own hands in synthetic stone countertops. It is advisable to order such a tabletop ready-made, with a hole already made at the factory. But working with chipboard and MDF is quite possible. Masking tape is glued near the markings or even on them to avoid splitting during work. The clamps that hold it will help prevent the cut from falling and breaking the tabletop.

    Before starting work, you should carefully study the household appliances themselves. It is strictly unacceptable to install hobs that are even slightly damaged. It may be dangerous. Gas hoses longer than 3 m are also considered unsafe. Connecting them to each other is also not allowed.

    But the length of the cord for connecting to the outlet can be practically unlimited. What should be strictly avoided is connecting the panel through a tee or other splitter. The plug must be inserted directly into the socket, without "intermediaries". This requirement is related to security.

    Attention: the socket must match the plug in the plug type, and this must be taken care of in advance.

    The hobs may only be moved to other rooms with the permission of the gas authorities. Therefore, if it is impossible to connect the panel directly to the pipe, you should use reliable hoses. It is recommended to pull and attach them before installing the furniture. So it will be more convenient for the installers themselves. Experts advise to connect bellows hoses not directly to gas valves, but through connecting nodes (plumbing fittings and fittings).

    Flax is wound clockwise. When it is screwed on, you must use a gas paste. It is applied in a relatively thin layer.

    Attention: the nuts of the flexible pipes must contain O-rings. You will have to install such nuts with your hands, and then tighten them with gas wrenches. You need to twist it all the way, but without excessive effort.

    People who are concerned about maximum safety often install thermal shut-off valves on gas pipes. They will immediately block the flow of gas if something catches fire, or the temperature rises to more than 80 degrees. Sometimes gas jets are only included in the kit, but not installed during the factory assembly. Then you need to put them in their proper places, guided by the instructions of the technical passport. The plumbing corner, present in the kit by default, is mounted immediately; it does not need to be rolled up, but a pad is required.

    As soon as the hob is installed in the designated place, its borders are immediately leveled. Only then can the clips be tightened. Cut off the protruding parts of the seal with a sharpened knife. At the same time, they carefully monitor so as not to deform the surface of the countertop.

    But it will still be necessary to check the quality of the installation. First, open the gas cock and check if it smells like gas. Of course, this should only be done with open windows and without fire. If everything is all right, they try to light a fire. At the slightest suspicion of a malfunction, turn off the panel, disconnect it and call specialists.

    Is it possible to connect the bellows to the panel through the corner?
