The dimensions and weight of fiberboard sheets are, of course, important characteristics that are of great importance during operation and installation. At the same time, the thickness and length of the slabs can be both standard and non-standard. Let's figure out which option is right for a particular situation.

Why you need to know the dimensions

Fiber boards, which have a denser structure, are also called hardboard. The raw material for the production of boards is waste from wood processing industries, wood. In some cases, waste paper is added. Wood chips are processed, crushed into shavings, then they are ground into fibers, which are then mixed with all the components. And the binder is glue or resin.

This material is suitable for both home renovation and furniture design. Fiberboard has a lower cost than natural wood. Also, its main advantages include moisture resistance and large sheet size. Dense fibreboards have high plasticity and low weight, and their characteristics do not change for a long time even under the influence of water.

During the purchase, it is worth evaluating such parameters of the panels as their density, weight, storage conditions and movement of raw materials. One of the important roles is played by the thickness and area of the fiberboard. There are many types of panels, but there are certain parameters that are important. In addition, a deviation is calculated that can be tolerated when dimensions are higher than the norm, since this affects the working area, the strength of the product, and the amount of waste.

Correctly chosen thickness helps to save money. It is necessary to know the dimensions of the thickness of the sheets so that the material can be used economically and efficiently.

The most popular sizes on sale are 1 to 3 meters long and 1-2 meters wide. It is quite difficult to transport such a structure, but the cost compensates for all the disadvantages. And large slabs are suitable for construction on an industrial scale.

Solid sheets are used to decorate the premises. The area is calculated so that a spare part remains, which is used for cutting. Small pieces can be purchased from special firms or woodworking industries. Economical cutting is carried out using measurements of the room (ceiling, walls and floor).

The next stage is drawing up diagrams and cutting out the material. It is important to correctly calculate the parameters of the room, to purchase the required number of sheets of fiberboard. As a result, the choice becomes the option that will give the most efficient consumption of materials. A material with a small thickness and a large area is most easily deformed. If you need a more flexible group, then you should choose softer fiberboard.

Standard sheet sizes

Plates with a denser structure are called hardboard. Such qualities can be obtained by adding more raw materials, which are pressed under pressure. Fiberboard has large widths and lengths. In addition, the following advantages of raw materials are preserved: minimal thermal conductivity, high sound insulation, no harm to the environment.

Fiberboard is a fairly cheap material when compared with the cost of other materials for 1 m³.

According to their purpose and production characteristics, the boards can be divided into soft, hard, semi-hard and superhard. All slabs are sized according to technical requirements. All types of soft tiles are 300, 270, 250, 180, 160, 122 centimeters long and 170 and 122 centimeters wide. For the M-20 grade, the thickness is 8 and 12 mm, and for the M-12 and M-4 grades - 12, 16 and 25 mm.

Semi-solid sheets have a thickness of 6, 8 and 12 mm. For hard and superhard, the thickness is 0.32, 0.45 and 0.6 cm. The maximum panel area is 610 x 214 cm. The soft type has become the most versatile in the construction industry. Such a panel is used to insulate and soundproof the premises.

So, soft tiles are used for different purposes. For example, creating high quality thermal insulation for rooms and roofs. Mineral wool and polystyrene are used together. This material protects the roof covering from external factors. These slabs improve the acoustics of the room. The material is used to decorate walls made of concrete, wood, brick.

Also, fiberboard sheets can serve as a substrate for the coating. The thickness of the fibreboard ranges from 7 to 12 mm. This type is used for furniture production. For example, this option is suitable for walls and furniture drawers. Another application is underlay for covering the floor surface.

Plywood with a solid structure is suitable for the construction of drawers, walls in furniture, doors in switchboards. The density of such a material is approximately 1000 kg per 1 m3, and the thickness is 4, 5, sometimes it reaches 6 mm. The front part of this slab is ennobled with a synthetic and melanin film.

The surface is glossy and matte, also imitated as a wood or tile coating. You can choose the color for the material according to your own taste. But solid material has different density, durability and front side. Therefore, there are several types of facade:

  • One side is decorative. This format is denoted by the letter T.
  • The side considered to be the obverse is made of thin wood. It is designated T-C.
  • The panel with a high level of moisture resistance has a T-B format.
  • T-SV - designation for panels with moisture resistance and fine composition.
  • With a painted front side - T-P.
  • The painted side has a finely dispersed composition, which is designated as T-SP.
  • Low density sheets - HT.

The superhard panel has a density of about 950 kg per 1 m³. This is a material with a decent level of quality. It is distinguished by considerable simplicity and ease of use. In order to obtain a high density of fiberboard, it is treated with pectol. This type of fiberboard is used in the construction of arches, partition structures and doors.

Also, this tile has a special insulation from electricity, which makes it possible to build it into the doors for the shields.

Superhard panels are easy to handle, as well as to install in a structure. Plates with a decorative side have not only an attractive appearance, but also excellent resistance to moisture. This option wears out much longer than usual. The coating is formed gradually: layers are applied one by one.

Laminated fiberboards are used in both roughing and facing work. On sale, the most popular panels are coated with synthetic resin. This surface coating is stronger and more moisture resistant. Lamination gives a beautiful texture for this material. The price for it varies based on the values of height, length, width. There are several types of laminar fiberboard:

  • Lining is a material with an updated configuration, which consists of interconnected planks, visually similar to a wooden structure.
  • A product made of tiles with a variety of areas. For lovers of custom decor, this option will be ideal.
  • Sheets with a huge selection of colors, fixings and textures.

Basically, the slabs have a thickness of 3 mm to 2.5 cm, but they distinguish their sizes for different groups. The thickest sheets include slabs with low and medium density, and their parameters are divided into categories: 8, 10, 12, 16, 25 mm. For semi-solid slabs, the thickness can be 6, 8 or 12 mm.The hardest types of slabs have a denser structure, and their thickness is 3.2, 6 or 4.5 mm.

Standard panel dimensions are approximately the same size, which depends on the manufacturer. The length range is from 122 to 366 cm, and the width is from 120 to 214 cm. Approved standards can be found in the technical documentation.

In addition to standards, the indicators are set to maximum values. For example, for a soft type of fiberboard, this value corresponds to 5.5 meters, and for a hard version, it is 6 meters.

Sometimes they order models in the form of squares. This material is not in demand among builders of private buildings, but it is used in industrial enterprises.

Density and weight

Fiberboard is made from wood that is ground to grains. Then, under high temperature, the fibers are pressed into a homogeneous raw material. Also, in the formation of tiles, a fire made of flax and waste from reeds helps. The source is crushed into chips and boiled in an alkaline solution. After that, the resulting raw material is pressed under high temperature and high pressure (10-50 kgf per 1 cm). Depending on the level of pressing of wood fiber fabric, several types can be distinguished:

  • Superhard density slabs have a bulk density of 950 kg per 1 m2.
  • Solid panels with a bulk density of at least 850 kg per 1 m2.
  • Semi-solid tiles with a mass of 400 kg per m2.
  • Finishing panels with a mass of 250-350 kg per 1m2.
  • Insulation products weighing up to 250 kg per 1m2.

One of the important characteristics of fiberboard is density, which affects the weight of the product. The minimum density is 800 kg per m³ and the maximum value is 1100 kg per m³. In order to determine how much all construction raw materials weigh, calculate the sum of the volume of the entire batch and multiply the resulting number by the density value. The exact number of density is indicated in the documents. Then the builder will know what kind of transport is worth ordering.

Products with a soft composition and low density have a decorative function. The maximum value is no more than 400 kg per m3. The minimum density value is equal to 100 kg per m3. For panels with an intermediate density value, the minimum number is 600 kg per m3.

How to choose slabs by thickness and length

Fiberboard is a popular raw material in construction work, which is produced on the basis of wood. They are used in various fields, and one of the main advantages is their low cost, which is very economical during construction. In addition, such raw materials will not fail in bad weather conditions and will serve for many years. Correctly selected parameters of the product will bring benefits in the form of heat and sound insulation, and the surface will be transformed into an even coating.

In order to minimize waste in production, it is important to accurately calculate the dimensions of building structures.

It is worth checking the compliance of all documents and stamps - otherwise, you can get a low-quality product, which, of course, will entail quite large financial losses. And before buying, you need to familiarize yourself with the products of several companies at once, then order fiberboard.

The search for raw materials is based on differences in thickness, cost, and dimensions of fibreboard. Strength quality and thickness depend on each other. Therefore, you need to choose depending on the future purpose of the material. Several goals can be distinguished:

  • Porous coated soft tiles are suitable for wall and ceiling cladding. Their thickness is calculated according to the heat engineering capacity. This type is endowed with soundproofing quality. Equip the floor with a subfloor made of a panel with a thickness of 8 to 12 mm, which helps to hide all the unevenness of the floor.
  • The semi-solid version has a thickness of about 12 mm, medium strength, which is suitable for the construction of furniture. It is perfectly used in furniture production, then from which walls and drawers in cabinets are constructed. As for the construction site, such a material is used for the substrate to the floor covering.
  • The solid type of panels has a thickness of about 6 mm, it is a fairly thin material, but very durable, with a non-porous structure. Suitable for facing partitions, ceilings, walls, doors.
  • The super-hard panel has a high density and low thickness. Such a panel will be the choice for cladding work. For example, it can be used for decoration of furniture cladding, front doors, floor covering.

Fiberboard is a material that is distinguished by its low cost and high practicality. To choose the right material, you need to study in detail the technical characteristics, strictly follow the construction and installation technologies. The product is preliminarily inspected for chips, damage, stains, cracks or swelling. Packaging for raw materials must be accurate, contain information about the place of production, company, size, production date and storage conditions.

Besides, the packaging must have a stamp that guarantees compliance with the requirements of technical control... If such data is not available, then it is better to refuse to purchase. Large firms inspire more confidence, and the chances that the necessary information will not be provided is minimized. The main thing is not to forget to first measure the area of the walls, ceiling, floor, after which it will be easy to choose the desired product.
