A fundamentally new step in the development of locking mechanisms was the emergence of electric locks. They are distinguished not only by a more perfect ability to protect the home, but also by a number of other qualities. With such a device, you can equip a door to any room. It is also suitable for street barriers.

general characteristics

Such devices practically do not differ in appearance from their mechanical counterparts. But their main distinguishing feature is their connection to the mains. The power source can be central or standby. Such a mechanism is controlled by:

  • keychain;
  • electronic card;
  • keys;
  • buttons;
  • fingerprint.

But even if the electricity was cut off, such a lock is capable of performing the function of a simple mechanical one. It is also possible to connect the electric lock to the security system:

  • intercom;
  • alarm;
  • video intercom;
  • panels with a keyboard.

There are 2 main types of mechanical electric locks.

  • Mortise. In this case, the structure is not outside, but inside the canvas. They are provided with 2 functioning mechanisms: day and night, which differ in the number of latches.
  • Overhead. The structure is located on top of the door.

The block of electromechanical locks includes the mechanism itself and the control system. The lock structure consists of a body made of high-quality steel, as well as a cylinder and a counterpart. A set of keys included. The security block includes an intercom and a control panel. It connects to the mechanism using a power supply and a cable.

As a rule, you have to buy this system yourself, it does not come with a lock. Overhead electric locks differ in their mechanism of action.

The motor structure locks up rather slowly. Therefore, in a room with high traffic of people, the installation of such a lock is undesirable. It is perfect for gates of a private house or for protecting rooms with increased secrecy. For crowded premises, a crossbar mechanism is more suitable. The crossbar can be driven by a solenoid or an electromagnet. The magnet closes the lock when current is applied to it. When the tension subsides, it opens up. Such magnetic devices are so strong that they can withstand a resistance of 1 ton.

Surface mounted electric locking elements differ in their configuration, as well as in the level of protection. For example, they have different amounts of constipation. And outdoor models are additionally sealed to protect the mechanism from moisture and temperature.

Common models

Currently, there are many companies that are engaged in the distribution of electric locking mechanisms. And their goods differ in quality and price..

  1. Sheriff 3B. Domestic brand, the products of which are distinguished by a decent quality of work. The mechanism is mounted in the door corner, so it is used for doors that open in any direction. It has a steel base and is protected by powder enamel. Its control is carried out using an ACS or an intercom. A universal mechanism that fits all types of doors.
  2. Cisa. Widespread Italian firm. The lock does not require a constant supply of current, a pulse is enough. Opening with a simple key is possible. The set also contains a coded key, the cipher of which the buyer recognizes after opening the package. This increases the reliability and safety provided by the lock.
  3. Abloy. A brand that is considered the leader in the production of locking mechanisms. His products are characterized by super secrecy and reliability. Suitable for both outdoor and indoor doors. They are controlled remotely and even with handles.
  4. ISEO. Another Italian company that can boast of its quality and high level of work. The manufacturer presents a wide range of products that differ in quality, type and power.

The assortment of this product is so diverse that you can choose a suitable option for yourself at the price and type of your door.

What should be considered when choosing?

If you decide to purchase a surface-mounted electromechanical lock, pay attention to the following points:

  • the mechanism of its work;
  • required voltage;
  • product material;
  • type of power supply: constant, variable, combined;
  • accompanying documentation: quality and safety certificate, warranty period;
  • tightness of the mechanism;
  • how it is located on the door and installation features.

Be sure to take into account the material from which the door leaf is made. As well as the degree of cross-country ability and place of installation. For example, for outdoor objects (gates, fence), choose a mechanism with a spring or with an electric latch. But for interior doors, it is better to use a mortise version. Among the main advantages of an electric locking element, it is worth highlighting:

  • high level security;
  • the ability to choose a model for any door;
  • aesthetic appearance;
  • various types of control, including remote control.

The electromechanical lock is a truly new level in the development of locking mechanisms. Its installation is the guarantor of the utmost protection of your home, property and your life.
