Wood is one of the most popular building materials and is increasingly used for residential buildings. Structures of this type are practical and environmentally friendly. Wood not only does not emit harmful substances, but can also have a beneficial effect on human well-being. But working with such a material is much more difficult than with other building structures. This is especially true for finishing works involving the installation of frame systems. Starting such operations, you should learn how to install doors in a wooden house. This will eliminate many problems that may arise some time after installation work.

Peculiarities

Wooden houses are unique structures with beautiful design and durability. But installing a door leaf in such a system requires a special approach.

This is due to several features of these structures:

  • Shrinkage. This phenomenon takes a very long time, as the tree constantly expands or dries in various conditions. During this phenomenon, a certain pressure is created on the window or door frames. This, in turn, can distort their appearance and change technical parameters. The main shrinkage process is most relevant in the first 5-6 years of service of a wooden house.
  • Dynamism. Wood absorbs moisture very well, which causes changes in its dimensions. This leads to periodic expansion and contraction of the structure frame. At such times, loading pressure can also be created, which negatively affects wooden doors. To avoid this, it is recommended to use special impregnations.
  • Mountings. Wood has a special fibrous structure, which is very easy to destroy with the help of fasteners. Therefore, it is important to select the required dimensions for these parts, as well as the methods of fixing them in the wood.
  • Strength. If the door leaf is installed incorrectly, this can lead to the weakening of the boards near the frame. A similar nuance can be used by thieves to open the structure and enter the house.

In order to exclude the destruction of the structure under the influence of the movement of the house, when installing the door leaves, the arrangement of the casing frame is performed. There are several main ways to do it.

Casing installation

This process begins by forming a groove at the ends of the doorway. Many experts recommend cutting it with a milling cutter with dimensions of 5x5 cm (depth, width). From below and from above, you can perform this system using a chisel.

After that, a bar of the same size must be inserted into this groove. Please note that its height should be equal to the height of the door and be less than the height of the opening by 10 cm. To give strength, a plank equal to the width of the wall is nailed to the timber. If you need to organize a box, a horizontal board is attached to the vertical boards. Sometimes the last element may not be there.

This option is only suitable for strong door structures that can withstand heavy loads.

Shedding from a bar

This design is also a tongue-and-groove connection. Only now the thorn is cut at the ends of the doorway. Its width is approximately 5 cm, height is up to 4 cm.The door frame is formed from a timber with dimensions of 10x10 cm.In the middle of the product, using a router, select a groove 4 cm deep and 5 cm wide.

The height of the beam, as in the first case, should be 10 cm less than the height of the opening. This will allow you to organize the gaps between the door frame and the house. The top bar is fixed with an overlay on the vertical elements.

In some cases, they are connected using an end plate. It acts as a spacer, preventing the top element from moving.

The clearances between the casing and the doorway also depend on the level of shrinkage. If the house has been standing for about 6 years, then this value can be equal to 2 cm. This will compensate for the temporary expansion of the tree depending on the weather. When the house has not yet undergone shrinkage, then such gaps should be at least 5 cm.But only an experienced specialist can qualitatively assess a specific indicator.

The following video will tell you more about the nuances of casing.

The main stages of installation

The technology for installing doors in a log or log house is similar, since their design is almost identical. It is important to take into account the shrinkage of the house itself and the technical parameters of the wall sheet.

The installation of this product consists of several sequential steps:

  • Initially, an opening for the door leaf is formed in the wall. Its dimensions should be slightly larger in order to provide the ability to form a casing and leave small gaps. It is important to consider this when choosing doors or cutting an opening. The main thing is that it is even and without distortions. If they are present, then this can adversely affect the operation of a plastic or iron door.

If the walls led to one side, then you can try to align them using various anchors and mechanisms. To do this, a thick bar is nailed to the surface of the wall. He will lead the entire wall a little in the right direction.

  • The next step is the construction of the casing. The technology for its construction was described in the previous section. The main thing is to ensure not only its evenness, but also the presence of gaps. This will allow the walls to move freely depending on moisture and shrinkage. Please note that if you are installing a metal door, then the vertical lintel can be excluded from the casing. Metal perfectly withstands loads, so the main thing is to leave only a gap for annual vibrations of wood and its shrinkage.

This applies only to high-quality products, not doors that are made of thin sheet metal.

  • At this stage, you need to insert the box. You can do this with your own hands, since this procedure is practically no different from the standard one. If these are wooden doors, then initially the box is constructed from timber or chipboard blanks that come with the product. All elements can be connected to each other at an angle of 45 and 90 degrees. All this depends only on the specific design features.
  • When the frame of a metal or wooden door is installed, it needs to be leveled. For this, small wooden pegs are used. The main thing here is to expose the structure exactly in all planes and fix it securely. Therefore, the box must be opened with pegs.

Please note that you can install in a wooden house not only interior products (compartments, swing doors, etc.), but also entrance steel or PVC balcony doors. The algorithm for their installation is monotonous, and only requires the arrangement of a high-quality casing frame. If thermal insulation is important to you, then during the installation of the structure, fill all the cracks with tow or polyurethane foam.

The latter products are used to fix the box itself, along with self-tapping screws.

Fastening mechanism

The reliability and durability of the entire door leaf depends on the quality of the frame fastening.

Therefore, it is important to properly attach this structure to the casing:

  • Self-tapping screws or anchors should be used as fasteners, which in length should not be more than the thickness of the casing and the door frame. It is not necessary that they fasten the frame to the walls of the house themselves. This forms a one-piece structure that will react to shrinkage and deformation. They are not used for fixing bolts and anchors on concrete, which will not be able to hold the canvas.
  • If self-tapping screws are used, they must be screwed in a checkerboard pattern. They must fit into the groove on both sides. This will allow the box to be positioned more securely.
  • For all types of fasteners, it is imperative to drill holes. Their diameter should be slightly smaller than the self-tapping screw itself or the anchor. This will allow them to securely fix the structure, and also prevent cracking of a bar or log. Please note that the diameter of the fastener should also not be too large. Thick self-tapping screws can create a lot of stress, which in itself can crack.

Which model should you choose?

Modern manufacturers produce many modifications of door leaves. In theory, they can all be installed in a wooden house, but in reality this is not always the case. Today, several types of structures can be the best option for solving such a problem.

Metal doors

This is a great option for entryways to a wooden house. They can withstand significant loads, as well as complemented by complex locks. There are insulated modifications on the market that perfectly tolerate cold and prevent it from penetrating into the house. At the same time, the metal easily tolerates shrinkage at home and does not warp.

Experts recommend buying only insulated models that will not freeze through, and also remain working.

Wooden doors

Wood products are great for these types of structures. They fit into the main design of the premises, which allows them to be given unique characteristics. Wooden canvases are suitable for indoor use, as they do not tolerate moisture well.

There are many modifications of similar products:

  • The cheapest are fiberboard and MDF canvases. But these products have good design features. The canvases are complemented by carvings, glass inserts and many colors.
  • But still the best option is solid wood doors. They are not only durable, but also look beautiful. Today you can buy canvases, both from pine, oak or ash. Each of these breeds has a unique texture that adds comfort and warmth to every home.

At the same time, the tree also reacts to external conditions, like the house itself. This can eliminate the occurrence of distortions of the web and extend the life of the entire system.

Plastic

Door leaves made of this material are rarely installed in a wooden house. Many owners use these designs only in the bathroom or in the bath room. This is due to the fact that plastic perfectly tolerates moisture and requires minimal maintenance. At the same time, the material can withstand significant loads, since manufacturers complement the profile with a metal frame. Therefore, the frame of this product will be difficult to distort with proper installation.

Successful examples and options

An ivory-colored interior door is best suited for a house made of timber and logs. It emphasizes the retro style and fits perfectly into the design of the premises.

The secure entrance door is decorated with beautiful fittings and a knocker in the shape of a lion's head, complemented by carved platbands. The solemnity of the entrance group is emphasized by sculptures of lions on both sides of the door and a balustrade (figured posts) that flank the staircase.

The attic wooden door is fully matched to the color of the walls. A sesal carpet, a white sofa, wicker chairs and a black coffee table look very beautiful here. Thanks to the "sunny" shade of the door, walls, ceiling and floor, the room is pleasant, cozy and light.
