Doors are necessary not only for zoning and soundproofing, but also for beauty. Swinging interior doors are found in the interior more often than other models, because they have already become a kind of classic.

Peculiarities

Despite the large selection of interior door designs, swing doors are the most common. The familiar version has a classic design: a box and a leaf with a handle are installed in the doorway, the sash swings open to the left or right (usually "towards itself", but sometimes in the opposite direction). The classic way of operating wins the fashionable novelties (compartment doors, revolving doors and other options). The practicality of such models has been proven over time.

They also have other advantages:

  • Attractive appearance. Swing designs look elegant and stylish. The neat design allows them to fit into most interior solutions.
  • Ease of use. Such doors are easy to open and close, and the method of operation is familiar and familiar to everyone.
  • Easy to install. If you have certain skills, the structure can be installed independently without the help of specialists.
  • Excellent insulating properties. Due to the tight fit of the canvas to the box (with proper installation), such doors better prevent extraneous noise from entering the room. The same nuance provides better heat retention and protection from extraneous odors, unlike other types of structures. That is why swing models are especially recommended for the kitchen.
  • Variety of options. A huge selection of models, materials, shades and textures allows such doors to easily match any style. This is a sophisticated classic, and a romantic shabby chic, and even a rude loft. You can disguise the door structure against the background of the walls or make it a highlight of the interior, it all depends on your imagination.

There are few drawbacks to swing doors, although they should also be taken into account when buying.

  • Size restrictions. For doorways that are too wide, this type of single leaf door is not suitable. It is technically possible to customize a large size model, but it will look too bulky and ridiculous. In such cases, it is better to choose double-leaf structures or install an additional partition.
  • The need for free space for opening. In small apartments, the operation of such a door can be difficult. The structure requires free space to open it. When open, it also takes up some useful room space.
  • The need for a limiter. If the force is not calculated when opening, the door handle may hit the wall. With regular sharp opening, both the handle itself and the wallpaper can be damaged, therefore it is advisable to install special stops on the floor to control the movement of the door leaf.

Views

Hinged interior doors are classified according to several criteria. We need to dwell on each of them in more detail.

By the number of canvases

  • Single leaf... This type of construction is most familiar to owners of typical apartments. It is installed in the presence of a standard doorway. The design of such doors is very diverse and allows them to fit into any interior.
  • Bivalve... For openings of non-standard size, doors of the "vest" type are suitable. They represent a door frame with two swinging leaves fixed on opposite sides. Double doors are convenient only in very spacious apartments, because they require a significant area to open them (at least 2 sq. M.). However, the luxurious appearance of such structures covers this disadvantage.

Double-leaf doors are often used to decorate rooms in the spirit of the Empire, Baroque and other classical trends.

  • One-and-a-half-leaf (double-leafed). Another solution for a wide opening is asymmetric one-and-a-half doors. In this design, one leaf swings open as standard, while the second remains stationary, while the size of the second sash is much smaller than the first. Such a compromise option is suitable if the opening is too wide for one canvas, but not large enough for a full-fledged double-leaf version.

Some asymmetrical models allow both doors to be opened. Usually, a narrow canvas is opened only in special situations, for example, if you need to bring furniture into the room.

  • Swinging or pendulum. An interesting type of swing doors is swinging. They can open in both directions (both inward and outward). The static closed position is maintained by gravity. The hinge attachment point is slightly inclined towards the inside of the opening, this keeps the canvas in place.

Such doors are usually installed in offices and rooms decorated in an ultra-modern style.

By construction type

  • Paneled... Here the wooden frame is filled with panels. The latter are all kinds of insertion elements. They can be made of wood, MDF, glass and the like. Such structures look attractive, are distinguished by high strength, resistance to deformation.

Among the shortcomings, only the large weight of the canvases can be noted, which slightly complicates their installation. Some may consider the rather high cost of products to be a disadvantage.

  • Shield... Such designs can also be blind or combined. In the first case, the product consists of a wooden frame with MDF sheets. The inner part is also filled with MDF or pressed cardboard. The surface of the product can be laminated, processed using the veneering technique or covered with PVC. In the second case, various decorative glass or plastic inserts are used.

Panel doors belong to the economy class and are available to a wide range of buyers. They look aesthetically pleasing, weigh little, and have sufficient strength and reliability.

  • Tsargovye... The basis of this design is made up of tsars - elements of the same type, located horizontally one under the other on the canvas. Various drawers made of wood, glass or metal can give models a very original look. Such doors are strong, reliable and durable, but they are heavy.
  • Molded... This type is distinguished by the uniformity of the web. If it is visually divided into several parts, then they will all be identical. Wood, plastic and glass are used as materials for such structures. Molded models look original. In addition, they are very durable due to the multi-layer manufacturing technology. The disadvantages include the large weight and complexity of the installation (you cannot do without professional help here).
  • Glass... In addition to interior doors with glass in the form of inserts, manufacturers offer all-glass models. These doors can be matte or transparent. Various patterns are often used as decoration. Either way, the designs look incredibly light. Such doors let in a lot of light, create the illusion of spaciousness, and give the interior a refined originality.

Tempered glass, as well as a special technology "triplex" guarantee the strength and reliability of the doors.Even with a strong impact, they do not break and do not paint into small fragments, although cracks and scratches on the canvas can appear even with a slight impact.

  • Mirrored... Doors with mirrors are rarely used in residential areas. Mirrors create the illusion of additional space and can serve a practical function, but for most people this door design is too unusual.
  • Without box. Doors without platbands are used to design ultra-modern interiors. These are usually glass and mirror models, as well as glossy doors and paint options. The latter type allows you to visually hide the doors against the background of the walls, giving them a similar color and texture.
  • Radius... Curved doors have a complex design. Here, the accuracy of the calculations is important, because the exact fit of the leaf to the doorway depends on the bending radius. Radial swing doors are made of aluminum, wood, plastic with or without various inserts. Glass frameless structures are also popular.

Color solutions

White

Snow-white doors create an atmosphere of lightness and freshness. Models with glass inserts are especially elegant, although blind doors in this color look no less impressive. White can be easily combined with other shades, reflects light and creates the effect of expanding the space. This is why designers often include such doors in their designs.

Neutral

For those who prefer calm colors, doors in natural shades (beige, sand, walnut) are suitable. Light colors are ideal for small and poorly lit rooms. Like white, neutral tones visually make rooms appear more spacious and brighter. Such doors look great in large halls. This is a versatile option that can be easily combined with any interior and any other colors.

It does not attract attention, harmoniously complementing the setting and allowing other objects to take the place of the main elements of the composition.

Brown

Dark doors create a spectacular contrast, attract attention, make the atmosphere more austere and stylish. Usually all models of dark wood are called "wenge". The noble chocolate shade fits perfectly into modern design (modern, minimalism).

Black and gray

Doors in these colors are ideal for modern furnishings. Black models look especially impressive in gloss. Door designs in all shades of gray are good in any design. They are a neutral option for those who prefer cool colors in the interior.

Bright

A door of crimson, ultra-blue, acid-yellow or other rich colors can become a highlight of the room. It can be the only bright accent against the background of neutral tones (black, beige, gray, white) or it can be combined with some detail of the furnishings (with upholstery of upholstered furniture, for example). In the second case, it is important to accurately match the tone of the object to which you are matching the shade of the door.

Do not forget that you should not combine more than three bright colors in one room.

Mechanism

The fastening system for swing models is quite simple. The canvas is fixed in the doorway with hinges, and a handle and a lock are installed on the opposite side. Loops can be regular or hidden.

The second option makes the design even more aesthetic. Usually such hinges are used in the design of modern minimalist interiors. Also, any owner of an interior door can install a web position sensor on it. This element prevents accidental door closing and self-activation of the lock.

To increase the insulation, the door frame is equipped with a threshold. When closed, it fits snugly against the edging, protecting the room from noise, cool air and foreign odors. If maximum tightness is required between the sash and the rest of the structure, a silicone seal is added around the perimeter.

Also, the doors can have a rebate (special overlay). Models with a vestibule in a closed form have practically no slots, however, if the structure is correctly selected and installed, then this part can be dispensed with. Another point is the presence of a special jumper. It is installed on plastic models, increasing their resistance to sudden movements.

Dimensions (edit)

The dimensions of single-leaf doors range from 60 to 90 cm, and the height of such models reaches 2.2 m.As for double-leaf structures, usually the width of each leaf is 60-70 cm.In asymmetric versions, a narrower leaf can have a width of 40 to 60 cm , and wider - from 70 to 90 cm.

Each manufacturer offers a choice of its own options, while some firms also carry out individual orders according to the customer's parameters.

How to choose?

To find the optimal model, you need to pay attention to several factors.

Room type

For bedrooms, children's rooms and bathrooms, solid wood models are usually chosen. It is also better to install an opaque version in a niche for a dressing room. A beautiful door structure with glass inserts can be put into the hall. Both double-leaf structures and various decor will be appropriate here. Both a wooden and glass model and a plastic version are suitable for the kitchen. It is better if the door surface can be easily cleaned from possible contamination.

Colour

If all doors leading to the living room, kitchen and other rooms "meet" in the same corridor, you can choose a single color for all door leaves. The only difference can be in the number of inserts and design nuances. If there is only one room, you can choose the color of the door structure to match the shade of the floor, walls or large pieces of furniture (cabinets, walls, headsets). A contrasting option is also possible (for example, a dark door with a light floor covering and wall decoration).

In this case, the door can be harmoniously complemented with a plinth, carpet, upholstered furniture or other items of the same color.

Style

The design of the doors is selected taking into account the style of the premises:

  • Classics presupposes elegance and nobility: a wooden door of natural colors, for example, white, would be appropriate here. Exquisite patterns, painting, gilding are used as decoration.
  • Modern also welcomes natural materials, but in a more modern processing. Usually, in such cases, wenge color models with glass inserts, original textures or various patterns are chosen, but bright options are also acceptable.
  • The Provence charm is accentuated by white wooden doors.
  • Minimalism and hi-tech styles are based on ultra-modern trends: glass, glossy surfaces, mainly cold colors (white, black, gray) are used.

Beautiful ideas in the interior

  • The modern interior in beige tones creates a favorable atmosphere for rest and relaxation. A door in a natural shade harmonizes with the overall furnishings and fits perfectly into the concept.
  • Panoramic windows, hinged modular structures and cool colors create a beautifully designed high-tech space. A mirrored door without platbands is an ideal addition to such a laconic interior.
  • You can dilute the neutral gray-white range with bright colors. The cherry-colored glossy doors are a luscious accent that gives the room character and personality.
  • Gray-beige is another neutral option, albeit more strict. The choice of a door structure to match the color of the walls forms a winning stylistic union here.
  • A fuchsia door is a bold decision, but the predominance of light colors in the room helps to avoid excessive brightness. Upholstered furniture with stripes of the same color helps to achieve color harmony without losing the lightness and charm of the interior.
