The angle drill is a type of hammerless drill. The tool is actively used when performing repair and construction work carried out in confined spaces and objects of complex configuration. Ease of use, low cost and wide consumer availability of the corner device make it a rather popular and demanded professional power tool.

Specifications

In terms of their functional purpose, angle drills differ little from traditional models, but they are structurally arranged somewhat differently. The main difference between the two tool modifications is the angle of transmission of torque, which in angular models corresponds to 90 degrees relative to the location of the main nodes and the body.

In addition, due to the design features, the impact capacity of such devices is absent.

Angle drills can operate both from a 220 V network and from batteries. Devices powered by electricity are called "volumetric" and are widely used in repairs and construction. Battery samples are irreplaceable when performing installation workfor example, when assembling furniture, consumer electronics and other products, the installation of which requires drilling holes and tightening screws and bolts.

The main technical indicator of angle drills is their power, as well as shaft rotation speed and weight. The power of such models is on average 350-810 W and depends on the type of power supply and the brand of the device.

The rotation speed is slightly inferior to that of traditional drills and varies within 1100-2300 rpm. / min., while for a percussion instrument it can be 2800 or more. / min.

The weight of the devices in comparison with classic drills is approximately the same and averages 1.5 kg.

However, there are also very light models, the mass of which barely reaches 1.2 kg. These include cordless devices, which, due to their low weight, greatly facilitate work.

Another important technical parameter of angle drills is their shape. Among a large number of models of different brands, there are both flattened and fairly large devices. And if the former are more often used in furniture production, the latter have a higher power, are powered from the mains and are able to work with complex materials in difficult external conditions.

For example, a typical representative of "serious" angle devices is the Makita DA 6301 drill, which weighs 4.3 kg and has a power of 810 watts.

Due to its high power, this model can be used not only for screwing in screws or drilling holes, but also for mixing thick mortars and building mixtures.

Almost all angle models are equipped with a reverse function, which allows you to change the direction of rotation of the drill and perform any technical task of any complexity.

The chuck of angle drills is designed for tools with shanks from 1 to 13 mm, which allows you to perform a fairly wide range of work with such a tool.

Adjustment of the rotational speed of the drill is carried out using a convenient button or a wheel located on it.

Many models of angle tools are equipped with a spindle lock function that automatically locks the motor shaft when the drill needs to be replaced.

Features of use

Working with an angle drill is quite easy due to its light weight, comfortable grip and flattened shape of the tool. The device fits easily in confined spaces and can be used in areas where a conventional drill simply cannot fit.

However, despite the simplicity and simplicity of manipulations, some rules for using a power tool still need to be observed.

  • Before using an angle drill, make sure that there are no wires and metal parts inside the working surface - this will help to avoid injury and prolong the life of the tool.
  • Do not put excessive pressure on the device. If you have to drill concrete or metal, then for these purposes you should choose an appropriate high power tool - most angle drills are unsuitable for such work.
  • Work with this or that material should be carried out using the cartridge that is intended for this. For example, drilling wood and plastic surfaces requires the use of plastic keyless chucks, while metal or concrete requires the presence of metal keyless and serrated key models.
  • If the device has to be used very often, then it should be remembered that drills consisting of plastic gears and coated with molybdenum grease are not able to last long under heavy loads. Devices with a metal "filling" can be safely operated for a long time without worrying about their quick failure.

Popular manufacturers

The modern power tool market offers a huge range of angle drills. Among the large number of products, there are both eminent brands and little-known inexpensive options. Due to the high competition, most models have good build quality and high performance, however some of them should be highlighted separately.

    • Hitachi Japanese Corner Drills well known all over the world. The manufacturer produces models with electronic control and a low head height. This allows the technician to work in significantly narrowed areas that are difficult to access - where any other drill will not fit. The devices are equipped with a reverse system and can be used as a screwdriver.
    • Japanese brand Makita also well known to professional craftsmen. The company is the oldest supplier of construction power tools and produces the highest quality products. Makita angle electric drills have many options, such as spotlights, the ability to install another handle and a reversing mechanism.
    • German firm Bosch is also considered one of the world's best power tool manufacturers and produces high-tech and very high quality angle drills. The devices have many options and are capable of operating in aggressive environmental conditions - this allows the devices to be used at rather low temperatures, which is especially important in our country.
    • Among domestic models, "Zubr" and "Fiolent" have good characteristics., but in many operating parameters they are slightly inferior to foreign counterparts. However, the cost of these models is much lower than that of famous brands, so they are quite suitable for non-professional use, as well as the assembly and repair of furniture.

    Criterias of choice

    Before you start buying an angle drill, you should pay attention to the following points:

    • when choosing a model, you need to know that electrical appliances always weigh more than battery ones;
    • when choosing the size of the model, the following point should be taken into account: the smaller its dimensions, the higher the probability of penetration into hard-to-reach places;
    • it makes no sense to buy especially powerful models for home use - a rotation speed of 1200 rpm will be quite enough;
    • when choosing a chuck, you need to know that collet key holders are much more reliable and stronger than quick-clamping models.

      Angle drills are great helpers in complex technical tasks, however, despite their efficiency, they are definitely not irreplaceable power tools.

      If you plan to drill holes on the surface once or perform minor repairs, it will be enough to purchase an adapter for a conventional drill, which can be used as a flexible shaft.

      In the professional activity in the field of construction, the angle drill contributes to the quick and high-quality execution of the most complex technical tasks.
