Knowing what can be made from planks is essential for any homeowner. You can make a variety of crafts from scraps and leftovers with your own hands, suffice it to say that these are as necessary things as a chandelier or a hanger. It is also worth mentioning pots for a summer residence and a garden, a lamp on the ceiling and other products that are useful and pleasant in everyday life.

What kind of furniture can you make?

Rack

This type of decoration can be made from planks with your own hands, even with a complete lack of carpentry experience. It is enough just to put together the structure using nails of a suitable size. You can even use wood of the 3rd and sometimes 4 grades. In sheds, racks made of low-grade wood are quite appropriate, they are also suitable for:

  • summer cottages;
  • secondary warehouses;
  • cellars;
  • basements;
  • country houses;
  • attics.

The most durable rack is obtained if the structure is rigidly attached to the wall. If it is made of wood, the furniture is simply nailed to it. For the home, especially for the front rooms, it is better to do something more impressive. In this case, a tree of the second or even first grade is used, it is carefully processed and varnished. Such a design is only possible for people with experience. It is even possible to equip the rack with wheels to make it easier to move around the room.

Side table

This structure is usually made with a few small planks used as legs and a wide, sturdy plank used to make the table top. The worktop itself should be somewhat thicker than the shelves of the rack. Everything must be carefully thought out and calculated in order to exclude errors.

Attention: no matter what furniture is made, a drawing should be prepared - otherwise the probability of misses increases significantly.

Recommendations:

  • provide for a strictly defined number of seats and free space between them;
  • when installed outside - cover the product with weather-resistant varnish;
  • add to the table a wooden bench of similar sizes and approximately the same design;
  • place the tabletop at a height of 0.6 - 0.8 m (exception - if the table is needed specifically for a very tall person).

Stool

Its manufacture from wood does not cause any significant difficulties at all, then it is not necessary to be limited to the traditional quadrangular shape. It is quite possible to make an elegant folding stool (round). With a well-thought-out design, it will even be possible to do without a variety of jumpers and latches.

Important: the closing of the steel pin between the legs, which is present in a number of models, is achieved by turning a wooden lintel.

If you paint the furniture in bright colors, it is perfect for playrooms and playgrounds. You can easily imagine such products even in kindergarten. As a last resort, you can assemble a monolithic bench. Important: The three-legged stool is even more stable than traditional 4-point models, especially on uneven surfaces. You just need to carefully make all measurements and holes.

A bedside stool in the style of Art Nouveau will help to show originality. Along with the design function, it can also become:

  • stand for gadgets and small personal items;
  • support for a vase;
  • replacing the coffee table.

In some cases, along with real boards, it is good to use chipboard. In this option, the choice of a minimalistic design is logical.If you want to diversify the design of the room, you can decorate the lid with wood carvings. With your own hands, you will be able to make bar stools, which are placed in kitchens near the bar counters. Any ready-made photo from the catalog is taken as a sample, and the seat upholstery with soft material helps to diversify the appearance.

But even on the listed structures, of course, the possibilities for creating furniture from boards do not end there. The main thing is to choose the right type of tree. The main structural parts are made from hard species of apple, beech, elm. You can take an oak, but it is very difficult to process. Decorative parts that are not exposed to significant stress are made of soft wood - pine, juniper, fir, less often from other species.

When it is known that furniture will stand in a damp room, it is necessary to buy a sturdy and reliable cedar. Wishing to achieve a unique-looking product, one should prefer wenge, mahogany, meranti or makore, which are famous for their atypical texture. However, it should be understood that such options are not cheap. A beech set is mechanically reliable, but not resistant to moisture.

If you have the right tools and skills, you can make furniture from oak planks. It is quite logical to adapt them for massive, solid things:

  • kitchen sets;
  • dressers;
  • walls;
  • cabinets;
  • beds.

Mostly chairs and coffee tables are made from birch with their own hands. The reason is the insufficient strength of this breed. For efficient work, it is advised to use a power tool. Find out in advance whether detachable or non-detachable connections are needed. For the design of the front parts, in some cases it is worth taking MDF.

Making a hanger

This solution is most appropriate for a summer residence. However, with a well-thought-out design, it will look good in any home, even in the middle of an exquisite interior.

The location of the hooks on the selected board is marked with a marker or felt-tip pen.

It is not necessary to use exactly one board, several can be used at once, the main thing is that they fit tightly to each other. The easiest way to mount the hanger to the wall is with dowels.

It is advisable either before installation, or immediately after it, to pass the surface with emery - then even small roughness will be removed. Floor hangers other than planks include:

  • copper elbows;
  • copper tees;
  • stubs;
  • round sticks of a suitable section.

Interesting kitchen utensils

It is not necessary to make plates or even spoons out of boards - in the end, this is still too much processing, for many people it is too complicated. But it is quite possible to limit yourself to an elegant tray or cutting board: in the end, it turns out just as well. Of the breeds, it is advised to use:

  • linden;
  • birch;
  • aspen;
  • pear.

In some cases, juniper wood is also used. All this is used without fear, because high strength is definitely not required.

It should be noted that a very thorough grinding is required for kitchen utensils. It is produced by hand, using consistently emery with less and less grain.

The drawing can be stenciled to make your life easier. An almost win-win option is to decorate it under Khokhloma or Palekh.

Decor options for the interior

From unnecessary scraps of boards, a lot of original things are obtained. Recommendation: it is better to burn the pine mass with a gas burner in order to increase the saturation of the texture. It is advisable not to screw home-made wood tiles, but to glue them on the wall. It is required to mount it strictly according to the level in order to avoid visual distortion. Usually I try to lay tiles of the same size around the perimeter, and for this I lay them out from the middle.

A wooden lamp on the ceiling will become a worthy decoration. Or, as a logical development of this idea - a spectacular chandelier on chains. Such a solution will ideally fit into the traditional interior and loft furnishings.It is recommended to use wood in the same color as the main furniture in the room. Since no one will particularly inspect the chandelier, and it is not difficult to decorate it, it can be made even from an unedged board.

Correction of color to the desired shade is carried out using a special varnish.

Important: you should check all dimensions in the drawing twice and three times, try on the product itself before installation. The probability of a mistake is great, if it is made, it will be extremely disappointing for wasted efforts.

The assembly of the structure is ideally done by inserting the elements into the grooves. The less glue and hardware, the better.

Another logical solution is a panel made of wooden waste on the wall. It may look harsh, but it has its own special charm. To soften the composition a little, it is decorated with drawings. There are a lot of options for drawings, but it is still advisable to use more calm and harmonious plots. Sometimes a stylized figure of an animal is enough. It is recommended to use LED lamps as backlighting.

Also, in addition to the panel, wood residues can be used:

  • fragments of oriented slabs;
  • strong ropes or ropes (preferably jute);
  • liquid nails for more efficient installation.

Do not even be afraid of rotten edges. After high-quality sanding, they give an interesting visual effect. When planning to draw up a drawing, it is better to immediately outline the contours with black or white paint, and then, within these boundaries, apply bright dyes. Attention: before decorating the panel, you need to drill holes. They also have a decorative function, and at the same time allow you to fix the structure.

The panel is also obtained from threads, nails and boards. This original design school is called String Art. Many thousands of works have already been completed within its framework.

It is not necessary to reproduce ready-made samples, but one of them will definitely become the starting point for an independent project.

Ideally, the template is prepared on a computer, viewed in 3D and, if satisfied, printed.

Sometimes the boards remain from the barrel. In this case, it is not necessary to disassemble them and try to apply the details somewhere. The remains of the keg are suitable as:

  • armchairs with tables made in the same style;
  • decorative kennel;
  • a stool of an irregular shape;
  • a rough washbasin in the country;
  • original hanging cradle.

If neither these solutions nor the key board on the wall are suitable, then you can consider other options such as:

  • canvas for a homemade painting;
  • shelves;
  • candlestick;
  • ceiling in Provence or retro style;
  • bench for shoes;
  • banquet;
  • decorative bench in the bath.

Crafts for the garden

It is not necessary to be limited to just home applications of old or unnecessary boards. Of them, in a relatively easy way, you can make paths and curbs in the country. Of the purely utilitarian objects, it is worth mentioning:

  • frames of greenhouses and greenhouses;
  • well casings;
  • benches;
  • swing;
  • perimeters for playgrounds (sandboxes).

But on the basis of the board, you can also make a number of decorative products. First of all, we are talking about flower pots. A very good idea is a black and white keyboard front. It is easy to find prototypes of such constructions by the word "piano", and here is one possible example.

Pots, similar to boxes, are usually formed from timber and boards. Small, portable designs can even be fitted with handles.

Things are more complicated when it comes to decorative figures. Even an imitation of a mill will still require complex figured work. If this is not intimidating, you can also consider other options:

  • elf figurine;
  • stylized deer;
  • cat;
  • dog;
  • Tiger;
  • bear;
  • house;
  • "Wooden little men" (both standing and seated on a bench);
  • rabbits;
  • sparrows;
  • cranes;
  • owls;
  • camels;
  • horses;
  • imitations of famous statues.
