Ants in a wooden house can appear for a variety of reasons. That is why it is important to know how to get rid of large tree ants forever by different means. It is no less important to figure out how to get forest ants in a village house, how to avoid their appearance again.

Reasons for the appearance

Ants in a wooden house appear very often - much more often than we would like. There are two main factors - one insect needs to find food, which is provided by humans, but large tree ants feed on the house itself, its main structures. Pharaoh ants move into houses if:

  • the original anthill is located nearby or in adjacent rooms;

  • cleaning is done too rarely;

  • pests were brought in by accident, for example, with purchases or with planting material (excavated soil);

  • insects flee from some kind of danger and look for a new refuge where they could settle.

Large (or small) ants often settle in a village dwelling with neighbors. There is nothing surprising in this: when the house is close to the original settlement, the growth of the population makes the ants "open branches" in a certain radius. This is the genetic program laid down for many millions of years. It is also worth considering that ants tend to:

  • damp and humid places (especially if it is a damp basement);

  • places where garbage is stored and accumulated;

  • food stocks.

There is nothing strange here either: insects need food. They also need quite a lot of water for the entire anthill. Therefore, the sloppy and sloppy owners of the house, one might say, invite them to themselves. The move-in procedure is well known: it begins with the visits of individual "scouts". Then a more numerous "army" will look into the house, and if they find the new place suitable, they will definitely found a settlement.

How to determine presence?

But in a wooden house, as you might guess, carpenter ants are especially dangerous. They can destroy the integrity of the home and its aesthetics. Contrary to popular belief, these insects do not eat wood, but only gnaw, making numerous passages. The material of choice is deposited in heaps, and "tunnel construction waste" is similar to the shavings that appear when shaving off a pencil. However, it is not worth waiting for such a bunch to catch the eye - usually this happens in the advanced phase of aggression, when the woodworms have already managed to disturb a lot.

You need to look for the first, small accumulations of sawdust regularly - they should show up near cracks in the baseboard and external wall decoration. In general, these cracks are the first signal of alarm. Every evening walk you should take the opportunity to see if there are any ants. Woodworms at this time often go to look for water and food for themselves.

An "acoustic" check is also possible: if there is no phonendoscope at home, an ordinary glass will help to hear the movement of insects inside the walls.

It is very important to correctly assess what kind of ants appeared in the house. It is necessary to find out what specific color the woodworms have in your area. If possible, you should estimate the size of the individual using paper and a ruler, and if this fails, then at least visually.Wood grinders, although they differ depending on the function in the anthill, are larger than ordinary ants. Of course, one must pay attention to the characteristic external forms, organs - in order to see them in detail, they use magnifying glasses.

With what help to fight?

Chemicals

But just to identify the invasion of pests is not enough - it is imperative to fight them. This is also important because in addition to laying holes in the walls, insects also contribute to the spread of dangerous infections. Special preparations are used by tracing the paths along which pests move (they are distinguished by a conservative disposition and rarely change their routes). They just put food there, for which a good product is previously used, and the ants themselves will deliver it where needed. We'll have to follow them and find the very nest where they are all going.

If the anthill is located in the furniture, it is sprayed with special preparations. Crates and similar items are much easier to throw away.

But often people are faced with the fact that ants in a private house have bred very deeply, where you will not see their settlement. In this case, the only thing left to do is to resort to chemical treatment. Attention: whatever means is used, it is impossible to process the routes of movement of insects with it - they will simply change their paths over time.

In the most advanced cases, you will have to call a team of specialists for the complete processing of the home. However, then it will be possible to return to the house in at least two days, earlier it is unsafe. In a less serious situation, the processing is carried out by yourself. The most effective drugs are:

  • "Kieselguhr";

  • Delta Dust;

  • concentrated pyrethrum.

Each of these tools has its own specifics. For example, feverfew should not be used if there are cats or cats in the house - for them such a drug is deadly poisonous. Kieselguhr, aka diatomite, on the contrary, is completely safe. True, it only works on dry surfaces. Sprinkling with this product in places where there is high humidity is obviously futile.

Minap 22 is a suspension agent with absolute effectiveness. After processing, woodworms will not bother for about six months. By the end of the protected period, the drug will have to be applied again. Sinuzan is effective mainly against forest ant. It is able to eliminate the nesting pests at one time, but after application, you can return to the house only after 24 hours.

Traditional methods

It is quite possible to destroy insects at the expense of improvised means available in any household, or easily available to him. But it must be borne in mind that this method of control is effective mainly in the early stages of infection. If the pests have not yet managed to make many moves and establish a permanent nest, then boric acid can help. It must be mixed with chalk or sugar. Saucers with such an unpleasant "treat" for uninvited guests are placed as close as possible to the anthill.

Also, the following will help to etch woodworms:

  • yeast;

  • vinegar;

  • garlic;

  • African black soap.

But you can also get rid of these grinders permanently with carboxylic acid. It is mixed with the already mentioned black, with laundry soap, and then diluted with water. It is recommended to treat the nest with this solution three times a day for two days. For your information: the same method is also suitable if you want to remove forest ants.

Some people recommend pouring a mixture of yeast and sugar (in the form of a solution) into the anthill; ammonia is also used to scare away.

Special traps

These are not necessarily store-bought items. The simplest option is to pour some honey or sugar syrup into a bowl, in which the woodworms get bogged down.

Attention: beware, as this method can attract flies, bees and even wasps.A simple proprietary option is the glue-based trap. It is necessary to understand that all such funds do not give a quick result, and you will feel it at least in 2-3 weeks.

Glue traps are placed near trash cans, bins, and other places ants like. However, they cannot cope with the anthill itself, and therefore this kind of struggle can be waged for a very long time without much success. Electrical devices behave similarly. The difference is that insects that have crawled inside do not stick, but are struck by a powerful discharge. The most attractive traps are those with delayed-release insecticides (which completely target the nest).

Prevention measures

No matter how good the means of protection offered by knowledgeable people and modern industry, the most correct thing is to try to protect the house from ants, preventing their invasion at all. If possible, you should refrain from growing trees and powerful shrubs in the immediate vicinity of the home. If they are already there, then you need to cut off the branches located close to a window, wall or even a roof. Flowers, plant products must be carefully shaken out and examined, sometimes woodworms enter the house in this way. Additionally follows:

  • regularly take out and take out garbage;

  • remove branches and foliage;

  • regularly wash floors, furniture, walls, ceilings and windows;

  • close garbage, store it in closed bags;

  • wash the dishes immediately, without waiting for them to accumulate;

  • keep the doors closed, opening them only when necessary;

  • use mosquito nets;

  • carefully use the forest land on the site;

  • monitor the condition of trees and shrubs (often ants attack them first);

  • when suspicious insects appear around the house, scare them away with pungent-smelling substances, primarily essential oils and pepper;

  • monitor the condition of abandoned wooden buildings located nearby;

  • when settling in a new house, carefully check its condition, look into all the nooks and crannies;

  • during construction and repair, do not save on protective treatment.
