It is impossible to imagine the interior of a modern home without a mirror. Big or small, framed or rimless, it is a key part of home furnishing.

Today, these interior accessories, in addition to their practical function, have acquired a harmonious aesthetics, with their help you can visually change the perception of the space of the room in which they are located. These include varieties that are not very convenient to look into: these are dressers with mirrored facades and similar legs decorated with carved patterns, as well as large mirrored canvases, the area of ​​which is covered with a print.

Depending on the shape, the products are linear and angular. The former are ordinary direct mirrors, the latter consist of two or more sheet canvases for easy installation in the corner of the room. They are compactly placed in the corner, save room space, which is especially convenient if the mirror is part of the table. These varieties are used in the bathroom, placing them on the walls.

Products for the nursery are reminiscent of classic dressing tables with a mirrored superstructure. The hall and living room options are close to conventional framed wall models.

• road - products packed in granitol, calico, leatherette, equipped with a lining or a cardboard box, made in the form of a rectangle;

• for shaving - accessories of one-sided and two-sided plan for men, equipped with a spherical mirror, having a polyethylene, polystyrene, acrylate frame and a classic metal stand, made in two shapes: square and rectangle;

• wall - options with a stretcher and a floor made of solid wood or chipboard, often equipped with an openwork frame made of metal coated with bronze and gold, having a conical frame in the form of mirror segments;

• tabletop - an alternative to wall-mounted counterparts, often have a similar and plastic stretcher, one or two work surfaces, a stand and a frame made of metal, plastic, differ in a varied shape, the presence and absence of a facet.

The mirrors also differ in thickness. For example, in pocket varieties this figure is 3-6 mm, bag mirrors are thinner: their maximum possible thickness does not exceed 4 mm.

The indicators depend on the presence of a facet: if there is one, the product is thicker. So, for road and hand-held models, the thickness can exceed 4 mm, for wall models this figure is 9 mm. In addition, each product is subject to certain standards and is categorized by visual inspection.

Initially, mirrors were obtained by pouring liquefied metal onto the wall of a glass spherical vessel, which, when solidified, created a reflective surface.

The main raw material in the production of mirrors is sheet glass with or without polishing. It is based on sand, soda, limestone and other components, thanks to which the mirror does not have a greenish color.

Sheets are cut out, edges are processed, cleaned, then metallized (aluminizing for haberdashery options and silvering for furniture options) and framed.

Models intended for use in places with high humidity are treated with a protective nitro-enamel coating with bitumen varnish.

Different raw materials are used as frames in modern production. Her choice is subject to the purpose of the mirror and its size.

Among the main materials are wood, plastic and plastic.... The base of medium-sized models is often made of multi-layer plywood, fiberboard. Desktop and wall-mounted varieties are often framed in metal, wood and plastic frames.

The times when mirrors stood out with extremely strict lines are a thing of the past. Modern brands offer a variety of forms, thanks to which this element of the interior can be a single accent or a unique composition.

The mirror can be:

• six- and eight-sided;

• to look like a window, carried out in an identical frame using the same material and design;
• present an unusual asymmetrical composition in the form of a branch with small round inserts;
• make a kind of mirror gallery of pear-shaped models, varieties with the outline of a toilet mirror with a handle or the sun.

The unusual shape allows you to add the right atmosphere to the interior. Mirrors can be made in the form of fans, fluttering butterflies and birds, autumn leaves, puzzles, animal silhouettes. These products do not have a frame: clear edge contours are important.

The form decorated with a baguette looks interesting. So the mirror sheet acquires a certain theme and the necessary design elements that are important in drawing up an interior ensemble.

The dimensions of the mirrors depend on the specific model. Models are small, medium-medium, large and extra voluminous. Modern trademarks engaged in the production of mirror products set their own parameters for the size of mirrors, so today there are no clear standards. However, you can start from the classification of models.

Dimensions:

• pocket options are approximately 7x5, 9x6 cm;
• handbag products are close to 6-9 cm marks in round varieties, 7x5, 9x9 cm are rectangular;
• diameter of hand-held mirrors is about 6.5-15 cm, for rectangular variants it ranges from 6.5x7 cm to 15.5x20 cm;
• road products range from 6x10 to 10x15 cm;
• shaving accessories close to the 13x13 cm mark in rectangular models and 10-13 cm in round counterparts;
• wall models range from 20x40 to 100x125 cm if it is a rectangle and 30-65 if it is round;
• desktop, divided into small and medium versions, range from 8 to 20 for round models and 9x13 - 35x40 cm for rectangular counterparts.

Models reaching a height of 10 dm and more can have different shapes: in some cases, the products are a classic rectangle upward, in others, the mirror is positioned perpendicular to the floor. Some varieties are bought on the floor in order to visually increase the space: a large mirror of this type can double the available area.

The color range of mirrors is multifaceted. Thanks to the wide range of varieties presented on the modern market, it will not be difficult to choose a model to match the existing environment.

The color is determined by the frame, which today is represented by a mass of shades. Natural wood tones are among the most popular today.... This group includes shades of light and dark wenge oak, sonoma tones, alder, cherry, taupe and brick colors of the palette.

In addition to the natural classics, the current color is white: due to the shade, such frames successfully fit into modern design trends, the style of rustic Provence, vintage and country. Classic favorites are gold, silver and bronze tones.
