Views

Despite the fact that these mirrors are based on two parts (glass with amalgam and a frame), There are a lot of varieties of floor mirrors:

  • Mirror with light bulbs around the perimeter, which is used in the make-up rooms of theater, cinema and circus artists.
  • A folding mirror allows you to see your own reflection from several angles at once.
  • The portable has special parts for easy movement to any part of the room.
  • The swivel floor design allows you to easily change the slope for a close examination of the details of clothing and body, this design is called "psiche".
  • Mirror-box. A beautifully made drawer, the front wall of which is floor-sized and opens the back with many compartments for storing all kinds of useful and useless expensive things.

There are other types of sandblasting patterns on the glass surface, the same patterns can be done on amalgam, creating a deep image effect. Glasses are cut in the form of shapes - oval, rectangle and other geometry. There are technologies for cutting mirror glass of complex configuration.

The surface can also be decorated with colored drawings, various stickers made of plastic, glass mosaics. Often decorated with ceramics and metal, combinations of several canvases of other shades are made. Often, floor mirrors are complemented by original lighting.

Dimensions (edit)

The philosophy and teachings of Feng Shui presuppose the presence of such paintings in all living quarters of the house and preferably a floor type. A person should see his reflection in full growth and there should be no upper cut of the reflection. There should be space above the head in the reflection, which, according to feng shui, makes it possible not to limit the inner growth of the personality of a person who looks at himself in the mirror.

The mirror must be large, domestic manufacturers make it about 170 cm in size. Most often it is a tall oval model. Other options are possible, it depends on the physical data of adults, and on the capabilities of the living quarters of a house or apartment. And the geometric shapes of the floor version are selected in accordance with the overall interior.

Materials (edit)

The quality of the reflection largely depends on the materials of glass and amalgam, and the main element that gives beauty to the entire mirror is the frame. The most common type of floor mirror continues to be mirrored glass placed in a wooden frame. Wood in such a frame can be presented in simple and complex carvings, with a gilded and silver plated finish. A frame carved from solid wood is especially expensive, then you can make carvings on all kinds of plots, including fabulous ones.

A mirror in a forged metal frame is also expensive. There are options for using a leather mirror frame made of quality genuine leather.

Colors

The color scheme of mirrors cannot be divided only into black and white. It all depends on the style and overall design of the living room. The reflective surface of the mirror has its own half-tones, which in general do not affect its main function, but the color of the frame and its design determine the overall impression of the valuable object of our everyday life.

The color finish of the frame also matters. It is brought under the finishing of the floor or walls and under the furniture set. So, for a living room with parquet, a canvas in a wooden frame of a similar color is well suited. For a bathroom, a white frame is the best option, and a large mirror with a black frame is suitable for a bedroom with strict contrasting lines.

Support

Floor mirrors must be stable in their working position so as not to be in danger of being broken. This mainly applies to those homes where there are children, and adults can create a dangerous environment. The task of the stable position of the mirrors is performed by the stands. A mirror in a frame and on a stand is a complete piece of furniture that matches the chosen design and style.

Stands on legs look the most elegant, even pretentious, especially in antique versions. Sometimes the support is made on a special stand, which looks like a drawer, a cabinet, a beautifully designed massive board. To make it easier to move a massive mirror sheet in a heavy frame, the legs of the support are made on wheels.

Various styles

Floor mirrors, like other home furnishings, can be presented in numerous styles from different eras and countries.

Four directions are most often repeated:

  • Execution in the Provence style delights with lightness, pastel beauty. Such a mirror is large in size and weight, but it seems almost weightless, airy. Of course, such a creation will cheer up people of any age;
  • Antique or "semi-antique" supports the style of the past years, as a reminder of the fast flowing human years and the longevity of art.
  • Antique amazes with human abilities to make a polysyllabic and beautiful work of art out of a mirror frame.
  • A loft-style mirror is supposed to liven up a somewhat simplistic living environment, but it serves mainly a working function.

Selection Tips

Mirrors affect the formation of the image of a separate room or the whole house, therefore, the issue of their choice must be approached very responsibly. Dimensions, shape, material, construction and design should become the main selection criteria along with the performance of basic functions. People with a craving for creativity can sometimes make floor mirrors with their own hands, combining their functions and designs with a clothes hanger, drawers and sections for storing accessories.

Particular attention must be paid to safety when buying and installing a baby mirror, for this there are a number of techniques to limit the safe distance from the baby to the mirror surface. When purchasing a mirror for girls and for a girl, you need to take care of placing a section for storing accessories in front of it or behind it, or put a mirror-box with a compartment for jewelry, which are always quickly recruited and fill all the shelves and compartments.

It is possible for a girl and a woman to put a swivel structure with shelves in the back and with lamps around the entire perimeter or part of it. Mirror canvases can be enclosed in a luxurious baroque baguette set on sturdy legs with castors. When choosing expensive floor mirrors, you need to listen to the advice of designers and read reviews, because such purchases can affect the family's budget. But beauty requires sacrifices, including financial ones.

How to place?

It is very appropriate to place a luxurious floor mirror in the bathroom. It will be a great creative solution in both functional and design sense. To preserve its properties in high humidity conditions, the surface is covered with a special anti-fog film. There are models with a built-in heating system. Of course, such mirrors with additional moisture protection elements are much more expensive than simple options, but their service life while maintaining the main properties is more significant.

When placing in the bedroom, you must adhere to certain recommendations:

  • A large mirror can be placed above the bed headboard as a decorative element. There will be no discomfort in this case, but you will not be able to look at yourself in full growth and try on outfits.
  • Attachment to an empty wall. Here the kit fully fulfills its purpose. In this position, the mirror allows the hostess to fully appreciate her appearance and gives the bedroom more convenience and beauty.
  • For small bedrooms, where there is no room for large canvases, the side wall of the wardrobe is used. The comfort is somewhat less, but the functionality remains.
  • You can hang the mirror sheet on the door, without forgetting to install the opening limiter. When the door is open, the canvas is not visible, which suits the adherents of feng shui, who are against any mirrors in the bedroom. With the door closed, you can always look at yourself in any form.
  • When placed over the dressing table, there is no longer the need to purchase a trellis or dressing table, it is enough to put a small bedside table in front of a large canvas. Everything fits easily with the overall design of the bedroom.

Feng Shui advises not to put a mirror opposite the front door in the hallway, in this position it reflects positive energy and does not let it into the house. In order for positive energy to be directed into the home, the canvas must be positioned so that the corridor and the doors of the rooms are reflected in it.

In the living room, it is advised to place the floor mirror at a right angle. to the window opening, if there is a pleasant landscape outside the window. The effect of being in the space outside the window should not be overshadowed by the reflection of the landfill and other unaesthetic pictures. It is desirable that favorable events and a beautiful landscape be reflected in the mirror. In a youth room and perhaps in a fitting room, you can get by with a loft style, where the main focus will be on your own reflection and, to a lesser extent, on the interior and design of the room.

Make-up mirror has its own specifics, it must reflect a strongly illuminated object, face, costume details, general image.

There are several types of dressing mirrors:

  • Illuminated mirror sheet.
  • Floor dressing mirror.
  • Make-up tables with mirrors.
  • Table dressing canvases.
  • Makeup kits.

A bit of a mirror story

In ancient times, reflective surfaces were obtained by polishing flat stones. Later, metal began to be used - bronze and iron, silver, brass and gold. Excellent reflective surfaces were obtained by grinding and polishing. True, such items later dimmed and became unusable.

The first glass mirrors were made in the middle of the 13th century, but they turned out to be concave due to the technology of their production. Vessels were blown out of glass, molten tin was poured into it, then the cooled glass was cut or skillfully broken into pieces. The reflection was good, but still distorted.

At the beginning of the 16th century, French craftsmen covered flat glasses with mercury and glued tin foil on top. This technology was further developed when Venetian merchants managed to bring French craftsmen to the island of Murano, near Venice. Such products cost more than the paintings of the great Raphael.

Modern technologies use silver or aluminum to create mirrors. For amalgam, prepare a mirror or phenolic composition, acrylic paints. Sometimes they use chrome or gold.

The main film, which gives reflection, is distinguished in the following ways:

  • Chemical - in this case, the metal is released from the salt solution;
  • Physical - the metal is melted and sprayed or applied by evaporation in a vacuum at high temperatures.

Glass for mirrors is made using special technologies that provide for its distribution by grade and purpose.

Interior options

Floor and other canvases in decorative use make the interior beautiful and even more meaningful.

There are many options for this application:

  • Re-reflection can be used very carefully so as not to create additional psychological stress. Use asymmetry.
  • Light scattering. Subdued light, matt amalgam, polished metal accessories. Ideal for Art Nouveau interiors.
  • Broken reflections and a distorting mirror in the interior. Put a small gallery of crooked mirrors of the same size in the corridor, and any person's mood will rise.
  • The luxurious look of houseplants will be enhanced by a mirror attached to the shelf with flowers and houseplants.
  • Sconces, floor lamps and mirrors with a narrow strip behind them give the room the effect of solemnity.
  • A mirrored wardrobe helps to transform a small room.
  • For a children's room, you can make contour mirrors depicting cartoon characters.
  • Mirrors and fireplaces. You can decorate the wall of a false fireplace with mirrors in recessed contours with candles in front of them. Reflection of light will give the effect of a fireplace flame.
