At present, laser meters (rangefinders) have replaced conventional measuring instruments - rulers, tape measures, etc. These are compact and convenient devices that do not require special skills to use them. This article tells about the devices manufactured by the Chinese company ADA INSTRUMENTS.

Purpose and principle of operation

Laser distance meters are designed for remote measurement of distances. This is an indispensable tool for construction and repair work, design, geodetic calculations, etc. These devices, depending on the principle of operation, are divided into phase and pulse. The first type of devices works like this: for a short time, an object is illuminated with different modulations of the radiation frequency and, according to the phase shift, the distance is calculated. They do not provide a timer for the return of the reflected light signal, so their cost is lower, but the measurement range is also shorter (up to about 1000 m). They are mainly used in everyday life or as rifle scopes.

Pulse laser rangefinders consist of a pulsed laser source and a detector. Determine the distance to the object by measuring the time spent by the light beam on the way to the object and back. They are distinguished by high indicators of measurement range and are often used in military equipment.

Model characteristics

A set of computational functions is also included in the ADA laser rangefinder software. The standard set includes functions for determining the area, volume of measured objects, as well as indirect calculations according to the Pythagorean theorem. The casing of all models is made of impact-resistant plastic with rubber pads for a comfortable hand grip, which also provides IP54 protection against dust and moisture getting inside the device. Many rangefinders are also equipped with a tracking function - continuous measurement.

The data given in the table are for informational purposes only, the manufacturer can at any time decide to change the parameters, modify or complete the products. As can be seen from the summary data, the ADA models do not have significant differences between themselves, mainly the changes relate to the measurement distance.The Mini line has a slightly higher measurement error than the Cosmo and Robot, but all models are distinguished by high measurement accuracy - the error (maximum 3 mm) in relation to the measured distance is ten thousandths of a percent.

When choosing a suitable model, focus on the place of application of this device: for household purposes, for example, repair work in your own house, you will have enough devices with a maximum measuring range of 30 - 40 m.If you are a professional builder, then you should fork out for the ADA Cosmo 150 Video A00475 model ...

Recommendations for use

Handle the device with care, do not drop, throw it or hit it on hard surfaces. Although it is protected from moisture, you should not bathe it or leave it on a vibrating surface. Observe the recommended ranges of use of the device, do not expose the device to high temperatures or an aggressive environment (especially with regard to the content of explosive substances in the air).

Do not blind yourself or other living beings with a beam of coherent radiation. Although the laser power is low, it can harm the retina. Self-opening of the device and its modification or repair by hand is not recommended, as well as erasing the indicative / warning labels - all this will deprive you of warranty service in case of malfunctions.

When using the device, the following malfunctions may appear:

  • deformation of the body;
  • the device does not respond to pressing the power button;
  • complete absence or partial decrease in the brightness of the laser source;
  • the plane got off.

If you find any, entrust the adjustment and repair to qualified specialists.

In the next video you will find an overview of the ADA Cosmo laser rangefinder line.
