Toilets Biolan, peat and dry Simplett, compost Eco and Komplet, with a ventilation system and other models have gained popularity among Russian owners of suburban areas. With their help, any building can be equipped with a modern bathroom that meets European environmental safety standards.

Finnish dry closets for a summer residence and a cottage exclude the ingress of toxic waste into the soil, guarantee the complete absence of unpleasant odors and insects in the house.

Peculiarities

Biolan toilets for summer cottages and cottages from a well-known Finnish manufacturer radically change the usual idea of bathrooms in a country house. In Scandinavian countries, the availability of water or electricity in suburban real estate is not required. Many cottage owners prefer to completely abandon the benefits of civilization in nature, but at the same time, Finland has strict laws regarding the disposal of biological waste. In this case, the only reasonable solution is to install a dry closet that does not consume energy resources or reduces their costs to a minimum.

Peat cleaning systems ensure complete absence of unpleasant odors, environmental friendliness and safety of waste. The design provides for the presence of a special tray with free-flowing filler. After each use, peat is poured into a container with waste, gradually forming a dense compost layer, while the sewage remains dry, moisture is absorbed.

By the type of their design, such dry closets are single-chamber and two-chamber, with the separation of liquids and solid fractions.

An important feature of Biolan toilets is ventilation. The pipe connects to the storage of the dry chamber, ensuring the correct composting of the waste. If the tank for sewage is too large, the connection can be carried out using additional aeration pipes. The frequency of emptying the drives varies from 1 to 2 times a month, depending on the number of users.

The Finnish brand's product range includes more than just peat toilets. Models with different waste disposal methods are provided for cottages and holiday cottages. For example, an innovative version with a freezing system or a container with a combustion chamber.

Types and models

The Finnish company Biolan produces several product lines at once, orienting it to the widest possible range of consumers. There are classic peat options with a storage capacity of 56 or 100 liters, with a ventilation system, and models with dividers. Some of them require or do without a drain hose connection.

There are several popular models.

  • Dry with separator. A model of a dry closet, outwardly almost no different from a classic toilet. At the bottom there are 2 tanks for sewage, the tank above the structure, instead of flushing, dispenses peat. You can use such a dry closet only from a sitting position, otherwise the operation of the separation system will be disrupted.

  • Komplet. The simplest version of a dry toilet, which does not require the connection of communications - you only need an outlet for the ventilation pipe. The tank can be placed in a street house or in an indoor bathroom by placing it directly on the floor. After each use, the Biolan peat-based mixture is manually poured into the interior. For easy emptying of the tank, the design provides for wheels and comfortable handles.
  • Simplett peaty and dry. Model with waste separator into different fractions. Well suited for installation inside a country house. The solid waste container has a convenient emptying system. The appearance of the toilet bowl allows you to equip a modern bathroom in a cottage of any size. This is one of the most popular models of dry closets both in Finland and abroad.
  • Eco compostable. The optimal solution for a summer cottage. The compost bin of 200 liters ensures easy disposal of not only sewage, but also biodegradable kitchen waste. The tank is thermally insulated, suitable for outdoor installation. It is a simple solution that requires no effort to install and operate.
  • Icelett. The original version for home use. A toilet of this type requires a mandatory connection to a power source. Sewage is frozen upon receipt, then easily disposed of. By maintaining a temperature of -15 degrees Celsius in the tank, biological decomposition processes that cause an unpleasant odor do not occur, you can do without connecting standard ventilation.
  • Cinderella. A non-standard Finnish solution is a dry closet that burns waste on its own. Instead of draining fluids or arranging a ventilation system, all its maintenance is reduced to periodic ash removal. The combustion chamber is electric by default, but there are models that run on gas fuel.
  • Populett. Additional storage tank for 200 l, installed outside the walls of the house. Can be used to collect or separate filtrate. The tank is made of durable and hygienic plastic, frost-resistant, withstands significant operational loads.
  • Urinal Biolan. The best option for an outdoor toilet for men, made of durable plastic. The pipes are led into a special storage tank or directly into a composter. The ventilation system eliminates the potential for unpleasant odors. The system does not require the laying of a separate sewerage system, connection to the water supply.

Not all products of the Finnish brand are equally available in different countries of the world, but the distribution network is constantly growing, the products are becoming more affordable for consumers in Eastern Europe.

How to choose?

When choosing Biolan toilets, the manufacturer recommends paying attention to a number of fundamental points.

  1. The dimensions of the storage tank. The frequency of emptying depends on them. The largest ones are equipped with compost options.
  2. The number of users. Sometimes it is better to immediately plan the installation of not 1, but 2 or 3 dry closets.
  3. Installation method. Street models have a simpler design, usually do not provide for connection to communications. The interiors look more modern, they solve the problem of waste disposal in different ways.
  4. Difficulty to use. Some toilet models involve freezing or incineration of waste, which can create certain problems for the potential owner.
  5. The need to connect to communications. Some types of Biolan dry closets require a water or electricity supply.
  6. Seasonality of application. Toilets for outdoor use are divided into summer and winter.

These are the main parameters for selection. In addition, it is worth considering that peat toilet models provide compost that will be useful for gardeners and gardeners. For consumers who want to achieve urban comfort without compromising the environment, models with raw materials are suitable.

User manual

Installation and operation of the Biolan eco-friendly dry closet requires strict adherence to the instructions. The system does not require complex installation, connection to sewerage or water supply, you can choose any place in the house for placement. All that is needed is to bring out the ventilation pipe and drain connected to the toilet accumulator.

In the case of the peat-filled version, it is important to follow certain instructions.

  1. Before using the dry closet for its intended purpose, you need to cover its bottom with a layer of composter mixture 2 cm thick. The cistern above the toilet is filled with peat.
  2. The toilet can only be used while sitting. It is important to convey this to the guests, in addition, it is worth carefully choosing the size of the seat and the tank so that it is convenient to be on it.
  3. In a dry toilet, it is allowed to dispose of human waste, other biodegradable substances, including paper. Do not put garbage, hygiene products (pads, tampons), water or detergents, lime or other chemicals inside.
  4. After each use of the toilet for defecation, you must press the dispenser to release the required amount of peat.
  5. The liquid waste canister must be emptied periodically. When using the bathroom in a seasonal mode, placing it outside for the winter, the chambers are completely cleaned. This will prevent excessive pressure build-up when the plastic freezes.
  6. When cleaning the storage tanks, the pipe is disconnected. During operation, the first of them is rearranged after filling. Use the supplied lid for transfer to the emptying point. It is not necessary to wash the tanks. The required peat layer of 2 cm is necessarily poured into an empty storage tank.
  7. To remove sediment and plaque, once a year, the toilet structure is disassembled, rinsed from a hose, and cleaned using a soda solution. This will maintain the hygienic cleanliness of the product, guaranteeing the preservation of the plastic intact, without damage.

For waste from a dry toilet, a special composter-accumulator is installed on the site, in which the peat mixture undergoes final processing. This tank has a capacity of at least 200 liters, and the contents of the containers to be emptied are transferred into it. Before the transfer of sewage mixed with peat into the ground, at least 12 months must pass. Biolan has its own line of composters, including landscape models that can easily be disguised as the surrounding landscape.
