For heating the premises, many owners of country houses and summer cottages choose a fireplace stove. Such a device allows not only to achieve the desired temperature in the room, but also gives pleasure from admiring an open flame. Various materials can be used to create a fireplace stove. Consider the features of making models from cast iron.

Peculiarities

Externally, the fireplace stove is a rectangular (slightly elongated upward) structure, in the middle of which there is a firebox. At the bottom of the firebox there is a grate - a special grate on which firewood or other fuel is placed. There is an ash pan for collecting ash under the grate. In addition, the ash pan can be equipped with a damper, by adjusting the position of which you can change the intensity of combustion.

The combustion chamber is connected to the chimney, which, firstly, provides traction, and secondly, removes the combustion products from the room.

The operation of such a fireplace is based on the principle of pyrolysis., that is, the operation of the device is due to the energy of the pyrolysis gas formed as a result of the combustion of solid fuel (wood, coal).

Such furnaces are usually performed with a closed firebox, since the efficiency of such devices is higher than the efficiency of furnaces with an open firebox. For comparison: the first indicator reaches 80%, and the open-type device demonstrates only 5% efficiency.

The closed firebox has a glass door. It can be either an all-glass part, framed in profile, or a small "window" in a molded door. In any case, thick (6-8 mm) fire-resistant glass is used. Such a detail allows us to say that a cast-iron fireplace stove has not only a practical, but also an aesthetic function.

In addition, there are models equipped with a hob, which makes it possible to use them also for cooking and heating food.

The advantage of cast iron models is their strength, stability (such a structure will not roll over during operation), resistance to high temperatures and the absence of deformation. Cast iron has a high coefficient of thermal conductivity, due to which the heating of the room is carried out quite quickly. In addition, the material cools down for a long time, which then allows you to maintain a comfortable temperature in the house.

In addition to firewood and coal, branches, wood residues, pellets (compressed sawdust, waste from woodworking enterprises, as well as peat, sawdust, straw) can be used for kindling. In general, cast iron fireplace stoves are simple, and therefore rarely fail. They are easy to install, thanks in large part to the included chimneys. The only thing that is required is to provide thermal insulation of the flooring and walls with which the fireplace is in contact and near which it is installed.

During operation, cast iron stoves become hot, so the device must only function under human control to prevent fire. Cast iron is notable for its considerable weight - a stove made of it weighs on average 75-85 kg, which can create certain difficulties during transportation and installation of the device.

The functionality of cast iron furnaces is diverse, therefore, the following types are distinguished:

  • heating models, which are exclusively a device for heating the house (in the presence of a transparent door, the "potbelly stove" also performs a decorative function);
  • heating hobs equipped with a hob, and sometimes an oven;
  • ovens that have a reservoir for water and are used to heat it;
  • universal models that combine all the listed features.

Separately, one should highlight the furnace casting with a water circuit. Such a stove is connected to the heating radiators available in the house.

Thanks to this, it is possible to provide, through such a device, heating not one room, but the whole house. Outwardly, such a stove does not differ from similar cast-iron devices, except that it is equipped with a heat exchanger with a coil, through which the coolant (usually hot water) circulates.

If we talk about the location of the cast-iron fireplace stove in the interior, then there are several varieties.

  • Wall mounted. Installed along one of the walls, they can be located in living rooms, in the kitchen, as well as in the bathhouse, on a closed terrace.
  • Corner models. Thanks to their design features, they are installed in the corner, which saves usable space. Distinguished by ergonomics and compactness, corner structures are especially in demand in small spaces.
  • Island. Installed in the center of the room, they can have 2 translucent doors, but this reduces the efficiency of the device.

If the classification is based on the criterion of the type of fuel, then cast iron fireplaces are:

  • wood-burning;
  • coal;
  • pellet.

The former are distinguished by their larger dimensions, since the combustion part in them is more overall. Do not put fuel in the oven that is not intended for this device.

Finally, cast iron stoves differ in power ratings.

Design

Due to the peculiarities of the material (it does not differ in great plasticity), cast iron products cannot boast of a wide variety of shapes. Features of operation also leave an imprint on the design of the device.

As a rule, cast iron fireplace stoves are rectangular or cylindrical in shape. However, decorative elements - painting, fittings, turn the product into a real work of art.

These fireplaces are often designed in a retro style, which allows them to look harmoniously in similar interiors, as well as rooms in a "rustic" style.

The room can also have a modern design, then the stove is distinguished by a laconic design, the presence of a large glass door. Steel handles and other shiny surfaces make it possible to "fit" the structure into high-tech interiors.

Tips & Tricks

When buying a cast iron fireplace stove, make sure that it meets the basic requirements for devices of this type:

  • high rates of efficiency and thermal conductivity, which will guarantee rapid heating of the room;
  • high security;
  • ease of use.

If necessary, select a device equipped with additional options.

Due to the fact that such units work on the principle of convection (that is, heat energy is transferred to the room by streams), the room heats up quickly - on average, in 2-3 hours. In this case, it is important to choose the power of the device corresponding to the area of \ u200b \ u200bthe room.

If the latter is large (more than the capacity of the furnace), then the device will regularly operate at the limit of its functionality, which will lead to its rapid failure. In addition, such rooms will take longer to heat up.

Usually manufacturers indicate 2 indicators of furnace power - nominal and maximum. The first is measured after 3 hours from the start of warming up, the second - after 40 minutes.

For efficient convection, it is important that the oven is located in the center of the room. or at least was at a distance of 1.5-2 m from the wall. The only exceptions are corner models, which are installed almost close to the walls.

If the oven is equipped with air ducts, it is better to place it near doors or stairs. This will ensure the circulation of warm air masses throughout the house.

For the operation of the stove, an insulated chimney is required, installed in accordance with fire safety requirements.The chimney supplied with the furnace is connected to it. The latter must have a height of at least 3 m to obtain traction. In the future, it is necessary to clean the chimney once a year. If the oven is operated irregularly, it can be done a little less often - once every one and a half to two years.

The presence of a special shutter with a cable and a shutter of the lower pan in the oven will allow the oven to heat up more and, accordingly, heat the room more intensively and faster.

Cast iron does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature, which can cause it to crack. In this regard, it is not recommended to use it in unheated rooms that are rarely used (for example, at a dacha, where you rarely come in winter).

Manufacturers

Today you can purchase models of Russian and foreign production. Let's consider the most popular ones.

The company's products are trusted by customers Eurokom (Poland), especially the "Ambra" model... It is distinguished by its durability (service life - 10 years) and practicality. In addition to the heating function, the oven has a hob.

The power of the unit (which is 7 kW) is enough to heat rooms up to 7 m2. It is distinguished by its compact dimensions (width is 48 cm, depth is 36 cm with a product height of 84 cm), therefore it is suitable even for small rooms.

The presence of a spacious ash pan facilitates the operation of the device. The fireplace stove has an attractive design in a retro style. Original patterns, noble patina - all this makes the device a worthy interior decoration. It is important that the model is notable for its affordability, its cost ranges from 20,000 to 25,000 rubles.

The Crown JA010 oven is also of interest. from the Chinese manufacturer of the same name. Its main feature is mobility, the ability to move the oven to another place if necessary. This product is even smaller in comparison with Polish counterparts. The parameters of the Chinese oven are 438-387-627 mm, the power is 6 kW. The design is again made in a retro style. The device has bent legs, original patterns and a stylish furnace door handle. The average price is 15,000 rubles.

Russian manufacturers are not inferior to their European counterparts in terms of the quality of their products. An example of this is oven "Bavaria" from the domestic brand "Ekokamin"... The product meets European quality and safety requirements. Thanks to its high thermal efficiency and 9 kW power, the stove quickly heats up a room with an area of up to 90 m2.

The device can be safely attributed to the "smart" category, since it has a firewood saving mode, a special glass cleaning mode. Practicality and multifunctionality are also the advantages of the model. It is equipped with a hob, so it not only heats and decorates the room, but also serves for cooking.

A distinctive feature of the design is a stylish glass door, side panels cladding with thermal insulation tiles. The cost of the model is from 17,000 to 20,000 rubles.

Another manufacturer with a high consumer rating is company "Meta" (Russia)... The products are made of high quality French cast iron, almost all components are of European origin. This allows you to create high quality and durable products. Such as fireplace stove "Marseille".

The device is intended for heating large (up to 140 m2) rooms, since it is characterized by a power of 14 kW.

The combustion process is more efficient, since the firewood is stacked vertically in the combustion chamber. This leads to the elongated shape of the device (furnaces of the same brands "Narva" and "Okhta" with hob). High thermal efficiency, reliability and attractive appearance have led to the higher cost of the device. The average price is 45,000 - 50,000 rubles.

If you are looking for a compact corner fireplace, take a look at model "Brandenburg" by "Jarstal"... Power of 9 kW, as well as the ability to connect to a warm floor, guarantee high-quality operation of the device. It has a modern design - the presence of tiles with imitation stone on the side panels makes the unit elegant and respectable.

Products have positive reviews Jotul (Norway), as well as Italian La Nordica ovens.
