An amazing German variety called Wendella has gained popularity in many countries, including Russia. This is an elite rose that belongs to the hybrid tea group. The delicate color of flowers is considered the personification of purity, tenderness and sincere love. Now this species is actively grown in Ecuador, from where the flowers are delivered to different countries for sale.

Description of the variety

The hybrid tea rose can be grown for cutting. Also, the variety is perfect for both group and single plantings. The color of the buds is white, with a slight yellow tint (ivory). After opening, the petals become creamy, while the main color of the flower remains white. The color is pale. The shape of the buds is ovoid and pointed, slightly elongated. The center of the flower is high. The sizes are large, the diameter is 10 centimeters. The number of petals varies from 30 to 35. The type of roses is medium-double. A green edging is often visible at the edges of the petals.

Flowers are located one by one, only one bud grows on each stem. The scent is faint, but pleasant and sensual.

Shrubs are erect, reaching a height of 65 to 90 centimeters. They grow up to 80 centimeters wide. Bushes are considered compact. Despite the fragile appearance, the shoots of the rose are quite strong and durable, with a minimum number of thorns.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main positive qualities of the Wendella variety are as follows:

  • abundant and repeated flowering;
  • excellent decorative qualities of buds and opened flowers;
  • a small number of thorns, which makes it easier to care for the plant;
  • the possibility of using this type for landscaping or cutting.

As disadvantages, experienced gardeners note the insufficient resistance of the rose to heavy precipitation and fungal infections.

Flowering features

The bushes begin to bloom from the first days of July and this process continues until September. With proper care and cultivation in suitable conditions, the intensity will be abundant. Repeated flowering. The blossoming buds retain their charming appearance for 2.5-3 weeks, after which they fade. The duration of flowering also depends on the weather conditions in the region.

Use in landscape design

Due to its high decorative qualities, the Wendella variety has found its application in landscape design. Pleasantly colored buds often decorate halls for special occasions. Professional designers choose ivory roses when making bridal bouquets and other floral arrangements.

As a single planting or in combination with other varieties, this species will look advantageous. A pleasant color will be effective against a background of red or burgundy roses. Cut flowers calmly retain their attractiveness for up to two weeks, delighting not only with their delicate color and expressive shape, but also with a pleasant aroma.

Landing

Before planting this variety, you must select a suitable site. The health of the bushes and their appearance depends on this. The main requirement is that the area must be well lit. Many roses, including the Wendell variety, love natural sunlight.The site must be reliably protected from drafts and strong winds.

You should also pay attention to the acid-base reaction. The best indicator is neutral reaction. The soil should be loose, light and nutritious. To improve the condition of the soil, it is fed with nutrients, including organic matter. Before planting, a drainage layer must be laid on the bottom of each pit.

The recommended time for planting rose bushes is the second decade of May. At this time of the year, frosts completely recede and stable warm weather sets in. Also, by May, the ground will warm up enough. The second suitable date is from August to November.

Growing and caring

The Dutch rose Wendella does not have any special requirements for the soil, but this variety grows best in loamy soil with neutral to low acidity. If the acid-base reaction is high, the bushes will not be able to grow, develop and bloom normally. Such land is most often found in wetlands. Stagnant moisture is detrimental to the root system of plants. A high pH value negatively affects the ability of roses to absorb beneficial components.

Rocky or sandy soil will not work for a rose. When growing flowers in flowerpots or flower beds, you can use ready-made soil mixture, which is sold at any gardening store. To enrich heavy soil, peat, manure, rotted compost or bird droppings are mixed into it.

Caring for the above variety practically does not differ from the standard agricultural technology used when growing hybrid tea roses. About once every 7 days, the planting is carefully checked for diseases and traces of attacks by harmful insects. Roses are watered regularly, but measuredly, twice a week is enough. The intensity of irrigation is changed taking into account weather conditions and precipitation.

Before watering, the site is dug up so that the water is absorbed faster. The soil around the bush is covered with wood ash mulch. Weeds on the site are immediately removed, preventing them from growing. Also, roses are periodically pruned to get rid of damaged shoots and give the bush an attractive shape.

Pruning

To maintain the high decorative qualities of the plant, cosmetic pruning is performed. As a rule, the work is done in the summer. In spring and autumn, pruning is also carried out, but now it is sanitary. In these seasons, they get rid of dry, sick, broken and frozen shoots. In the spring, it is important to have time to prune before the first buds open. During work, a sharp and disinfected tool should be used to avoid contamination.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

The variety from Holland Wendella is frost-resistant and is able to withstand prolonged frosts down to -23 degrees Celsius. In many Russian regions, with the arrival of winter, thermometer columns fall below this mark, so the planting should be protected from frost. The bushes are covered with peat, on top of which a non-woven fabric is laid. Rose frost resistance zone - 6.
