Roses of the hybrid tea group are very often found in private plots and in rose gardens. Large, beautiful, cold-resistant flowers perfectly decorate any planting area. The Vanilla Freise variety, which belongs to tea hybrids, has all the characteristics stated above, it will be an excellent choice for both a beginner and a professional rose grower.

Breeding history of the variety

The flower with the "tasty" name Vanilla Freise was developed and bred in France. The author of the hybrid is Robert Laperriere. The variety has been known since 2008, and its name is translated from French as “vanilla strawberry”. There are other names of the culture - Vanille Fraise, LAPvanil Vanilla Fraise, Lapvanil, Strawberry Ice Cream, Strawberry Vanilla.

Description of the variety

It is worth starting a story about a variety with the appearance of a bush:

  • perennial, branched, decorative subspecies, characterized by rapid growth;

  • shoots are flexible and strong, slightly drooping;

  • the average height of the bushes is 2.5-3 meters, but in width they grow up to one and a half meters;

  • there are many leaves, they are characterized by a glossy surface and a dark green color scheme.

The flowers that form on the bushes have the following features:

  • two-tone color - a red base tone interspersed with yellow stripes;

  • brightness and richness of shades, variegation pleasing to the eye;

  • classic shape and large size (10-11 centimeters in diameter);

  • belonging to the densely double type (up to 50 petals);

  • medium strength aroma in which fruits are felt.

Roses on bushes are formed in different ways. One stem can contain either 1 flower or as many as 3.

Advantages and disadvantages

Hybrid tea rose Vanilla Freise has such advantages as fast growth, simple care requirements, beautiful flowers with an unobtrusive aroma. The plant is frost-hardy, hardy, can adapt to different conditions. However, its resistance to precipitation and some fungal diseases raises questions.

Flowering features

Vanilla Fraze blooms slowly. The buds bloom gradually, but even when closed, they provide the bushes with a high decorative effect. As a rule, the flowering process begins from the first summer month. The rose blooms intermittently, usually in two or three waves. With cold snaps, the bush stops forming new flowers.

Use in landscape design

The described variety of hybrid tea rose is very famous among landscape designers, and it is familiar to ordinary summer residents. You can use it in different ways:

  • as a standard form;

  • in single landings;

  • in group plantings (groups can consist of either one of this variety or be diluted with other flowers, as well as conifers);

  • as framing borders;

  • as an element of a hedge, decorating gazebos, pergolas, terraces, various arches.

You can also cut these roses. But it is better to do this while the buds have not yet blossomed. They will open for a long time, which means they will be able to stand up to 10-14 days.

Growing regions

Vanilla Fraze grows very well in areas with mild and warm climates.Such a flower is suitable for residents of the Central region, the southern territories of the country. In the northern zones, the winter hardiness of the flower may not be enough for a comfortable existence in the winter.

Landing

Unlike many other varieties of roses, Vanilla Fraz practically does not fade in the sun. She needs a lot of it, so the site should be open and fully accessible to direct light. Particular attention is paid to the soil. It is important that it is lightweight soil with good moisture permeability. The soil is pre-enriched with organic matter to increase fertility.

In most regions, summer residents land in April, closer to the middle of the month. But if the climate is very warm, and winters in the region are always mild, then you can plant it in autumn. During the spring planting, the holes for the rose are fertilized with nitroammophos, and if the autumn option is chosen, then it is worth putting superphosphate.

The dug holes must be supplemented with a drainage layer, its height should be at least 10 cm. The seedling soaked in a growth stimulator is added carefully, with constant compaction of the soil. It is worth planting in watered ground, remembering that the grafting area should hide in the soil by 5 centimeters. After finishing planting, the near-trunk circle is re-irrigated, and a 10-day shelter from ultraviolet radiation is erected above the plant.

Growing and care

Vanilla Freise is a simple flower in agricultural technology. But you should study the features of caring for him in advance.

  • Moisturizing. It is enough to bring water under the bushes once a week; in hot weather, you can do this more often, focusing on the condition of the soil. If the weather is cloudy, you can choose any time of the day for watering, even the middle of the day; in other cases, water in the evening. All irrigation is carried out under the root and water heated during the day.

  • Loosening. Watering forms a strong crust on the ground, it must be broken with garden tools. The procedure provides a quick passage of air to the roots. You can't go deep, just superficial fluffing is enough.

  • Mulching. Soil moisture can be maintained at a good level by mulching the flower. It is recommended to choose an organic mulch. If you ignore this point, Vanilla Fraze's trunk circles will have to be weeded often.

  • Fertilizer. Rose bushes look more decorative and spectacular if the gardener takes care of feeding. For the described variety, organic components will be most useful. So, in the spring months, it is customary to feed this rose with mullein or bird droppings diluted in water. In summer, it is better to prefer wood ash, just dust the soil with it.

  • Support creation. The hybrid tea variety branches very well, and the bushes are very tall. Therefore, plant supports are installed at the time of planting.

  • Pruning. To give the bushes a beautiful shape, gardeners carry out shaping pruning. They are carried out either at the beginning of the growing season or before leaving for winter dormancy. It is advisable to combine shaping haircuts with sanitary ones. In the summer, you do not need to trim, but it is worth ripping off the inflorescences that have fallen into disrepair in time.

  • Preparation for wintering. Vanilla Fraze has a high resistance to cold weather, but you still need to take care of the shelter. In the south, this is minimal preparation: laying mulch, bending down shoots, throwing spruce branches. In anticipation of a snowless and cold winter, gardeners will organize a polyethylene covering system.

Diseases and pests

Rose Vanilla Fraz belongs to modern breeding, which means that there is every reason to talk about good immunity. According to the assurances of gardeners, the bushes perfectly resist rust and many other diseases of roses. Pests rarely start on them, and if they do appear, then in small quantities. An attentive summer resident will suppress the problem even in the bud.

However, Vanilla Fraze's resistance to powdery mildew and black spot could be even higher. Therefore, in order to prevent an epidemic on the site, it is highly recommended to carry out early spring prophylactic spraying with Bordeaux liquid, vitriol or purchased fungicidal preparations.
