Hybrid tea roses, created by German scientists, have become popular for a long time. This is due to the fact that the varieties are unpretentious, quickly adapt to growing conditions, bloom profusely and for a long time, raising the mood with their beauty. These are the qualities that the rose with the unusual name Gospel is endowed with.

Breeding history of the variety

The Gospel rose was bred in 1997 by German breeders on the basis of the famous Tantau nursery. The author of the pink variety is Hans Jürgen Ewers. Recommended for growing pink in regions where the temperature does not drop below -24 degrees in winter. Often this is the Central region of the Russian Federation, as well as the southern part of the country.

Description of the variety

The hybrid tea flower is a compact upright bush that grows up to 90 cm high. The rose bush is characterized by strong branching, strong shoots, abundantly covered with sharp spines, moderate thickening with gray-green medium-sized leaves, as well as a developed rhizome that penetrates deep into the ground. The short shrub looks neat and compact - its diameter is only 40-45 cm.

On each thickened stem, from 1 to 5 buds are formed, firmly located both singly, and in inflorescences of 3-5 flowers.

Advantages and disadvantages

Each culture has a number of pros and cons. The advantages of a German rose include: the ability to change color under the influence of weather, sufficient frost resistance, good rain tolerance, in which rose petals do not stick together, strong immunity that protects against most fungal infections, moderate drought resistance, the ability to grow in greenhouse conditions, a pronounced aroma, abundant and long flowering (about 4 months). Disadvantages include some increased maintenance requirements, as well as susceptibility to drafts and cold winds.

Flowering features

Gospel roses belong to the category of profusely flowering varieties. Flowering begins in mid-June and ends in late September - early October. The buds bloom in steps, so the bush is always decoratively attractive. Firmly planted on fleshy stems, the buds are rounded. The color of the buds is uniform, maroon. Dissolving, it turns into a large rosette-shaped flower with a diameter of 10-11 cm.The dense double rose, the structure of which consists of 60-80 velvety petals, is endowed with a very unusual and incredibly beautiful color - from burgundy red, bright cherry to dark purple with reddish overflows. The color changes depending on the weather conditions. On cloudy days, the rose is deep burgundy, and in the sun it is dark purple. The aroma of the blossoming flowers is incredibly pronounced, in which there are honey, oriental and fruity notes.

Use in landscape design

Gospel roses are suitable for planting in single and group plantings. The rose looks great in the company of other hybrid tea varieties, as well as with fragrant herbs, dwarf conifers. The German rose will fit into any landscape solution.

Flowers are massively used to create hedges, flower beds, borders, mixborders. In addition, roses are suitable for cutting, as they stand in a vase for a long time, preserving their freshness, beauty and aroma.

Landing

The rose is planted mainly in spring - April-May. In the fall (October), cuttings are planted only in the southern regions. For planting, a place is chosen that is free from weeds, leveled, protected from gusty winds and drafts. Some gardeners recommend planting on a small hill, where there is a lot of light, heat, and sun. The flower is as comfortable as possible where there is sun in the morning and evening, and in partial shade at lunchtime, which will avoid burns of the petals.

The plant also has small requirements for the soil - its structure should be light, fluffy, breathable, moisturized, enriched with nutrients and non-acidic. In addition, good drainage and deep groundwater flow is recommended, as the roots of the shrubs go deep into the soil.

Growing and care

Growing requires healthy seedlings with a developed rhizome. Before planting in the ground, the root system of the cuttings is treated with a growth stimulator. On the site, holes are prepared with a depth of 50-60 and a width of 40 cm, where drainage from gravel, a layer of fertilizers mixed with earth are laid. After planting, the seedling is watered with warm water, the soil is tamped and light mulching with peat is performed. It is important to remember that the grafting site should be 1-2 cm higher than the soil. It is recommended to place no more than 4 seedlings per 1 m2.

Cultural agrotechnology consists of basic activities: watering, feeding, loosening, weeding, mulching of the peri-stem circle, sanitary pruning, prevention of diseases and insect infestations and shelter for the winter.

Watering and feeding

Water the roses every week with warm or settled water. The irrigation procedure is best done in the early morning or evening. One bush requires 15-20 liters of water. Watering stops at the end of August.

In order for roses to bloom profusely, you need to feed them on time. Nitrogen-containing complexes are introduced in early spring, and phosphorus-potassium complexes during the summer. Before winter, some growers apply mineral fertilizers.

Pruning

The rose needs pruning. Frozen shoots are removed in early spring and shortened. Autumn is the period of sanitary pruning, during which dry, diseased and damaged branches are removed, as well as thinning. During the summer, you need to remove wilted buds so that they do not interfere with the next blooming. Once every 3-4 years, rejuvenating pruning is recommended, in which all old shoots are removed, making it possible for the young to develop.

In addition, in the first year, it is recommended to prevent strong flowering of the shrub by cutting the buds before August to ensure abundant emergence of roses for the coming season.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

Shelter for the winter is a must. Plantings are insulated after the temperature drops to -7 degrees. A frame is erected over the trimmed bushes, onto which the covering material is pulled. In regions with warm winters, shelter with spruce branches is sufficient. In early spring, airing is performed, and then the covering material is completely removed.

Diseases and pests

The plant has a high immunity, providing moderate resistance to many infections, for example, powdery mildew, black spot. Roses get sick only in an unfavorable environment and in violation of agrotechnical rules. Very rarely, rose bushes can undergo bark necrosis, root rot, infectious burns and common cancer. More damage to rose bushes can be caused by pests - spider mites, rose leafworm and scale insects.

Reproduction

The pink variety is propagated by cuttings that you can prepare yourself. As a rule, they are harvested from young and strong bushes. The time after the first wave of flowering is considered optimal. The length of the handle should not exceed 20-35 cm.
