The very beautiful Epricot Skye rose is an Italian cultivar belonging to the climber, a type of climbing roses obtained by crossing hybrid tea and floribunda roses. The culture has other names: Apricot Sky, Apricot Sky. The variety was bred in Italy in 2003, the originator is Enrico Barni.

Description of the variety

The erect bush of the climbing rose Epricot Sky is distinguished by branching, it can reach a height of 180 to 250 centimeters. The leaves have a matte, traditional medium green hue. The flowers are large, rosette-shaped, 12 to 14 centimeters in diameter. They have the so-called old shape, the stamens are visible in the middle of the flower, sometimes they are quartered. The main color is peach, they are formed in inflorescences of 3-5 pieces, in the phase of complete dissolution they may fade a little. They belong to densely doubled, the number of petals varies from 50 to 55 pieces. The color of the rose is complex, it is a mix of apricot and light caramel tones.

Advantages and disadvantages

The rose has a lot of advantages. Considering belonging to climbers, Epricot Skye has rather strong shoots. Despite their thickness, they can be bent in any necessary direction, but only at the beginning of their growth. The culture is quite frost-resistant: according to the USDA classification, developed by the US Department of Agriculture, it belongs to the 6th zone of frost resistance, withstands temperatures from -18 ° C to -23 ° C.

And also the variety boasts resistance to major fungal diseases and pests, in particular, powdery mildew and black spot. This crop has very good rain resistance. Flowers behave well in bad weather, do not get wet. Epricot Skye roses have a rather delicate fruity aroma, which is characterized by low intensity.

Of the shortcomings, many note that it is difficult to lay the variety under cover in regions with frosty winters, since it is possible to break the whips. Some even cut the whips to prevent freezing of the bushes. And also bright flowers can fade in the sun, despite the fact that the culture loves the sun and it is recommended to plant it in a sunny area.

Flowering features

During the season, the flowering intensity of Epricot Skye is quite abundant. The variety belongs to the re-flowering roses.

Use in landscape design

The expected climbing rose Epricot Skye is used in vertical gardening on the site, in the garden. It looks great on any trellis around a gazebo or arch. This perennial decorative culture has classic-shaped flowers that have a fantastic beauty, which attracts landscape designers. Thin apricot satin petals form flowers that look spectacular against matte foliage.

Landing

Once the Epricot Sky planting material is prepared, it can be stored until planting at temperatures from zero to +2 degrees Celsius. It is better to plant a rose in sunny and calm places of the site or garden. The culture is demanding on the composition of the soil: the variety prefers slightly acidic and fertile, rich in humus, loamy, breathable and moisture-absorbing soil.

The optimal time for planting Epricot Skye roses is the end of spring. For this event, stable, comfortable, warm weather should be established.

Growing and caring

Care and cultivation features of the variety are simple, since it is unpretentious, winter-hardy and drought-resistant. A climbing rose certainly requires a support, be it a stand-alone object or just a wall or fence. Pruning of the plant will be a separate care item: for good growth, both light and formative, sanitary pruning are necessary.
