There are many pink roses. There are also many inspired by the work of Renaissance artists. Still, Botticelli's floribunda is an amazing variety and stands out among others.

Breeding history of the variety

The rose was bred by the French company Meilland in 2004. The variety has received numerous gold and silver awards at competitions in the Netherlands, Italy, France, Switzerland and Ireland.

Description of the variety

The bush is not tall, typical for floribunda - only 70-80 cm in height, sometimes the bush can reach 1 m. The bush is not too wide, but not narrow, almost spherical - up to 60-70 cm in diameter, well leafy. The leaves are dark or medium green, semi-matte - against their background, the flowers look especially delicate.

The flowers are large, up to 10 cm in diameter. Flowers of true pale pink color, without leaving coral or lilac. Sometimes a light warm undertone is read, towards the center the shade thickens, like a blush. The outer side of the petals is lighter and more delicate. Densely double, up to 55 petals, with a beautiful, dancing arrangement of rounded petals. The flowers are very feminine and springy. There is no fragrance.

Advantages and disadvantages

Pluses of the variety.

  1. Long and lush bloom.

  2. Flowers-pom-poms, very delicate colors.

  3. A healthy, compact bush.

  4. Hardworking and fast rose.

Cons of the variety:

  1. Lack of aroma.

Sometimes the banality of flowers is attributed to the minuses, but none of those who have seen the rose live considers it ordinary. The splendor, the laying of the petals, the arrangement of flowers in the inflorescences, the delicate spring foliage and the plant's resistance to weather conditions - all this together creates a more memorable image than can be seen in the photo or in verbal descriptions. Spherical, ruddy rose flowers look just huge on a small bush. In the garden, the Botticelli rose bush looks better than peonies, it is just as lush, but incomparably more graceful.

Flowering features

Abundant flowering, very long, the bush is in flowers all the time. 1 branch can have from 2 to 15 flowers. Good branching, buds are not crowded, each shoot looks like a finished bouquet.

Use in landscape design

The Botticelli variety is versatile. The rose looks great as a single bush - it has an almost spherical shape, densely covered with flowers. The rose is beautiful and solemn in the borders. Suitable for growing with a stem and is excellent in cutting. It goes well with white, pink and peach roses, with other silver, white, pink, lingonberry or lilac colors. It grows without problems in a container culture, suffers frequent transplants.

Landing

For landing, choose a place with an abundance of bright, preferably diffused light. The cultivar can tolerate light shading. Western and eastern wall spots are fine. The soil should be loose, nutritious, well-drying, but not empty - sandy soils are abundantly fertilized with compost, and clay soils are even carried out on too sandy to increase the capacity of the soil. For 1 sq. m 3-5 Botticelli roses are planted.

The variety is undemanding to planting dates. But the best time is May-June, but planting is also possible in autumn - in September-October. It is important that the roses have time to take root before the onset of frost.Roses with a closed root system are more plastic - they are planted at any time of the year.

Growing and caring

The variety is unpretentious, you can use the average agricultural technique for floribunda roses. They love watering as needed, feeding and pruning regularly.

Watering and feeding

Water so that the soil under the rose does not dry out, but does not get wet either. The usual watering frequency is 1 bucket of water per bush once a week. In the heat, watered more often. Water volumes vary depending on the season. The most actively consumed rose water when they grow foliage, lay and dissolve buds. By the end of summer, the volume of water is reduced, gradually preparing it for winter. Stop completely by September. Do not forget that most garden roses are derived from evergreen roses and have the properties of polyanthus plants. That is, they can grow and bloom all year round in suitable conditions. With intensive autumn watering, roses form many young immature shoots, which will die in cold winter. At the end of October, the only plentiful irrigation is carried out - water charging. It will saturate the stems and roots with water, the plants will winter better.

Better to water in irrigation circles or grooves, loosen or mulch the soil. Water for irrigation should only be warm.

Sprinkling is carried out in the morning, in the evening it is watered only in the grooves.

They are fed 5 times per season. At the beginning of the year, a mullein is used to gain green mass, then a complex mineral fertilizer for roses (for example, Agricola) according to the instructions. Since August, the application of any nitrogen fertilizers is completely stopped, potassium salt and superphosphate are introduced in the fall.

Pruning

A bush of the Botticelli variety can almost be called self-forming. The bush grows beautifully. But like any floribunda, it needs pruning. The bush will become even more lush. The rose is cut 3 times a year: in the first half of April, before the juice begins to move, in summer and autumn.

In the spring, one-year-old shoots are cut by 1/3, and 3-5 buds are left on two-year-olds. And also cut out all shoots growing ugly or thickening the bush, injured, damaged or frozen. In the summer, wilted inflorescences are cut off in a timely manner, this stimulates the growth of new flowers. In the fall, damaged shoots and leaves are cut, sometimes branches are shortened for better wintering.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

The rose belongs to the 6th zone of frost resistance. In the middle lane, such roses are necessarily covered, especially in the first years of life. The branches are cut low, a thick layer of mulch is laid out, not less than 15 cm. An even more reliable shelter will be the formation of "houses" (from arcs, boards, supports, wire), on which the covering material is placed. To hide roses, you can also use spruce branches, it creates a good air cushion, a covering material is placed on top. In the spring, carefully covered roses must be ventilated.

Diseases and pests

The rose is very disease resistant. For prevention, you can periodically process the bushes with "Fitosporin", but, as a rule, the rose does not suffer from diseases. Enough general preventive measures: good care, choosing a suitable place, thorough autumn cleaning in the garden.

Review overview

The variety received the highest marks from florists. Grows quickly and willingly, very hardworking, in flowers until the very cold. It tolerates bad weather, flowers do not suffer from sun, rain or wind. A very healthy bush, it is noticeable even visually, it is strong, well leafy, the foliage is beautiful. The variety tends to show itself quickly - important for those who do not want to wait several years before seeing the full potential of the variety. Rosa Botticelli, with good care, already in the 1st year will demonstrate very lush brushes. The variety is liked even by those who do not like the floribunda group, the color of the flowers is so delicate. And the flowers themselves are lovely, the petals are stacked one by one. Sometimes there are reviews about the insufficient winter hardiness of the flower, but in other flower growers, even from cold regions, such as the Leningrad Region, a mature plant winters well.

It is not in vain that Rosa Botticelli received her awards, an excellent variety that is able to conquer everyone.
