Floribunda roses are very popular among summer residents and flower growers. A striking representative of the group is the Bordeaux variety, impressive with its beauty, abundant flowering and completely easy care.

Breeding history of the variety

Bordeaux roses appeared thanks to the work of German breeders of the Kordes nursery in 2014. The authorship of the culture belongs to the famous scientist W. Kordes Sohne, who presented many pink varieties that have won the love of flower growers all over the world. It is possible to grow flower bushes both in open ground and in greenhouse structures. German roses are cultivated in all regions of Russia.

Description of the variety

Bordeaux is a neat shrub with erect shoots, growing to a height of 70-90 cm. The plant is characterized by strong and flexible shoots, good branching, moderate thickening of large dark green leaves with a pronounced gloss and clear venation, as well as a powerful rod-type rhizome. There are few thorns on the shoots, they are elongated and sharp.

Due to the growth of lateral shoots, the rose bush looks voluminous and luxuriant, reaching a diameter of 50-60 cm. Large buds are formed on the bushes, collected in inflorescences of 3-5 units. Single flowers are often formed.

Advantages and disadvantages

German roses have many advantages, including high frost resistance, good tolerance to rain and drought, strong immunity that protects against a number of fungal infections, abundant, repeated and prolonged flowering (the rose blooms for about 3-4 months). The disadvantages include the weak intensity of the aroma and strict adherence to the rules of agricultural technology.

Flowering features

Rose of Bordeaux is especially beautiful during the period of abundant flowering. The variety belongs to the class of long-flowering flowers. The buds bloom gradually, in a light wave, so the bush is always beautiful throughout the summer. Flowering begins in June and ends in September. The bud, proudly perched on flexible branches, has a neat rounded shape and a uniform dark red color.

When opened, it turns into a large double flower with a dense structure, consisting of 35-60 velvety petals. The volume of each rose reaches 8-10 cm. The color of the flower is beautiful - wine-red, sometimes raspberry and burgundy shades are present. When the cupped rose is fully opened, the golden stamen inside becomes noticeable. The aroma of roses is unobtrusive, light, not interrupting the fragrance of other flowers that grow nearby.

Use in landscape design

German rose bushes can be planted singly or in combination with other flowers. This type is ideal for creating a low hedge, zoning a front garden, decorating a festive meadow. Bordeaux is suitable for cut growing because the flowers can stand for a long time in a vase, retaining their beauty and freshness. Due to the compactness of the bushes, the variety can be grown in large containers.

Landing

Planting of pink seedlings is carried out in April-May, when the temperature stabilizes to a level of + 12 ... 14 degrees Celsius. The site is chosen leveled, cleaned, protected from drafts.Roses grow comfortably in a sunny, light and warm place, despite the fact that the variety is shade-tolerant. Due to the deep bedding of the roots of shrubs, the flow of groundwater should be at a level of 150-200 cm. The rose does not like the lowlands, where water and cold air accumulate.

A loose, fertile soil with a good drainage system, enriched with organic complexes, is suitable for planting. It is important that the soil is not too acidic and heavy.

Growing and care

Prepared cuttings are planted in holes 40-60 cm deep. The distance between plants is at least 50-60 cm. The holes should have drainage from rubble or gravel and a layer of fertilizer mixed with garden soil. A seedling is planted at an inclination of 30 degrees. After planting, the cuttings are watered abundantly with warm water, and the soil is also lightly tamped. It is recommended to place no more than 4-5 plants per 1 m2. You should not plant a rose near fruit trees and tall shrubs so that constant shade does not form.

Flower care consists of basic measures: watering with settled water, fertilizing, loosening, weeding, pruning branches, mulching, disease prevention and shelter for the winter.

Watering and feeding

The rose has good drought resistance, but it needs regular watering. As a rule, the bush is watered every week. In too hot periods, watering can be increased, and in August, completely stop.

It is recommended to apply fertilizers 4 times per season. The first feeding is carried out in May, saturating the plant with nitrogen-containing components. The next 2 dressings are done in the summer, when the bushes need phosphorus and potassium for abundant flowering. The last fertilizers are applied in late summer - early autumn. If the summer is very rainy, then the amount of dressing can be increased.

Pruning

Three prunings are carried out per season. In early spring, you need to remove the frozen branches, as well as shorten the central shoots. Only dry and diseased branches are harvested in autumn. It is recommended to cut the withered flowers during flowering. If the shrub grows too much, then you can thin it out a little.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

Due to its good cold resistance, the plant practically does not need shelter for the winter if it grows in the central or southern part of the country. For rose bushes, high-quality mulching with spruce branches and peat is enough. In regions with little snow and very frosty winters, rose bushes can be covered with burlap, not forgetting about airing in early spring. Plants are usually covered during the period when the temperature is kept at -7 ... 8 degrees, not earlier.

Diseases and pests

This pink variety has good immunity, which protects against a number of infections - powdery mildew, black spot, rust, gray mold. In unfavorable conditions, rose bushes can attack pests, for example, spider mites, leaf rollers, rosy scale insects and aphids.
