Purple roses always arouse increased interest both among summer residents and among buyers. This color is less common than classic white, red, pink shades. Purple varieties can be cultivated independently, effectively decorating gardens and plots with them. For example, you can choose the Blue Eden variety to create a contrast with other crops.

Breeding history of the variety

The Blue Eden variety appeared in America; the scientist Tom Carruth was engaged in its selection. The hybrid tea rose was created in 2004, but presented to the community only in 2006. The variety has several synonyms for the name: Blue Eden, Wild Blue Yonder. Interestingly, the resulting strain was the first purple rose to be appreciated and recognized by the American Rose Society.

Description of the variety

Medium-sized bushes with straight shoots have a height of 100-140 centimeters, in width they reach almost a meter. Plants are abundantly covered with large emerald green foliage.

Goblet buds have a dark purple-burgundy color, and already blossoming flowers turn purple with a burgundy border. The center of the flower is painted in a white-cream tone, the stamens are yellow. The color of this rose is very rich, bright and extraordinary. However, the cupped flowers do not differ in variegation.

The variety is large-flowered, the standard diameter of roses is 8-11 centimeters. By the number of petals, roses are moderately double, each containing 25-30 roses. Roses grow in compact low-flowered inflorescences, 3-5 flowers may appear on the stem. The petals emit an intense aroma, which is a mixture of citrus fruits with a light hint of spices.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main plus of Blue Eden is, of course, the extraordinary color of the petals. It is quite rare and always becomes a subject of interest. Rosaries with this flower look very impressive, and since the rose has a short rest period between flowering, you can enjoy the beauty of the bushes almost constantly. The plant does not feel discomfort in the heat and can tolerate frost. It is rarely exposed to diseases.

The only drawbacks of Blue Eden are the difficulty in finding planting material and the average resistance to rain.

Flowering features

Those who have chosen this rose for their garden can expect flowering in May. Fading, the variety enters a short period of dormancy, some summer residents may not even notice it at all. Wave-like flowering continues until October, and in warm regions until November, while the bushes bloom profusely until the last moment, without reducing the number of inflorescences.

Use in landscape design

Blue Eden bushes are quite large, they grow well, so it will be interesting to look in a single planting somewhere in a prominent place. Those who form entire rose plantations are advised to plant this variety in a group of several bushes. If you want to create a contrast, purple roses can be combined with white or yellow varieties. Landing is also carried out on flower beds, near the curbs. In cut, these flowers are no less good, they stand for a long time.

Growing regions

Blue Eden likes a warm, dry climate with a minimum of rain. Therefore, it is customary to grow such a rose in the southern parts of the country. They are trying to cultivate it in cool areas, for example, in the Urals. However, for areas with rainy, even warm summers, the variety is not recommended.

Landing

Roses can be planted in fully lit and semi-lit areas. In a slightly shaded area, they will be even brighter. It is recommended to plant in an area with black soil, but loamy soil will also be comfortable for the plant. But it will have to be prepared in advance, in the previous season, enriched with organic matter. The best acidity for Blue Eden is 6 pH.

Planting a seedling is done in the classical way. Plants are placed in holes dug out in a couple of weeks, carefully covered with earth along the edges, which must be constantly tamped. The inoculation site is placed a few cm below the soil level. For the first 10-14 days, a watered plant should be protected from direct exposure to the sun.

Growing and care

Blue Eden roses do not need specific care. To keep the petals bright at all times, you will need watering a couple of times a week. In the evenings, after sunset, you can sprinkle the bushes. In the morning of the next day, slightly loosen the soil near the plants. Weeding is kept to a minimum by mulching with dry straw or sawdust.

In April-May, Blue Eden is fed with diluted liquid organic matter or a urea solution. With the onset of summer, feeding with superphosphate and wood ash becomes more acceptable. You can also buy ready-made mixtures for roses.

Flowering in the first year can be allowed, but it is better to limit it so that the rose can gain strength for the next season. Early spring pruning is mandatory, leaving strong and healthy shoots on the bushes. From June to September, dry inflorescences are pinched off, and in October branches are pruned, which have become very weak or dried out during the season.

The list of crop care also includes the organization of a shelter for the period of cold snap. Blue Eden, grown in the south, will be able to survive the frost if it is covered with humus and spruce branches. In more northern latitudes, a frame shelter with plastic wrap is being prepared. If the temperature in winter does not drop below -7, then the bushes do not need any preparation measures. In general, their temperature limit is 18-23 degrees below zero.

Diseases and pests

The genetics of the variety is very good, it is she who provides him with almost complete immunity to typical diseases of these flowers. Summer residents rarely carry out prophylaxis, usually the bushes do not need it. However, cases of insect infestations may occur. If you carefully examine the bushes, you can immediately notice the presence of aphids, caterpillars, spider mites. A small number of parasites allows the use of folk remedies. And also gardeners note that the variety is loved by snails and slugs. Sprinkling with grated eggshells should ward them off the site.

Reproduction

An acceptable technique here would be to create cuttings. Varieties are not propagated by seeds of roses, since this is too long a process that does not guarantee the preservation of varietal characteristics. Dividing a bush is stressful and should also be left for the deadline. Cuttings are obtained from young bushes at the end of summer, rooted in a wet substrate and await adaptation. You can try to multiply by layering, but the method does not always work.

Review overview

Blue Eden, according to the marks of summer residents, is growing rapidly. The planted bushes take root well in fertile soil, have large shiny foliage and flowers of unusual color with a contrasting center. Gardeners love the way this variety looks in the design of the site. Stunning bouquets come out of roses. Most summer residents noted that there were no cases of powdery mildew and other fungi.

And yet, not everyone likes the shape of the flower. Many people prefer more interesting options, even despite the color of the petals. The rapid growth of culture for some has become a minus: summer residents do not have time to do pruning, the bush grows, takes up a lot of space. It looks like a rose hip, and this also becomes a disadvantage for individual growers.
