Shrub rose Belvedere has long been a source of pride for those who planted it on their plots. An unpretentious plant bred in a nursery known to gardeners all over the world, it takes root remarkably even in cold areas.

Breeding history of the variety

Belvedere translates as "wonderful view". This beautiful rose was bred in the German nursery Rosen Tantau. Hans Jürgen Evers was involved in the selection. The plant was bred in 1996, but it has spread since about 2001.

Description of the variety

The group to which the Belvedere belongs are shrubs or spray roses. Vigorous bushes look very neat, they decorate the site wonderfully. They have an average height of 100-120 centimeters, but in warm climates they can stretch up to one and a half meters. Strong erect shoots do not need support, they are quite capable of forming flowers on themselves. Glossy foliage does not differ in large dimensions, it is painted in dark green shades.

Dark orange buds brighten as they bloom, becoming orange-peach. The colors are very bright, juicy, saturated. An unopened bud has a round shape, but the flower will be cupped or rosette-shaped. Roses are large, they can be 10-12 centimeters in diameter, some are 13 cm. Flowers are densely doubled, contain a record number of petals - from 80 to 95. Inflorescences are few-flowered, a maximum of three flowers can appear on the stem, but more often it is 1-2 ... The smell of roses comes off a tart, oriental spices are clearly guessed in it. The intensity of the scent is medium.

Advantages and disadvantages

Scrub rose Belvedere has the following advantages:

  • does not need constant care, is extremely unpretentious;

  • blooms already at the beginning of the summer period;

  • has an unusual aroma, which is difficult to confuse with others;

  • can withstand cold up to -30 degrees Celsius;

  • in most cases it takes root easily and quickly even in not very favorable conditions.

But there are also disadvantages. So, the main one is the rapid burnout of the petals. If the rose is constantly under the scorching rays, the flowering will not please with the brightness of the colors. In addition, the rose is moderately resistant to rain. Some flowers can be damaged by it. The last nuance is not the best resistance to some fungal diseases.

Flowering features

The Belvedere forms its first flowers in early summer. The initial flowering is especially abundant, then the flowers begin to shrink, they become smaller, the color is no longer so bright. Dormant periods are almost impossible to notice, the rose quickly replaces faded specimens with new ones. On average, the end of flowering can be expected in October.

Use in landscape design

The original purpose of the Belvedere rose is to plant in small groups. But this is not the only way to use it. The rose looks great as a tapeworm, this planting is optimal for a small garden. Even a single bush will decorate a small space. The scrub subspecies is very often planted next to spruces, thujas. This neighborhood looks very harmonious. In addition, Belvedere feels great in a container.Containers with roses can be placed on the terrace, near the entrance to the house, to decorate the entrance to the site.

Growing regions

Rose Belvedere is available for cultivation throughout the country. It is quite possible to grow it both in the northern and southern regions. The main thing is to pay attention to wintering.

Landing

Scrub rose requires drained soil rich in organic matter. To get excellent flowering, dig up and fertilize the soil several months before planting. It is impossible to place bushes in wet and swampy places.

The originator recommends sunny areas, but in fact the rose should be placed where it will be partially shaded at certain times of the day. Otherwise, the petals will not only burn out, but also get burned. Draft to the bushes is not particularly scary, even beneficial, contributing to the rapid drying of individual drops that have fallen on foliage and flowers.

Planting holes must be filled with a 10 cm drainage layer. Optimal soil consists of sand (3 parts), humus, turf and compost (one part each). But from practice it follows that everything, except for sand, can be replaced with vermicompost. It promotes early adaptation. The seedling is planted so that the grafting site goes into the substrate by a few centimeters. The end of planting is irrigation.

Growing and care

For roses of this variety, pruning is of great importance. When it gets warmer, you should do this procedure, leaving about five shoots, the strongest and most developed. Each shoot should contain approximately 8 buds. Weak branches are completely removed. If the plant has grown above 100 centimeters, then 40 of them should be removed. Before winter, they carry out a minimal haircut. It is recommended to cut young shoots by a third, since they will not survive frost anyway.

Plants are moderately drought tolerant, so it is important to monitor soil moisture. If it's dry, it's time to do irrigation, it is best to choose an evening for this. Water is poured to the roots, without falling on the foliage and even more so the flowers. After 2-3 hours, you can carefully loosen the substrate and check it for weeds.

As soon as it gets warmer, the Belvedere bushes are treated with copper sulfate. It will become a valuable supplement, and will also help protect against disease. Before summer, nitrogen can be added, with the help of it the plant will grow and gain the required amount of foliage. With the arrival of June, scrub roses are fertilized with phosphorus, boron, and potassium compounds. Completely prepared fertilizers for flowering crops are available in specialized stores.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

Despite its excellent frost resistance, the Belvedere will need an obligatory shelter. The first step is to completely clear the land of weeds, fluff it up. It is definitely worth carrying out water-charging irrigation. The stems of roses are bent to the very ground, on which spruce branches are laid in advance. Next, the hilling of the bushes is carried out, it is best to take peat. The last moment is the stretching of the film onto the frame arcs.

Diseases and pests

Rosa Belvedere can be affected by diseases, here in the first place will be fungal ailments. Mostly the rose is affected by powdery mildew, but black spot will not be uncommon. Copper sulfate, Bordeaux liquid or other fungicides will help prevent troubles.

The most problematic pest for this variety will be aphids. But getting rid of it is easy even with a simple pressure of water. The tick will deliver more trouble, it is removed with insecticides. Sawflies and leaf rollers start up less often, but if they have already appeared, then chemistry will also have to be applied here.

Reproduction

Any vegetative methods are acceptable for Belvedere. The most popular is cuttings; propagation material is obtained at the end of the summer period. In addition, there is an option for reproduction by layering, grafting. But seed breeding is an extreme case.

Review overview

The opinions of gardeners about the Belvedere rose are different. Absolutely everyone likes the juicy orange color of the petals, many would like to have such a rose, but planting material is not so easy to acquire, and besides, it is expensive. Growing problems also arise.Some gardeners cultivate a bush, giving it a minimum of care, while others cannot achieve adaptation and flowering in any way. The last group of gardeners declares that roses are constantly infected with fungi, they winter badly, and begin to grow normally only after growing up.
