Breeding history

Rose Ashram, representing the category of hybrid tea varieties, was created by German breeders of the Tantau rose growing company, which is famous throughout Europe for its decorative and flowering crops. The history of the pink variety begins in 1998. Due to its excellent qualities, the rose bush is grown in almost all regions of Russia.

The German flower is a vigorous upright bush, reaching a height of 75-110 cm. It is characterized by a weakly spreading plant with strong shoots, not very densely covered with sharp thorns, abundant thickening of large dark emerald leaves with a pronounced venation and gloss of the surface, as well as a developed root system, deeply germinating into the soil. Due to the active growth and the appearance of lateral shoots, the rosebush looks magnificent, reaching a diameter of 50-60 cm. On each stem, from 2 to 5 large flowers are formed, which are often collected in inflorescences. Often, the buds are formed singly on the stems.

Ashram delights flower growers not only due to its unusual color, but also many other advantages - high frost resistance, strong immunity that protects against most diseases, abundant and continuous flowering (3-4 months), resistance to rain, drought and prolonged heat, as well as good adaptive properties. Among the shortcomings, one can only point out the weak intensity of the aroma.

The German rose is especially beautiful during the period of abundant flowering. The budding period is quite long - from June to September. On average, one rose blooms for 12-14 days. The goblet buds of a creamy peach color have a dense structure. During blooming, you can observe a terry flat-shaped flower of a rather large size with a diameter of 8-11 cm, but sometimes roses bloom larger - up to 14 cm.The rose, consisting of 30-40 wide petals with wavy edges and a velvety surface, is endowed with an unusually beautiful color - copper -brown-orange, sometimes peach, lilac, sand and cream tones are present. An absolutely open rose with curled edges of petals looks like a handful of lush lace. Regardless of the stage of flowering, roses do not emit a strong aroma - only light fruity notes are heard.

Ashram roses are beautiful both in single plantings and in groups. The flower will be appropriate in mixborders, flower beds. Roses are often planted in the company of snow-white, pale pink and light orange flowers.

In addition, the rose bushes of the Ashram make a beautiful, not very high hedge. In landscape design, the German rose is often grown in compositions with junipers, thujas and dwarf pines.This variety is good for cutting, as these flowers can stand in a vase for about 2 weeks, retaining their freshness and beauty.

Saplings are planted from mid-April to early May. In the southern regions, roses can be planted in the fall (late September - mid-October) so that they have time to take root before the onset of stable frosts. The optimum temperature for planting is considered to be + 12 ... 15 degrees. The site is chosen leveled or on a small hill, where it is light and sunny, and there is also protection from gusty winds. The best place is where it is sunny in the morning and evening, and partial shade at lunchtime, in order to prevent burns and wilting of the petals.

The plant has no special requirements for the soil, the main thing is that the soil is fluffy, enriched with mineral and organic components, breathable and slightly acidic. You cannot plan to land in lowlands where moisture and cold air accumulate. Loams and chernozems will be optimal.

The rose is cultivated by planting seedlings. For this, holes are prepared with a depth of 40-50 cm, in which drainage from expanded clay and a layer of soil mixture, supplemented with fertilizers, are laid. The seedling is deepened so that the root collar is immersed in the ground by 3-4 cm.At the end of the procedure, pour it with warm water and tamp the soil. When planting, the following density of placement of seedlings is observed - 4-5 units per 1 m2.

Crop care consists of basic procedures: watering with warm water under the root, loosening every 2 weeks, weeding, feeding (twice during the growing season), mulching, disease prevention, shelter for the winter, and sanitary pruning. In addition, in the first year of the shrub's life, it is not recommended to allow early flowering, tearing off the buds until the end of summer. This will allow the pink shrub to bloom profusely next year.

Watering and feeding

Rose is a moisture-loving culture, so you need to water the bushes every week (15-20 liters per one bush). During dry periods, you can double irrigation with settled water. Water should penetrate well into the ground, since the roots of the bushes are deep.

High-quality feeding of rose bushes will ensure their development and abundant flowering. The rose is fed twice a season. Nitrogen fertilizers are applied in early spring. During the summer, the plant needs phosphorus-potassium complexes.

Bushes are pruned 2 times per season. In the spring, frozen shoots are removed, and the strongest stems are shortened. In the fall, damaged, diseased and dry branches are cut off. All shoots are shortened before winter. During the flowering period, you need to cut off the wilted buds. To ensure early flowering, it is necessary to leave 5-7 buds on each shoot when pruning.

Despite its excellent frost resistance (the plant can withstand temperature drops to –29 ... 23 degrees), roses need to be warmed for the winter. In regions with cold and long winters, roses are covered with a special material (agrofibre, burlap) and a film, having built a strong frame. In the southern regions, there is enough cover with spruce branches, which is harvested in early spring. The bushes are covered during the period when the temperature is constantly kept at the level of -5 ... 7 degrees.

German Ashram roses are endowed with a strong immune system that provides resistance to many diseases such as powdery mildew, rust, black spot. Fungal infections occur when agricultural technology is violated or in conditions of high humidity. Among the pests that occasionally attack pink plantings, rose aphids, spider mites and leaf rollers are dangerous. Spraying with soapy water or garlic and onion tincture will help to get rid of the invasion of pests.

The rose is propagated vegetatively. Cuttings are cut for planting from young and healthy rose bushes that have passed the first wave of flowering.
