Rose of Andre Turcat is a bush variety (scrub) with a spectacular shape and color of buds, a lush corolla. The variety is appreciated for its confident wintering in a temperate climate, easy adaptation after transplanting, and a beautiful compact crown shape. It got its name in honor of the legendary aviator who participated in the testing of the Concorde supersonic aircraft.

Breeding history of the variety

Andre Türka was bred in the famous French nursery Massad. It was introduced into culture in 2007, but received 5 years earlier. Part of the Les Provencelles Collection.

Description of the variety

The rose of André Türk forms lush bushes of an almost square format, 120-150 cm high and up to 100 cm wide. The shoots are erect, forming a weakly branched crown covered with dark green leaves. Flowers are formed in a bouquet, 3-5 per stem. They have a strong fragrant aroma.

This variety is distinguished by its bright color, densely doubled structure of a flower with 40 petals or more. Blooming corollas of medium size, 7-8 cm in diameter. The color of the petals is mixed, yellow-pink-orange. The shape of the flower is old, umbrella-shaped, slightly flattened.

Advantages and disadvantages

This rose variety has its merits. It has very good rain resistance, the middle does not rot, even if rainfall falls on unopened flowers. And also the variety is appreciated for the extraordinary beauty of flowering, the ability to re-form buds.

There are also disadvantages. Andre Türk's rose has to be protected from winter frosts in most climatic zones. It also tends to fade in the sun, under direct scorching rays.

Flowering features

Andre Türk's rose variety blooms continuously from June to October. It is distinguished by the gradual blooming of the buds. Abundant flower formation on the shoots.

Use in landscape design

Shrub roses of this variety are widely used in the design of large and small garden plots, parks and squares. Blooming corollas on long stems are used for cutting. In single plantings, the bush looks spectacular as a tapeworm, against the background of a lawn or framed by green plants. In a group, they are placed as part of borders, flower beds, cascading plantings.

Growing regions

The variety is successfully cultivated in central Russia. It is grown everywhere, from the Moscow region to the Krasnodar Territory, but plants are not suitable for northern latitudes.

Landing

Plants are recommended to be planted in the sun, but not in direct sunlight. The procedure is carried out from March to June or from July to October. It is important that the plant has time to acclimatize before the onset of cold weather. Bushes with a closed root system are best planted in the fall. They need enough space around; it is impossible to thicken the plantings too much.

Growing and care

Andre Türk's bush rose variety is rather unpretentious. Once the planting process is complete, the main care is to keep the soil in optimal condition. It is regularly loosened, saturated with nutrients, freed from weeds. Organic mulch or synthetic canvas can be used to retain moisture.

Watering and feeding

Plants need timely watering, taking into account the climatic characteristics and the abundance of precipitation. For each adult plant, 10 liters of water is consumed during irrigation. The rose is fed 3-4 times per season with special mineral complexes. Fertilizers can be applied under the root or foliar method, through spraying.

Pruning

Rose Andre Türk reacts rather badly to overly short pruning. Its shape is maintained moderately, slightly shortening the ends of the shoots.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

The variety is frost-resistant. Withstands a drop in atmospheric temperatures down to -18 ... 23 degrees Celsius. The shelter is being established in regions where winter temperatures can drop below this limit. The bushes try not to bend to the ground in order to avoid breaking the shoots. They are hilled high, and then tied with heat-insulating materials that allow air to pass through.

Diseases and pests

This rose is extremely rarely affected by powdery mildew and black spot - the main diseases of the culture. Foliage is highly resistant to disease. But if agricultural technology is violated, the rose can be attacked by insects. Bushes are especially affected by aphids and leafworms.

Reproduction

Roses of this variety are propagated vegetatively, by cuttings. With this method, the cut parts of the shoots are rooted in the soil, erecting mini-greenhouses. Bushes that have reached the age of 2 years are already transferred to a permanent place.

Review overview

André Türk's variety is considered special even among true connoisseurs of roses. The French variety with very fragrant and large flowers of unusual color attracts attention at exhibitions, in nursery catalogs. The shade of the corolla gradually changes from the center to the edges, from yellow-orange to peach-pink, which gives it a special decorative effect. The strong fruity aroma is also rated by gardeners as very pleasant. It is noted that the variety winters well in the Moscow region, even under a single layer of spunbond.

Experienced gardeners point out that the full beauty of this variety of roses is gained only 3-4 years after planting. The bushes become lush and bloom profusely for most of the summer and fall. The flowers fade slightly in the sun by 1-2 tones, the difference in shades may even be in different waves of flowering. Gardeners consider the main disadvantage of the variety to be the tendency of the bushes to thicken, they quickly overgrow, gradually losing their shape.
