Its unusual coloration appears as it fades in the sun. The absence of thorns and a light delicate aroma attract the attention of amateur gardeners to it.

Breeding history of the variety

This hybrid tea variety was obtained in the Netherlands by the breeder Petrus Nicolaas Johannes Schreurs. The commercial registration used the name Schrenat. The rose has been on the market since 1996. Not registered in the Russian State Register.

Description of the variety

Aqua is a hybrid tea variety of a rose with compact, slightly spreading bushes 80-120 cm high. Stems are straight, slightly branched. The average diameter of the bush is 60 cm. The leaves on the branches are large, dark green, their number is not too large, the base of the bush can be bare. Shoots are even, rather thick and strong, grow quickly.

The buds of the Aqua rose are colored dark pink. There is a border, colored slightly darker than the base. On a fully opened corolla, the petals are pink, bright. In the sun, they gradually brighten, fading to light lilac and blue. The buds have a goblet shape, the blossoming flowers are cupped, large, 7-9 cm in diameter.

The degree of terry is medium. Each bud has 36-40 petals. Flowers are arranged singly, 1 for each stem. The Aqua variety is characterized by a weak and delicate aroma, light, floral, without pronounced oiliness.

Advantages and disadvantages

Aqua is a rose variety highly regarded by the professional breeder community. She has the Flowers Expo, Syracuse Rose Society awards. On an industrial scale, the variety is cultivated as a cutaway variety in Latin America. Its main advantages are excellent preservation of the density of buds and flowers in bouquets and compositions, transportability and graceful corolla shape. Long, sturdy stems are also highly valued when cut.

The disadvantages of the variety are manifested mainly in unfavorable climatic conditions. Flowers lose their decorative effect. When freezing, the bushes often die. Under the scorching sun, the edges of the petals are sintered.

Flowering features

Rose Aqua is continuously flowering, with abundant formation and a long blooming period. Corollas on it open from June until the very frost. Flowering occurs in waves, in 2-3 stages. Buds also form between them, but not so abundantly.

Use in landscape design

In addition to cutting, the variety is used to decorate the site in group and single plantings. Plants look very impressive against the background of taller shrubs. As a tapeworm, they are harmoniously set off by the fresh green of the lawn grass. In the container culture, rose bushes can be used to decorate the space of the terrace, decorate the entrance group of the house, highlight the steps of the stairs.

Growing regions

The variety is very thermophilic. Outdoor cultivation is only possible in regions with subtropical or temperate continental climates. The variety does not tolerate an abundance of precipitation. It should be planted in a greenhouse where it often rains, early winter comes.

Landing

It is recommended to grow this rose variety in the sun or in partial shade, if you want to preserve the original delicate shade of the petals for a long time. Bushes are planted from April to October. The choice of the site is made in favor of a place protected from through winds. Soils are preferable to be well-watered, neutral acidic, with shallow groundwater. At least half a square meter of area is allocated for each bush.

Growing and care

The variety is responsive to abundant feeding. Needs attention and care throughout the growing season. Beautifully blooming buds must be removed from the shoots after they dry.

Pruning

Plants benefit from light formative pruning. In autumn, it is customary to shorten the shoots, leaving no more than 8-10 dormant buds. In the spring, the bush is sanitized, with the removal of broken or frozen branches.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

Plants are frost-resistant. Withstand a short-term drop in atmospheric temperatures down to -28 degrees. The Aqua variety belongs to the 6th zone of frost resistance according to the USDA classification.

Diseases and pests

The variety is distinguished by its high resistance to the main diseases of the crop. It is practically not affected by powdery mildew and black spot.

Reproduction

Plants reproduce by vegetative means. The easiest way to get planting material is by cuttings.

Review overview

Growers consider the Aqua rose to be an underrated variety with a lot of potential. It develops slowly, late reveals its true beauty. Especially a lot of positive feedback is received for its stability in the cut. Thick stems confidently hold peduncles, the core does not become bare even after 2 weeks in a vase. Gardeners estimate the color of the petals as monotonous pink, without nuances, in warm shades, very beautiful.

The shape of the flower is also highly appreciated. It takes on the goblet appearance characteristic of hybrid tea varieties, with the petals gracefully bent in the opposite direction from the center. Color variability is not always manifested, but with sufficient acidity of the soil, the intensity of illumination is pronounced. Gardeners note that autumn buds open more slowly, over the course of 2 weeks.

Among the other advantages mentioned, summer residents distinguish excellent resistance to rot or mold damage. Pests are extremely rare on the bushes. You can do without frequent spraying with insecticides against aphids, spider mites. But the plant's ability to withstand cold weather, according to gardeners, is quite low. Even under cover, bushes often die, which can be attributed to the main disadvantage of the Aqua variety.

Another mentioned disadvantage concerns the cultivation of this rose in the conditions of the middle lane. During prolonged rainy periods, the buds and outer petals of the opened corollas begin to rot.
