The design of the hallway should be given special attention. After all, it is rather difficult to create an optimal impression of the house and its inhabitants with the help of this room. Only by competently using its small space, you can confidently solve the task.

Design features

The design may be the most original, and now excellent solutions have been developed even for a very small hallway. Let there be enough space only for a hanger and a single shelf for hats, but even such an area should be decorated gracefully. To maintain comfort and express the design idea, you need to put all your clothes in the closet. It is recommended to choose furniture with sliding doors and a mirror on them (it saves a lot of valuable space).

In an apartment, it is worth separating the rooms from the hallway with doors with transparent glass inserts, this will help add more light to the darkened space. When the available space is limited to 4 square meters, this is very bad, but the problem is completely solvable.

You can resort to redevelopment or try to visually enlarge the space by choosing the right furniture. The walls are covered with paint (this is the most space-saving coating), but by no means white, it is too easily soiled.

The entrance hall in a private house is designed differently than in apartments, because it is necessary to take into account both temperature differences at the entrance and the size of the room. It is not standardized, each developer chooses the size of individual premises at his own discretion.

The hall is carefully measured and purchased furniture, decorative elements, think over the design, only starting from the results of measurements. In private houses, it is recommended to use linoleum and tiles, but in all other respects there will be no special differences from apartments.

Modern ideas are aimed, first of all, at not "breaking" the original configuration of the corridor, but using it as efficiently as possible.

Important: originality is good in moderation here, and it is advisable to adhere to the same design as for other rooms.

Or if, nevertheless, a choice is made in favor of a special style, you need to introduce elements that visually and logically connect different rooms. It is recommended to use mirrors and art canvases for this.

Modern design of corridors with an area of 8 sq. m or any other is subordinated, first of all, to considerations of practicality and functionality, they dominate the external grace, although they do not completely cancel it.

Think about whether it will be convenient to put things in order in the room, whether maintaining cleanliness and gloss will not become too tedious task. The preferred materials and designs are those that retain their practical qualities and appearance for a long time even with constant contact with moisture.

It is advisable to choose the floor covering as strong and stable as possible. Any modern approach (not only minimalism) is aimed at expressing a general stylistic idea using the least amount of decorative elements.

At the same time, the area is also taken into account - no more furniture is put than it will be convenient for you to use, and therefore multifunctional products are more appropriate in the smallest rooms. Be sure to take care of artificial lighting, and if the walls, ceilings are very dark, choose the brightest lamps possible to neutralize this effect.

Popular styles and colors

Regardless of the style chosen, avoid overly light tones, they show the slightest pollution. Country style involves the use of objects and coatings of a natural look, a very good step is the introduction of decorative items made by hand.

The corridor can be decorated, for example, with a cotton curtain separating the shoe shelves from the rest of the space. Pots of flowers or herbariums on wooden shelves will also look good. What is categorically inappropriate in this format is the abrupt transitions. Try to harmonize different parts of the interior smoothly.

High-tech is the absolute opposite of country: it emphasizes not only the passion for modern technology and technology, but also the ambition and determination of the owners. Cold and expressive tones are most common.

The design can combine white and blue paints. Abruptly breaking contours separating dissimilar elements, violation of symmetry - all this is justified if it is possible to fit a specific move into the general concept.

Do not be afraid to create an overly light or extremely dark room, it is quite consistent with the canons of this approach.

Minimalism can be considered one of the ramifications of high-tech. Here the emphasis is on a little more development and comfort of the room. No, high-tech attributes, saturated colors are still welcome, but they are already subordinated to the idea of convenience.

It is allowed to use animating elements:

  • Vases (not necessarily with flowers, you can by themselves);

  • Figurines made of plaster;

  • Beautiful clock;

  • Original lighting fixtures.

For niches in a minimalistic corridor, drywall is most often used.

The classic interior suits those who categorically dislike both previous solutions, seem too complicated or strange. It's a simple and even design that doesn't go to either of the extremes. As accents, you can use individual components of other styles, and not at all sin against aesthetic norms.

A characteristic feature of classic corridors will almost always be a monotonous color of the walls, both with the help of water-based compositions and with wooden panels.

Important: never hang the entire hallway with shelves, it is worth using only one or two, but as efficiently as possible.

The classic also has its limitations - you should not use it where there is a beveled corner or rounding. Only perfectly correct geometric configurations match it perfectly. If the room is very small, you will first need to carry out a solid redevelopment to increase the area, and only then decorate the room in a classic spirit.

As for color, combinations of white with bronze and gold plated are recommended in such an interior. But due to the peculiarities of the hallway, it is more correct to replace pure white with yellow, green or beige tones with single occurrences of the main tone.

If a classic niche or screen is being created, the perimeter should be overlaid with moldings. Stucco curbs and curly rosettes, weighty natural wood frames around mirrors will help to express the design spirit. Appropriate and original move - lamps that resemble candle holders.

Decoration Materials

The selection of materials for finishing the hallway is not as easy as it seems. It is not enough just to match the chosen style in all details and combine colors well. A high resistance to dirt and abrasion is also required. In case of failure, it is advisable to take into account the maintainability of each type of coating. Only by observing these requirements can you arrange the corridor for many years to come.

Paper wallpapers are fundamentally unacceptable. Even the best options wear out too quickly. But inexpensive vinyl counterparts are quite appropriate and, in addition, differ in a wide range of designs created.

Thanks to very dense textures, it is possible to cover almost all imperfections of the bases, and the ability to wash the wall will delight any responsible owners.

One should be interested in cork wallpaper just because it gives a minimal risk of allergies and fits perfectly in an ecological style. Such a coating is easy to clean, it is extremely safe for health, does not accumulate dust or static electricity.

Repairing the surface will be much easier if you use liquid wallpaper, moreover, they are considered the easiest to apply. This material is recommended for hallways, the configuration of the walls in which is very complex and intricate. Cutting and cutting traditional wallpaper materials will be overwhelming and tedious.

Glass fiber can easily endure even such a severe test as dog or cat claws; if necessary, you can repaint them more than once. Easily dyed and non-woven-based wallpaper. But if you do not want to do frequent painting work, just choose a canvas with a pattern.

It is not necessary to limit yourself to wallpaper when decorating a room, there are materials that do not require the preparation of glue at all.

A striking example is decorative plaster, which has the broadest ability to imitate other coatings:

  • Natural stone with its unique textures;

  • Wooden walls eaten by bark beetles;

  • Elegant and perfectly smooth marble.

These are just a few of the most expressive examples showing your possibilities when decorating a space with plaster. In practice, the diversity is much wider. In recent years, imitation of sandstone and wet silk cloth has been in great demand. Velor and embossed plaster are only slightly inferior to them in popularity.

Various types of decorative panels are distinguished by excellent wear resistance, moreover, they all require only the simplest maintenance; wiping with a sponge dipped in soapy water is enough to maintain perfect cleanliness.

Plastic decorative blocks can be either completely smooth or decorated in the spirit of a small Provencal pattern. Some of them depict indestructible stonework. Unlike genuine stone or marble, it is inexpensive and can be installed very quickly.

MDF panels are somewhat more expensive, but they have an undeniable advantage that fully justifies the assigned price - a respectable appearance and perfect environmental safety.

If you have enough money and time, you can decorate the corridor with synthetic stone. Its surface, thanks to modern technologies, is able to duplicate the look of granite and sandstone, marble. If you want to see turquoise and onyx in your interior, just a gray raw stone or malachite, this is a great solution.

Some manufacturers have worked out the technological process to such an extent that it is possible to distinguish an imitation from the original only by a smaller mass of material.

Tile tiles should not be ignored either, over the past 10-15 years a number of textures of such a coating have appeared, which allows it to be used not only in bathrooms or kitchens. But try to buy a double-fired tile, it will be mechanically stronger, and therefore more durable.

When choosing the option with applying paint and varnish, order only water-based, latex, silicate, acrylic or silicone. Of the various color options, the darkest are preferred, including brown, but on condition that this does not create excessive gloom in the design.

No paint is able to mask the defects of the base, and therefore it must be perfectly flat from the beginning or specially prepared.

Whatever material you choose, no matter how simple its use may seem, always prepare a sketch yourself or with the support of an experienced designer.This will help to avoid many ridiculous mistakes and greatly reduce the risk of losses due to poor quality of repairs.

In addition to the walls, it is important to finish the floors and ceilings properly. The lower surface of this room is decorated mainly with linoleum and laminate (in the budget segment), or with stone and tiles (if there are sufficient spare funds). The old coating, for the most part, must be completely dismantled to make it easier to apply a new one.

Panels and other materials installed on the crate do not require long and tedious preparation, but they "eat up" the space and force you to carefully select the fasteners.

Block parquet can be found in the corridor only occasionally. And completely in vain they neglect him! After all, this solution will allow you to create a beautiful durable floor for several decades ahead, which will not have to be constantly repaired.

An important criterion for the quality of a product is its coating with a protective varnish and its use in the basis of especially durable wood species. From time to time, you will need to re-scrape and cover with new portions of the same varnish.

Laminate is a relatively affordable alternative to various types of parquet, but at the same time it is quite diverse. It is advisable to choose the strongest varieties, they will last a very long time - up to one and a half decades (subject to strict adherence to the basic principles of care). An important advantage of laminate flooring is that it is possible to replace single damaged blocks without touching the rest. It is recommended to process the joints with special mastics (wax most often), or use moisture-resistant options; however, they are much more expensive than simple ones.

Never use natural carpet, which absorbs water too easily and starts to smell bad, quickly deforms.

The cost of artificial turf is much less, it is more difficult to damage it, it can be cleaned even with strong reagents. Insects will not be able to settle in such a covering. Nylon carpet is hard, but quite expensive, and needle-punched grades are not strong enough.

It makes sense to lay linoleum in hallways of two types: household or semi-commercial. The second option is noticeably more expensive, but at the same time it turns out to be more stable and reliable, which makes it possible to recommend it for corridors. Among other types of flooring, it is recommended to use ceramic tiles and porcelain stoneware.

We select furniture

In the corridor, you can use corner cabinets, supplemented by upper shelves, but such a solution must necessarily take into account the peculiarities of the ceiling. Furniture in the interior should be distributed as evenly as possible in order to smooth out the feeling of "being in a tunnel" as much as possible. A small hallway requires the use of furniture products of the appropriate size. It is very difficult and difficult, because very small rooms allow only small wardrobes and bedside tables to be used.

Absolutely necessary:

  • Wardrobes or hangers for hanging outerwear;

  • Shoe cabinets (either wide or narrow and elongated upward);

  • Shelves for keys, phones and other useful things, shoe care products;

  • Seating areas for comfortable changing and changing shoes.

It is unwise to refuse any of these elements, even with a strong lack of space. Such a step will only worsen the quality of life in the house, and it is better to use combined options, corner structures.

If the corners create a very strong negative mood, it is best to soften them visually with a compartment-sized wardrobe that can also accommodate the outerwear of the whole family.

It is recommended to complement such furniture with a bedside table with reclining closed shelves.

Built-in furniture should be used in small high-tech or country-style corridors. You can stretch the structure of the wardrobe along the entire wall, this will allow you to walk calmly even with the complete placement of the wardrobe inside.

If such a goal is not worth it, and the bulk of the clothes are stored in another place, you should choose a capacious floor hanger. It is assessed by the stability of the structure itself and the hooks (metal is the strongest).

Modular furniture can be represented by a combination of a narrow wardrobe, a chest of drawers with roll-out drawers and closed cabinets, all together they allow you to completely close the issue of storing outerwear. In small-sized corridors, it is advisable to use light-colored furniture - white or beige.

It makes sense to select interior items that strictly coincide with the color of the walls, they will be outwardly invisible, but the functionality will not diminish at all.

For a high-tech style, a headset with a simple and clear contour line is best suited; glossy surfaces are also appropriate in this format. Since the lack of light and space will not allow confirming the modernity of the style due to contrasting colors, you can beat this idea with multi-colored pens. Even old-fashioned furniture can be used in an ultra-modern interior, but for this it must be decorated with decoupage method.

When choosing at least one forged product, others should have similar design elements.

Beautiful design solutions and ideas

With the help of an arch, it is easy to visually separate the space of the corridor from the adjacent rooms. This element will look stylish and will let in more light than the most transparent doors of the usual type. Designers often recommend using a staircase as part of an original decorative space.

When deciding to decorate the hallway in a minimalist style, limit the number of different colors to two or three. As a basis, any contrasting tone that you like is suitable.

It turns out to be a good idea to introduce a large number of light sources into the interior, but their color must be in harmony with both the walls and the ceiling. A shelf or mirror frame can act as a bright accessory in a minimalistic environment.

An outwardly aged tree and deliberately uneven plastering will help to express the spirit of the Provencal corridor. A vintage room is decorated with either wrought iron decor with a unique weaving, or deer antlers.

Only where there is enough space, it is worth considering options with the installation of flower pots. Do not forget that flowers will need to be constantly looked after, and it is better for very busy people to refuse them.

You can expand too narrow a space by:

  • Painting the walls in the lightest possible colors;

  • Pasting them with wallpaper with a pattern stretched horizontally;

  • Focus on gloss;

  • Applications of mirrors.

Of all the bright colors, green will be the most attractive, but we are talking about its cheerful varieties, and not about dark, dense colors. White-green combinations will add fun and festive mood to the interior. The corridor allows the use of a large pattern of wall covering. As an accent, it is suitable for any of the walls. It is undesirable to use a strip on more than two-thirds of the surfaces, otherwise the room will seem too narrow or too low.

With sufficient width, it is worth hanging shelves of moderate depth to accommodate books and decorative items. A well-arranged backlight will help to make an elegant mirror even more beautiful. Large photographs or black and white portraits, landscapes and still lifes will fit perfectly into a minimalist hallway. Some of the plots are also suitable for the high-tech format.

For illumination, it is worth using LED strips and single lamps. They allow you to create unusually beautiful compositions.
