Beautiful furniture in the Scandinavian style can play an important role in everyday life. These models can be designed for nursery and bathroom. A separate topic is solid wood furniture in the interior of the hallway and kitchen, color schemes and basic selection rules.

Peculiarities

Scandinavia has a rather harsh climate and long winter nights, especially in the northern part of the region. These natural features of the area forced its inhabitants to maximize the number of light colors. Traditionally, other important features of Scandinavian-style furniture are order, external simplicity and comfort.

This style of design implies the maximum use of light. Any constructions cluttering the space are unacceptable here.

Other significant signs of the Scandinavian design style are:

  • active use of white and its shades;
  • the predominance of natural materials in the decoration;
  • modesty and emphasized functionality;
  • the presence of at least a small number of juicy, rich accents;
  • minimal composition (excess furniture completely breaks the whole concept);
  • multifunctionality of each item (including through transformation).

All style canons are meticulously observed in Ikea products. They are distinguished by their severity and visual conciseness. Open shelves and similar shelving are preferred. If dressers are placed in the rooms, their size will be small. Experts recommend the use of functional tables and chairs, as well as taking into account the peculiarities of lighting when choosing the color of furniture.

Materials (edit)

The natural materials typical of the Scandinavian style are primarily wood. Ceramics, glass, stone, brick and metal are also widely used. Most often, of course, wood structures are created. Concerns about the oversaturation of the furnished room with wooden elements are not too justified - on the contrary, this solution allows you to demonstrate a very beautiful view. The use of wood inserts is also allowed.

But the tree is the tree of strife! Solid wood furniture is very popular now. Advanced manufacturers can offer a range of modifications to such products, their range includes dozens of original versions. Massive furniture blends harmoniously into almost any stylistic environment. These products show great flavor and add vibrant colors wherever they are used.

Cabinet furniture in the Scandinavian format is quite often made from pine. Regardless of the color of this breed, it has very attractive practical properties. Light pine wood can be processed without any problems and is resistant to decay. If the pine dries up, it will hardly warp. Spruce can also be considered a good option.

but spruce wood almost invariably contains more knots than pine wood. In addition, spruce will be much more difficult to process. A comparatively smaller amount of resins will negatively affect the safety of the material.

Cedar has excellent practical properties, but this material is very expensive. In addition, cedar wood is subject to fairly strong rotting.

Of the hardwoods, oak has been the undisputed leader for many decades. It is a beautiful and durable material for creating cabinet furniture. It is easy to create bent parts of various radii from oak. Of other breeds, attention is drawn to themselves:

  • beech;
  • ash;
  • elm;
  • nut;
  • Birch;
  • softwood (primarily poplar and aspen).

Furniture handles in the Scandinavian style deserve a separate analysis. They are characterized by restraint and laconic design. The fittings most often have a simple geometric configuration. You can use leather, wood, and steel handles. A good option is to use a print that is in harmony with the filling of the room.

Color solutions

The Scandinavian interior is dominated by white. It is used not only in its pure form, but also in the form of various shades, halftones. The white color effectively reflects light rays and therefore visually expands the room. The more it is added, the more airy the atmosphere becomes. To cope with the "hospital" or "laboratory" effect, you can apply:

  • light blue;
  • light gray;
  • light beige;
  • mint;
  • lavender and other similar tones.

To accentuate, you can use yellow, blue, purple, green, scarlet and some other juicy colors. If furniture is used to visually delimit zones, it is recommended to use dissimilar colors (it can be halftones within the same color). Important: when selecting, it is required to form a unifying decorative motif so that different parts of the interior do not look contradictory. The law of contrast is often applied, when the finishes and furniture have sharply opposite colors. Tables and chairs are most often made from light wood, which is minimally processed, or from bright solid wood.

It is also possible to use dark furniture. In this case, it is combined with other paints, including ash pink colors. Black color fully meets the requirements of the Scandinavian style.

The use of dark gray headsets and individual items is also allowed. But many designers consider a combination of light furniture and dark floors to be a more correct solution.

Selection Tips

For the living room

It is not recommended to use a large amount of furniture in the interior of the guest room. At the same time, there should be:

  • sofa;
  • at least a couple of armchairs or poufs;
  • shelves for storing some things;
  • low glass table.

Important: it is undesirable to overload the space with small details. It is necessary to clearly understand the functional task of each purchased item. A common mistake when choosing living room furniture is not paying enough attention to its dimensions. Disproportionately large or very small specimens are equally bad. Additionally, you will have to consider:

  • the shape of the room;
  • the use of a wall or a rack (the second option is more modern);
  • addition of furniture products with decorative sculptures.

For the nursery

The furnishing of a children's room should be subject, first of all, to considerations of aesthetics and harmony. This will contribute to the creative development of toddlers. Contrary to popular belief, the balance of black and white tones in a nursery is quite acceptable. A very important point is the need to assess the environmental properties and the level of safety. If for other rooms there is a choice between chipboard and solid wood, then for the nursery the choice is unambiguous.

A deciduous massif turns out to be better than coniferous, due to the greater mechanical hardness. Be sure to take into account the age of the room. The colors are chosen taking into account the temperament and character. It is not recommended to get carried away with red tones - overloading them depresses the psyche and provokes aggressiveness. For teenagers, with rare exceptions, already fabulous motives in design are unacceptable.

For bathroom

In this case, of course, the level of resistance to moisture comes first. But it would be unforgivable to underestimate other points as well. When choosing a bedside table, you will have to take into account the exact size of the washbasin. As for fittings, chrome parts are definitely the best choice.They last longer in a humid environment and look spectacular.

Here are some more recommendations:

  • take into account your needs when assessing the number of shelves, boxes, and so on;
  • use corner options for small rooms;
  • save space by hanging headsets;
  • track the compatibility of furniture and plumbing.

For kitchen

Most often, multifunctional furniture of strict forms is chosen for the kitchen area. Inline instances are also often used. All products should look visually expensive due to materials and details. Imitation of brickwork is very attractive. An alternative solution is glass, wood paneling or mosaic decoration.

Resistance to moisture, steam and heat is a must. It even applies to furniture placed far from the stove. A maximum of 1/5 of the entire area is required for the headset. We must immediately assess whether the furniture will block the sockets, whether it will interfere with wires, pipes and other communications. In spacious kitchens, they put round dining tables, and if there is a lack of space, it is more expedient to use folding solutions.

For the hallway

When choosing Scandinavian-style furniture for a corridor with a large area, it is necessary to divide it into separate zones using color details. In the hallway, any piece of furniture is assessed not only by its appearance, but also by its suitability for storing various things. In fact, a must-have solution is the presence of clothes hangers. A very useful addition turns out to be a mirror, which allows you to control your appearance.

In the hallway of a country house, you can use plastic furniture. However, it is more correct to install solid wood products in an urban dwelling. With a small area, it is recommended to use cold light colors. In spacious hallways, there are significantly more choices.

The use of glossy and matte combinations, all kinds of textures helps to diversify the interior.

Stylish examples

  • And in this composition, the combination of a gray sofa with an oval table was successfully used. A nice addition is the low bookcase.
