Peculiarities

In order for this structure to serve as the main decoration of the living room, before installing it, you need to carefully consider the overall concept of the interior. Based on this, they select the appropriate material and colors. Most often, suspended ceilings consisting of several levels are installed in spacious halls. Typically, a living room is a room in which several functional areas are combined. In this case, such ceilings will help to delimit the space with various colored inserts or patterns. Wherein drywall construction should not reduce the amount of space: it is important to increase it. The main feature of the suspended ceilings in the hall is the simplicity of style and originality of design.

They should not stand out sharply against the general background of the room, but they must be combined with flooring, walls and furniture.

Views

Two-level ceilings are installed in various ways. Depending on the complexity of their execution, curvilinear and rectilinear suspended structures are distinguished. Often found in the interior canvases of irregular shape with backlighting. If the living room is large, chic three-level ceilings are installed in it.

Straightforward designs are the simplest. They are quick to assemble and require accurate level calculations. This option is suitable for lovers of straight lines. Most often, such a finish is used in houses with ceiling beams, which spoil the aesthetic appearance in the room.

If you put several sheets on one level of drywall, you get a three-level stretch ceiling, while the second step in the decor, which is located parallel to the walls, needs to be made a little higher, smoothly moving into the space of the entrance door and windows.

Curvilinear compositions are considered complex, but they are very popular in the design of living rooms. Today they can be made in various finishes. It all depends on the imagination and skill of the owners of the house. Patterns with curved lines look stylish, smoothly acquiring a rounded shape. As for the top film, glossy finishes and materials with a satin, suede surface are suitable for installing it.

Styles

The living room is a unique place in the house, so its ceilings can be decorated in different styles. The choice of one or another finish is determined by the personal preference of the homeowners. In modern design, the following directions are most often chosen for two-level ceilings:

  • classic;
  • rococo;
  • baroque;
  • East.

Modern living rooms are often decorated in an Art Nouveau style or combine several different styles. The classic version of the ceiling is characterized by a regular geometric shape and straight lines. For the design, two levels are mainly used, the colors of which are dominated by green and black, red and white, purple and orange.

If the baroque style is chosen for the tension structure, in this case, blue and gray canvases are used, compositions of white, beige or green shades also look good. Thanks to natural colors, the two-level ceiling in the living room will take on a natural look, natural wood furniture will help to complement it in the interior.

Curvilinear shapes in Rococo look unusual, while they must combine several shades.

You can create cone, wave, or circle shapes on the ceiling. To visually enlarge the room, it is recommended to use a glossy surface in the decoration. If you choose a design with Japanese motives for your design, shades of black and red should prevail in it. The tiers in this case are decorated with drawings with large flowers.

Backlight

Properly installed lighting is considered an integral part of stretch ceilings. It allows you to favorably emphasize the design, makes the hall spacious and light. Designers use various ideas to decorate the living room. For example, stylish chandeliers look beautiful in this room, but they must be supplemented with spotlights... So the lighting will be evenly distributed over the entire space of the room, creating unusual overflows in its individual areas.

More often for two-level plasterboard ceilings, the following types of lighting are used:

Central lighting

This is the classic option for suspended structures. Chandeliers can be attached using special hooks, installed on mounts. For tall living rooms, you need to purchase hanging products, if the height in the room is small, the best choice would be chandeliers on narrow platforms.

Spotlights

They can be easily integrated into the ceiling and help to create a different atmosphere in certain areas of the room. For example, a resting area can be illuminated with a medium level, and the area where the work area is located will be brighter.

LED strips

They are chosen when the ceiling consists of complex shapes and figures. The main advantages of these products are long service life and minimal energy consumption. The belts are flexible enough that they are easy to install even in hard-to-reach places.

In addition to the basic lighting elements for suspended ceilings, additional lighting items will be needed. For example, fiber-optic threads are indispensable for structures, they allow you to create original flickering effects on the canvas. An important device is considered and led strip controller, with the help of it you can control the color change in the lighting, fix a certain shade of the luminous flux, turn off or turn on the illuminating spectrum.

How to choose?

Two-level plasterboard ceilings are one of the modern finishes. Today, there are many design ideas for decorating a living room, thanks to which an ordinary room is transformed into a chic hall. In order for the room to become stylish and beautiful, a 2-level ceiling must be correctly selected for the overall interior. A huge role in the choice of canvases is played not only by the type of material, but also by the texture, depending on which ceilings are:

Matt

They are produced in light colors, most often white color predominates in compositions. Externally, the product resembles decorative plaster. Such canvases are well suited to the classic style.

Glossy

Characterized by a high ability to reflect light, they are the best option for a small living room. The surface of such ceilings visually expands the room, makes it more spacious.

Designers recommend choosing similar designs for an apartment in Khrushchev, where rooms suffer from a lack of lighting and seem gloomy.

Satin

The surface of the film ideally imitates the weaving of fabric. Such ceilings look exquisite and expensive, they gently disperse the lighting in the hall and create an atmosphere of comfort. It is better to install them in large rooms, the area of which is more than 20 square meters. m. It is possible to decorate the suspended structure with satin in a small hall, but in this case it is necessary to use simple ceiling models.

In order for a two-level composition to become a real decoration of the living room, it is important to decide on its color. For low rooms, you will need to install light-colored canvases. For tall rooms, dark tones are suitable, allowing you to proportionally divide the space. If the hall is located on the sunny side, it is best to use cold shades for decorating the ceilings, if the living room windows are shaded, the preference should be given to the warm colors of the palette.

Mounting

Duplex ceilings may seem difficult to install at first glance. If you stock up on the right tool, have patience and great creativity, everyone can cope with this task. The designs come in many varieties, but the finishing touch is given by the original design. All installation work must be carried out as follows:

  • Take height measurements. The ceiling, consisting of two steps, will slightly reduce the room (when installed, it “leaves” 5-10 cm in height). If the surface of the ceiling in the living room is flat, it is better to hang the structure directly on it, this way space is saved.
  • Purchase lamps. To avoid deformation of the canvases when heated, it is recommended to place the light sources in gypsum nozzles.
  • Prepare a primer for finishing drywall. It will further protect the ceiling from moisture.
  • Calculate the amount of material you need and stock up on the right tool.
  • Create a project for the future structure.

Many methods are used to attach a two-tier structure. The simplest and most popular of them involves first level installation. Then the second tier of the composition is suspended from it. The work execution technology looks like this:

  • Prepare the workplace. The ceiling is cleaned, all the furniture from the living room is taken out. The room should have an accessible passage, free space for cutting and collecting parts.
  • Markings are applied under the frame. Determine the angle with the smallest height in the room (it will serve as the starting point for drawing lines). On the walls where the profiles will be placed, even stripes are drawn, and on the ceiling itself for suspension, dot designations are put. During the marking, you need to use a water or laser level.
  • Establish a frame for the first level. UD-profiles are fixed, placing them around the entire perimeter of the room with a step of 600 mm. Then direct suspensions are fixed, CD-profiles are applied to them. The frame at the end is sheathed with plasterboard.
  • Set the second level. In order to assemble all the figures quickly and correctly, it is recommended that all work be performed according to the installation diagrams.
  • They fix decorative cloth and other trimmings.

Arches can be additionally made from drywall sheets. To do this, they are bent and attached to the CD profiles. All round surfaces of the structure must be veneered. As for the seams, they are sealed with a special tape, on which a thin layer of putty is applied. It is also necessary to cover the screws with it, since during the operation of the ceiling, rust may appear on the paint or wallpaper.

The two-level ceiling, which is planned to be painted in the future, must be carefully puttyed (this will help to avoid the appearance of ugly seams). Do not forget about priming the entire surface of the suspended structure.

Interior options

For the living room, a glossy stretch ceiling in beige shades will be a beautiful choice. In this case, you can establish a two-level composition, choose a multi-stage model for design. In the center of the frame, it is necessary to place a huge chandelier with glass balls; it is better to install LED lighting around the perimeter of the structure.

To visually divide the space into zones, color inserts must be included in the ceiling composition. For example, a combination of black and red is suitable for this.

For connoisseurs of the original style, a living room with a black ceiling will be an interesting choice. She will surprise the guests with an unexpected decision. You can dilute the atmosphere of the hall with notes of the East. The first level will be the basis of the composition; it should be decorated with canvases with three-dimensional drawings of sakura. Beautiful wooden chandeliers installed on the second level of the structure will help to complement such an interior.
