Today it is not difficult to find suitable furniture of various modifications for a student. Choosing a table for a school-age child is a very responsible and serious task. Instead of the classic rectangular options, many buyers are turning to corner designs, which have many distinctive characteristics.

Advantages and disadvantages

Corner furniture is very popular today. It has an attractive appearance. In addition, it is quite convenient to use it, which is especially important for a student who has to spend a lot of time at the table. Before going to a furniture store for such a product, you need to familiarize yourself with its pros and cons.

Such furniture has the following advantages:

  • corner tables have a large work surface, while the dimensions of the furniture themselves can be small or medium; for this reason, it is very convenient to work at such tables;
  • any computer equipment can be put on such a table, while the total area of the furniture will not be damaged;
  • although corner tables often look quite large, they save a lot of free space in the room, since they are placed in the corner, while the rest of the space remains untouched, where the young owner of the room can put whatever he wants;
  • there are many modifications of such tables - they can have a variety of functional additions such as superstructures, cabinets and shelves;
  • the presence of a corner table in the room creates the effect of a more spacious space;
  • the range of corner tables is represented by models made of different materials, you can choose the best option for every taste and budget;
  • depending on the size of a particular model, two children studying at school can use it at once;
  • such furniture is versatile and easily fits into interior ensembles made in different styles, from classic to modern;
  • it is permissible to equip corner tables with various superstructures, shelves, drawers and cabinets, access to which always remains free, so we can safely talk about the convenience of using such structures.

From the above qualities, we can conclude that a corner table is an excellent solution when arranging a room in which a student lives.

However, we must not forget that this furniture also has disadvantages, such as:

  • you can put corner furniture only in the corner of the room, it is not designed for other territories, otherwise the table can block the passage and noticeably "burden" the situation;
  • such furniture structures are far from being able to be placed near a window in a room in all cases, so they cannot be left without additional artificial lighting;
  • most modern corner products (with rare exceptions) are static and do not have transformable mechanisms, which is why they must be selected in accordance with the age and height of the student; in the course of his growing up, such a table cannot be increased in its dimensions;
  • many modern corner tables are made from such popular material as MDF; on such surfaces, you cannot have lunch or make short snacks, since this material is not designed for such use - it will get dirty very quickly, and then completely lose its former attractiveness;
  • if you are choosing a corner table designed for installing a computer, then it will most likely contain a lower compartment for the system unit; it should be borne in mind that in closed departments the equipment will not be ventilated, it will overheat, which will lead to malfunctions in its operation;
  • being at the corner table, the student will always be directed to the environment with his back; this nuance confuses many young users, since in such circumstances many people do not feel very comfortable;
  • as a rule, corner varieties have a higher cost than rectangular ones;
  • even if the corner table is small, it can still be difficult to move it to a new place without damaging the wall or floor finish.

Models

There are several types of corner tables that are usually bought to organize a workspace in a student's room.

  • Corner computer-type table. Such models are most in demand today, since computer equipment is present in every home. However, in most cases, such tables are designed only for working with a computer - it is not always convenient to do homework at them. If this model is equipped with additional shelves and pull-out surfaces, then the child will be able to study with it.
  • Desk. Such furniture of a corner structure will make it possible to use a free corner in the room. This option is quite roomy. It will be able to put a monitor, textbooks, notebooks, stationery and other items necessary for the student.
  • Transformer. Such options are less common than the above. As a rule, they can be adjusted in height, but it must be borne in mind that transformers are more expensive than standard options, especially if they are made of natural wood.
  • Loft bed. This modular furniture design also makes it possible to save available space in the student's room. In such products, the berth is always located on the upper tier, and the working table - on the lower one. Of course, a loft bed can have a sofa or play area at the bottom instead of a table. The choice of a suitable modification depends on the preferences of the buyer.
  • Folding / retractable. You can design these types of desktops yourself.
  • For two children. As mentioned earlier, some varieties are designed to be used by two children. In small rooms, they are most often placed along one of the free walls in the nursery.

Materials (edit)

Modern corner tables for schoolchildren are made from a variety of materials.

  • Natural wood. This material is of the highest quality, reliable, environmentally friendly, strong and durable. It makes excellent tables that do not contain hazardous substances. However, wooden options require regular treatment with antiseptics, otherwise they will simply begin to dry out or even rot. The cost and weight of such items can disappoint the buyer. They are expensive and weigh quite a lot, making them very difficult to move.
  • Chipboard is an inexpensive and simple material. Simple furniture of template design is made of it. However, for children of any age, you should not buy such products - they contain formaldehydes that are hazardous to health. Of course, you can find a table made of E-1 chipboard in the store (this material is safer), but when buying it, be sure to ask for a quality certificate, as they may try to deceive you by presenting the toxic material as environmentally friendly.
  • MDF. MDF furniture is not cheap, but it looks very interesting. Tables made from similar raw materials can be made in any way. Some of them successfully imitate wood, and there are no dangerous components in their composition. However, it should be taken into account that MDF will not last as long as natural wood. In addition, you cannot eat on such a table, since with such use it will quickly lose its attractiveness.
  • Glass structures look very stylish and modern. It is recommended to put them in rooms where teenagers live.Having such furniture, you should pay attention that it can be easily damaged, even if it is made of rather dense glass. In addition, it will have to be cleaned frequently - fingerprints easily remain on the glass surface.

Dimensions (edit)

When choosing the optimal table for a student, it is extremely important to consider the size of the furniture. It is these parameters that will directly affect the development of a growing organism. This includes the correct formation of posture, the distribution of loads on the neck, back and eyes. Mainly when buying a corner furniture structure, you need to rely on the correct posture of the student.

You can determine the required height parameter as follows:

  • the height level of the countertop should coincide with the solar plexus point of the young user, which is working behind the structure;
  • the gap between the table top and the child's knees should be approximately 10-15 cm;
  • the elbow of the student's lowered hand, which is at the table, should be located just below its plane (about 5 cm);
  • the ideal tabletop length is 1 m;
  • if the student, while at the table, moves his arms to him, his shoulders should remain in the correct position - and not higher or lower than the natural height;
  • absolutely all the necessary things should be located on the tabletop: books, notebooks, stationery, lighting; the best width of the workplace is from 80 to 100 cm, and if you plan to put computer equipment on the table, then the distance from the monitor to the eyes should reach 40 cm;
  • the legs of the young user should be free - the ideal size for this zone should be approximately 50x50 cm.

Selection Tips

Choosing a table for a student must be as careful as possible.

It is worth considering what criteria are the most important when choosing such furniture designs.

  • Material. It is advisable to purchase environmentally friendly options made of wood or MDF, despite their high price. Glass products are more suitable for a neat teenager. If a model is bought from laminated chipboard, then you need to look for an option from raw materials with the E-1 marking. Request a quality certificate when purchasing such modifications.
  • Equipment. Initially, decide in which configuration you want to purchase the table. There are a lot of different models on the furniture market today. For example, you can choose a simple and inexpensive table or an improved model with superstructures and transformable mechanisms. Having immediately decided on your desires, you can choose the right material very quickly.
  • Style and color. In this case, one should rely not only on the performance of the surrounding interior of the nursery, but also on the gender of the child. For example, for a girl, the option of a gentle pastel shade is more suitable, while a boy may also like a more serious dark table.
  • Workmanship. Inspect the table before purchasing. It should not be damaged - chips, scratches. All connections must be strong and of good quality. If the table shakes or makes squeaky sounds when moving, then it is better not to buy it - it is unlikely to serve for a long time.
  • Manufacturer. Refer to products from reputable companies. Of course, such options are not very cheap, but they are of good quality.

Accommodation options in the interior

A correctly selected corner table for a student must be placed in a suitable place, while adhering to simple rules.

  • Do not put such furniture directly in front of the window. The student's eyes will quickly get tired of the annoying sun rays. In addition, the child will always want to look at what is going on outside the window, so he will be distracted.
  • If the student is right-handed, then it is recommended to set the corner table in such a way that the light falls on it from the left side. If the child writes with his left hand, then vice versa.
  • You should not place the corner steel in the center of the room or near the wall, since such an arrangement does not quite suit this furniture. As a result, you risk getting a cluttered space that looks disharmonious. It is possible to put such a table near a free wall only if two children use it at once.
