Rosa de Saron is an amazingly beautiful plant. In the East, it has long been considered royal and divine because of its unusual appearance. In Palestine, the rose de Saron personifies a symbol of eternal love, and in America it is used to make medicinal tea and antiseptic medicines. It is not surprising that many growers would like to grow this rare flower in their area.

Description of the plant

The Saronian rose or rose de Saron is a perennial herb, one of the subspecies called gravilat. The culture belongs to the Pink family. There are a lot of gravilates in nature, and they are quite diverse in the form of their flowers. But the rose de Saron is undoubtedly the most unusual and unique plant of this subspecies. At its core, it refers to thorns that bloom from mid-spring to summer.

Seeds may not germinate for decades during drought, but once in favorable conditions, they quickly begin to grow.

In the process of flowering, the Saronian rose becomes covered with pinkish feathery flowers, which over time create a pink haze of unique beauty. Flowers look especially magical in motion from a light breeze, in addition, the color of flowers can be three-colored: pink, yellowish-red or purple. It is not surprising that the local population calls this flower prairie smoke, the same name is also given to the de Saron rose variety for cultivation.

Where does it grow?

The birthplace of this unique plant is considered to be the Saron Valley (Sharon), which is located in central Israel. Today, it is often found in deserts in Southeast Europe and Southwest Asia, as well as in North America. In the wild, rose de Saron grows, as a rule, in dense, wide groups of about 30 cm in height, mainly in humid places and on stony placers.

How to grow?

Rosa de Saron, when grown on a garden plot, can become the real pride of a florist, as it belongs to the most spectacular ornamental crops. In addition, this unique flower that lives in deserts is very unpretentious: it tolerates drought well, can grow on any type of soil, and is winter-hardy enough. In warm climates, the Saronian rose often blooms again in the fall. The best place to place it would be a sunny or lightly shaded area.

Seeds for seedlings in seedling boxes are sown in mid-March or early April, and young plants are planted in a permanent place in late May or early June, when the frost ends.

It is recommended to follow the 40x40 cm planting pattern. When planting seeds in a seedless way, immediately into the ground, you must also wait until the end of the spring frosts. Rosa de Saron tolerates winter frosts well, so you can plant seeds before winter in autumn, preferably in October. Gravilat looks great when planted in alpine hills, it is decorative not only in the spring-summer period during flowering, but also in autumn, when the leaves acquire a bright red hue.
