Ornamental bamboo is a picky plant that can be grown in a regular container of water. Such a flower will look great in any of the rooms of an apartment or house.

What should be the water?

Containers for growing bamboo must be filled with soft water. It can be filtered or distilled, the water temperature is not too low. Activated carbon can also be added to the container. It inhibits the growth of bacteria.

The water in the container must be renewed every 10-14 days. If the liquid smells unpleasant or changes color, you can change it more often. Another reason to renew the water in the tank is the wilting of the bamboo foliage.

Growing conditions

To grow a beautiful home bamboo, the plant needs to be provided with the right conditions for development.

  • The flower should be in a well-ventilated and well-lit area. But direct sunlight should not fall on it, because bamboo does not tolerate ultraviolet radiation well.
  • It is recommended to shade flowers standing on the windowsill with a curtain. In cold regions, on the contrary, they are illuminated with lamps. If the plant lacks light, its trunk will begin to turn yellow, and the foliage will fall off. In this case, the growth of bamboo will slow down significantly.

It is very important to avoid hypothermia of the plant.

  • In the cold season, the flower must be moved away from drafts. It is impossible for the plant to be near radiators or any other heating devices. It will also negatively affect its development.
  • An indoor flower needs to be watered regularly. But you cannot spray its foliage. This can lead to decay of the stem and foliage. If the air in the room is too dry, place a container with settled water next to the bamboo.

Fertilizers

To increase the decorative effect, bamboo plants are fed with mineral fertilizers on a regular basis. Top dressing is applied to the soil in liquid form when watering. On average, plants are fed once every 1-2 months.

At the same time, the plants brought from the store should not be fed for the first time. They need to be left alone for six months. Otherwise, bamboo will suffer from an overabundance of nutrients.

Pruning

If the plant has grown too much, the grower should cut it off. It is necessary to carry out trimming with special scissors. Slices are always done above the nodes. This is the only way to preserve the attractiveness of an indoor flower. Places of cuts are lubricated with wax or sprinkled with a thin layer of ash.

Pruning is recommended annually. In this case, the plant will always look neat.

To make the plant look more beautiful and unusual, its stems can be woven together. They do this while they are still young and flexible. The edges of the volumetric stem are fixed with twine. The mount can be removed after a few months. The flower will look beautiful without it.

Reproduction

The side shoots remaining after pruning can be used for flower propagation. The main thing is to choose healthy green cuttings. The shoots are pre-rooted in a small test tube. To speed up the process of root formation, small incisions should be made at the bottom of each cutting.

Flowers are usually transplanted into a low transparent container. It can be a glass or a vase. Before use, the container must be boiled in water. If a florist wants to place decorative stones or shells in a vase, they also need to be pre-processed. Young cuttings are as easy to care for as mature plants.

Possible problems

When growing bamboo in water, the grower can face some problems.

  1. The appearance of dark spots. They can be found on both stems and foliage. Such spots are a sign of infection with a fungal disease. You can save a flower using any proven fungicide. You need to process the flower in a ventilated area.
  2. Slow growth. If the bamboo grows slowly with good care, it means it lacks nutrients. You can correct the situation by feeding the plant.
  3. Darkening of foliage. If the foliage darkens and rots slowly, then the bamboo is kept in a room that is too cold. In order for the plant to move away from stress, it must be moved to a warm place. It will be able to recover in a couple of days.
  4. Drying bamboo. When the room is too hot, the plant dries out. This can also happen if the bamboo is near the battery. Noticing drying out or yellowing foliage, the container needs to be moved, and the water in it needs to be changed.

Knowing the basic rules for growing exotic plants, it is quite possible to equip a small tropical garden at home.
