Today the balcony has ceased to be a warehouse of unnecessary things. At the peak of popularity - to turn it into a recreation area. Someone insulates the balcony and connects it to the room, someone makes repairs there and puts upholstered furniture, and someone simply renews the ceilings and walls.

Be that as it may, but the curtains on the balcony have now become not just an object of decor, but also an accessory that performs a certain necessary functionality. And one of the most popular types of them are roller blinds for the balcony.

Types

Balcony curtains play an important practical role - they protect the room from bright sunlight and do not allow outsiders to see what is happening in your home. But their decorative function is also great - they create a cozy atmosphere in the room.

Roller blinds (roller shutters) have a number of advantages over conventional ones. One of the most important: they do not visually reduce the size of the room. With them, the room or balcony looks more free.

These high-quality curtains are easy to clean, easy to remove, wash or clean, and don't have to be ironed for a long time.

It doesn't matter what your window frame is made of - wood or plastic, roller blinds can be attached to any material and will hold up very well.

Even the most fastidious buyers can pick them up, since there are a large number of different types of such products:

  • The simplest roller blinds are fabrics impregnated with a special compound that repels dirt and moisture. The canvas is wound by means of a manual or mechanical drive on a special shaft. The width of the canvas can be any and in simple structures it usually hangs freely along the glass. There is a slight weighting at the end of the web.
  • There are also more complex "cassette" designs. They have the sides of the canvas tucked into special strips, which ensures a tighter fit to the glass.
  • In some versions of the roller shutter, the upper roller is covered with a special structure, which creates a single concept with the entire window frame.
  • Gaining popularity "day-night" curtains whose fabric is alternately alternating strips of dense and translucent material. By turning the strips, you can vary the light transmission capacity of such roller shutters.
  • Curtains and material differ. There are roller shutters made of ordinary and dense fabrics that do not transmit light. There are curtains made of bamboo. Bamboo roller shutters look the most noble and are considered one of the most environmentally friendly.
  • The roller shutter material may also vary. There are options that do not let light through at all and let it through only a little. There are also more transparent and opaque options. This is especially important for those who live on the lower floors.

In addition, roller shutters differ in their design. There are both simpler monochromatic and bright large or small prints. Often, in order to diversify your interior, curtains of different colors are purchased and combined on one balcony.

Another advantage of roller blinds is that they do not accumulate dust in themselves. Regular curtains collect on themselves all the street dust that we then breathe. And it is a good environment for many pathogenic bacteria and contributes not only to the spread of various viruses, but also to the development of chronic diseases.

Which is better - blinds or roller blinds?

In terms of their functionality, roller blinds and blinds are very similar. But roller shutters are usually made of a single sheet. In this case, the blinds are assembled from small longitudinal or transverse stripes. In this case, the material of the blinds can also be different. There are both lightweight metal, plastic and fabric blinds.

Blinds are commonly used in office spaces. Therefore, using them in an apartment gives the interior a rather austere look. At the same time, roller blinds, on the contrary, make the room more comfortable.

Fabric blinds most often have vertical stripes. And their disadvantage is that the belts are not fixed from below, which means that they can transmit light, for example, when the wind blows.

Both blinds and roller blinds are distinguished by their democratic price. Of course, depending on the materials, this price may vary. But on average, given the convenience of roller options, it is lower than for conventional fabric curtains.

Design examples

There are many design variations. But do not forget that when choosing, you need to focus on the room in which the roller blinds are located. If you choose them correctly, you can change the visual perception of a balcony or room.

Curtains with a large pattern will visually increase the space and are suitable for small balconies.

Models made of plain fabric will be universal. You can match them with other accessories in order to make the design seem as complete as possible.

If your balcony is on the south side, then it is recommended to choose roller shutters in cold shades. Conversely, for the side with less sun, it is better to pick warmer colors. Of course, it should be borne in mind that on the south side, the roller blinds should be denser and should not fade in the sun.

Well, those who cannot imagine a balcony or a room without light tulle or curtains can combine them with roller shutters. For example, the fabric of a roller blind can be dense, while a light flying tulle can be hung over it. Or vice versa, add blackout curtains to the thin roller shutter fabric.
